Celebrities are starting to take notice of Matt & Nat bags. The brand, which follows an all-vegan materials policy, has captured Ellen DeGeneres as a fan. You don’t have to be a PETA supporter to appreciate the funky style of Matt & Nat purses. Lucky for us, it seems that being animal conscious is also economical to bag-making. I haven’t seen a Matt & Nat bag of any size beyond the $400 mark.

Their signature material is the Japanese Paper. The crinkled vegan leather looks fantastic on the Fifty-Five bag. I love the black option with brass and copper hardware. Similar to many Matt & Nat styles, the subtle details on the Fifty-Five make the material the showcase of the handbag.

There is a definite rocker vibe to this purse without being too obvious. Small accessories like the side panels attached with copper studs and the double zippered pockets on the front just add a touch of edge but don’t overwhelm the bag. The Matt & Nat logo is hardly even noticeable on a small copper bar.

There are two short handles for carrying the Fifty-Five in your hands, but the detachable shoulder strap is much more convenient for a bag of this size. This roomy bag is also available in coffee brown, grey, or a bright magenta. Like their other bags, the Fifty-Five is relatively affordable at $250.

This is definitely a bag with a lot of dimensions.

The shape of the bag is itself a geometric interpretation of lips, and the soft horizontal pleating sets the shape off gorgeously. I love the way the central strap detail contrasts with the soft body of the bag, giving it a structured, futuristic look.

While the soft and sleek look of this bag embodies everything I love about contemporary design, it is not a bag for the faint of heart. It would make a great day bag for a girl whose style is all about attitude, and also would be an amazing accessory for a night out in the city.

The rounded rectangular shape is simple, yet sophisticated. It might appear bland at first glance, but take a closer look. The single and double quilting create an almost argyle effect which is quite striking.

Like Tory Burch, Botkier was created to give women a luxury look for a price that won’t make you faint. While the handbags are timeless, Botkier always add a little edginess in the details that make the style unique and recognizable to the brand.

The Jackie satchel reminds me of the Morgan hobo minus the fringe. The two bags share the same inverted pleat detail on the front along with a zippered top flap closure. The major similarities end there, however. Whereas the Morgan has a bohemian flair, the Jackie handbag takes on a bit more rock and roll.

The python texture of the leather material is definitely the standout of the pewter color option. Though the Jackie also comes in black, chocolate brown, yellow, and cream, it is the metallic silver choice that has the most edge. Snakeskin is a popular trend right now, and it looks great on this satchel. I actually think the bag looks fabulous in any of the colors, but the pewter snake just has something extra that appeals to me.

Vertical zippers on either side of the Jackie purse add to the rocker chic style. The fun, decorative tassel is a nice touch, although it is removable if you find it bothersome. Inside you’ll find a Botkier logo lining and zippered pocket. This roomy satchel retails for $650. That price might not be attainable to as many women as Botkier intended, but it’s not a bad deal for a large designer handbag full of quality details.

Phillip Lim shows his versatility as a designer with this contemporary take on a classic. The design of the 3.1 Doctor’s Bag combines his minimalist approach with urban details, making it a decidedly downtown interpretation of an uptown style.

The vintage doctor’s shape is accented with the modern brushed steel frame top. I particularly like the triangular steel detailing around the edges of the frame, and the way the heavy metal structure tops off the supple black leather. Multiple brass chains hang loose from a tab, giving the bag its rock-n-roll charm. The chains can also be pulled up and used as a shoulder strap.

The thick leather handle is held to the bag with large silver O-rings, which I find a little distracting to the bag’s look. The oversized rings make the handle seem a little unnaturally placed, and their bigness is out of proportion with the comparatively more streamlined and subtle details.

The generously-sized main compartment is accented with leather side straps with silver buckles, which also distract slightly from the classic shape of the bag. Overall, the bag seems slightly overworked, but the quality of Phillip Lim’s design still shines through. I can see it working for a woman with a more conservative wardrobe who is looking to add a little punch to her look. The 3.1 Doctor’s Bag would give attitude to a classic black suit, and it would also provide a lovely contrast to a soft cocktail dress for evening.

Everything Kate Moss touches turns to gold, which is why Topshop top dog Sir Phillip Green has renewed her contract for another three years.

“I believe this has been a great partnership for both Topshop and Kate. Having had two years experience, I am confident that Kate’s collection now has the potential to become a significant global brand within Topshop,” he said.

Kate’s previous collections for the British retailer have all sold out, and there’s more where that came from. Apparently the waifish model is at work on a range of accessories, and some sexy lingerie. I’m already salivating at the thought of carrying a new Kate Moss handbag!

“The last two years have been an exciting experience,” Kate Moss said. “Topshop has given me the perfect platform to develop my own collection, which is something that I have wanted to do for a long time. I am really looking forward to working with the Topshop team on our new collections and thank everybody who already owns a piece of Kate Moss for Topshop!“

The new deal is thought to be worth £4 million a year. It’s a whole lot of cash in anyone’s language, but working with Kate has proved to be an excellent investment for Topshop. She’s already designed eight bestselling collections for the brand. They’ve been snapped up by fashionistas in 22 countries around the world including Australia and the United States.

Kate Moss’ Topshop spring ’09 line will be available this coming March.

Just like the New York borough from which is takes its name, the Brooklyn Clutch from Santi is bold, brassy, and bubbling with personality.

Then when the clutch needs its beauty sleep, there’s a handy dust bag to protect it until it’s ready to party again!
