San-Franciscan designer Rene Huber created Goldenbleu driven by a desire to create something more exciting and original than mass-produced designer handbags. He’s done it again with the Andie, a wallet which certainly doesn’t blend into the background.

Swatches of glossy patent leather and soft muted suede create an eye-catching design. The diagonal stripes are overlaid in a striking geometric pattern. Attention seekers will love the bold red, gold, and black purse, but I prefer the subtler charms of this navy, plum, and silver variety.

The looped zipper pull provides easy access to the clever interior. Even the most scatterbrained fashion lover will have no problems staying organized with the zippered pocket and myriad of divided compartments.

At $185 retail, the Andie might be a little more than most of us want to spend on a wallet. But if you’re looking for a statement piece, this Goldenbleu could be worth a splurge.

Music superstar Pharrell Williams is the new owner, ambassador, and spokesman for Bionic Yarn, a textile company which creates eco-friendly fabrics from used plastic bottles.

Currently Bionic Yarn fabrics are used to create handbags, backpacks, workwear, denim, and home furnishings. The fledgling firm also has partnerships with Cole Haan, Prana, and Pharrell’s own Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream.

Pharrell has big ideas for the company, hoping to establish it as a major player in the textiles industry.

“Our goal is to be the go-to fabric supplier,” he said. “We want to provide quality fabrics that happen to also be sustainable. We want to do everything from high-end luggage, to high-end denim, to university caps and gowns to Parks Department uniforms. It’s a plus that the fabric brings environmentalism to a whole new level.”

I hope Pharrell’s celebrity profile encourages more designers to use his fabrics. I know we all want to buy greener handbags that don’t skimp on style or quality!

Sofia Coppola has debuted her first accessories line for Louis Vuitton. The Hollywood directory unveiled her collection of handbags and shoes in Tokyo last week.

“To start with I wanted to make a bag for myself and then we talked about making a little capsule collection,” she told WWD.

“My friends and I are always searching for the perfect day bag. It fits all your things but isn’t too big and isn’t too heavy.“

This picture provides a sneak peak of the collaboration, which includes an assortment of clutches, some duffle bags, and retro wedge sandals. The SC bag is the centerpiece of the range. It’s available in four versions to suit a myriad of tastes.

Sofia has been hard at work on the line for the last year, and it looks like her efforts have paid off. I currently have my eye on the textured navy blue clutch, but I can’t wait to see more of the collection!

Few things say “refined” better than Burberry. It’s one of those well-established, respected companies that found their fashion niche and stuck with it. Its classic styles last for decades in a wardrobe, which is fortunate since the products make a significant dent in a budget.

If you thought Burberry handbags only come in the famous tan and black checkered pattern, you are missing out on some great purses. Yes, the nova check bags are very chic, but the brown Lowry Metal Stitch is one of my favorites. The brass metal-stitched seams running down the bag are a unique touch to an otherwise simple shape. Without the stitching, the Lowry is still a nice looking tote. It comes in a variety of textures and colors. However, for me, the stitching adds something special to this one.

Another detail to notice on this Burberry handbag is the inverted pleat at the top. Near the bottom, you’ll find the signature prorsum knight emblem that is just big enough to catch the eye but isn’t overwhelming. The Lowry is also lined in a twill jacquard woven with the same emblem. For convenience, this bag has double handles plus a detachable, adjustable crossbody strap.

No one can say that the Lowry isn’t refined and elegant. You could say it’s a bit pricey at $3195. However, if you can afford it, this Burberry just might be a bag that you could pass down to another stylish generation.

Roger Vivier, inventor of the stiletto heel, has created some of the most amazing, and fashion-historically important, shoes of the twentieth century. Sadly, the man himself passed away in 1998, but his name and inventive spirit live on in the House of Vivier, which, thankfully, expanded its designs to include handbags. Both classic and cutting edge, Bruno Frisoni, who now heads the House of Roger Vivier, is known internationally as a couturier of amazing accessories.

The Mikado, which translates as “heavenly sovereign” from Japanese, is indeed heavenly. And its other-worldy elegance has caught the eye of numerous celebrities, including Katie Holmes, who has been spotted sporting the bag no less than two dozen times in the few months since its debut as part of the Fall 2008 line.

Just looking at the bag, the appeal of the Mikado is no mystery. The gorgeous black python leather adds depth to the flat envelope shape of the bag, and the center-inset seam details set off the texture of the snakeskin beautifully.

I think the pairing of the black python with the goldtone chain and python strap is particularly stunning, and the gold side-frame detail adds an extra little glimmer of glamour. The top flap closure also makes the Mikado easy to get in and out of.

It’s available in a large version for around $2000, which is the one that Katie carries, and a smaller version for about $1300. But whether you go big or small with the Mikado, its sure to attract attention with its mix of exotic snakeskin and decadent details.
