Foley + Corinna, while still relatively new on the designer circuit (circa 1999), are already renowned for creating high-fashion, high-quality designs at reasonable prices. The affordability of the line, however, has not tarnished their good name in the eyes of connoisseurs of fine handbags.

The Jet Setter, for example, has been featured on the arms of Gossip Girls more than once. Preppy Blair Waldorf uses her red and cream version as a schoolbag, and when fabulous MisShape Lydia Hearst made her cameo on the Gossip Girl season one finale, she did it with her F+C Jet Setter in hand.

It’s no wonder that Manhattan socialites can’t keep their paws off this bag. The glazed leather is a fantastic cross between the usual leather and patent leather, with a subtle sheen and smoothness. The front leather strap and buckle detail breaks up the size of the bag, and adds an edgy, urban appeal. The boxy bottom and structured strap balance out the bag’s general slouchiness, and add sturdiness to the design.

The only drawbacks of the Jet Setter are paradoxically also selling points. The extreme slouch between top and bottom means that the bag will not be able to stand up on its own, lovely to look at, but unfortunate when there is no place to hang a large handbag. And, the close-to-the body armhole that makes the Jet Setter comfortable to carry also makes it hard to get into without taking it off your shoulder. These could be deal-breakers for more expensive or less versatile handbags, but at under $500 retail, the high-class Jet Setter is relatively easy to get invested in.

The tote features three exterior pockets, which keep your keys, PDA, and passport accessible, organized and compartmentalized. The 8″ strap drop and thick leather handle make the bag comfy to carry over-the-shoulder or in the hand. The roomy 15″ x 15″ x 5″ size makes it a great traveling companion, either as an airline carry-on, or just as a bag that can take you from subway to taxi in style.

Chloe is arguably one of the most popular handbag designers among celebrities. You can also opt for the simpler, stud-free version of this bag if this one doesn’t fit your style.

Front tab pockets add to the casual feel. You can carry this Chloe bag on your shoulder for convenience or use the metal handles. Though it retails for $2125, the Saskia just might be one of the designer bags well worth the price tag. Don’t feel like you’re just following the crowd if you love this bag. The Saskia is fabulous even without the popular name brand.

The thought of pairing it with a simple gray sheath and heels makes me smile. However, it would look fabulous when worn with a sweater vest or cropped leather jacket. Let your imagination run wild!

This Miu Miu isn’t huge, but it does have a reasonable amount of storage. The satin lined interior has a zippered pocket. A leather hang tag bears the brand’s name. You can’t expect to wear it with every outfit in your closet, but it would make a classy, somewhat timeless addition to almost any wardrobe.

“Each person who crochets a designer bag is essentially making an ‘original’ bag – using their own expertise, decision-making, and tenacity, they are interpreting and creating a new, unique item,” she explained.

And the savings on Christian Dior are even better. A few days ago the French designer slashed the price of its ladies’ and mens’ bags, small leather goods, and shoes by eight percent.

It sounds like it might be time to book that flight to Tokyo!
