During awards season, all I can think about is parties and formal wear. Not that I can afford the red carpet styles we saw last night, but a girl can always dream, wait for sales, and shop wisely. This clutch by Chloe’s more reasonably-priced sister line, See By Chloe, is exactly what I have in mind: it’s fabulous, affordable, and will look great next season, too.

I can’t decide whether this clutch looks more retro or futuristic, so let’s settle for retro-futuristic. It has a sort of Barbarella-esque charm, with the bright whitish silver shiny calfskin and ingenious shape. The silver piping around the edges accentuates the shape and brings out the sparkle in the leather.

At 10″ x 6″ x 2″, it isn’t the biggest clutch I’ve seen all year, but its size is generous enough to hold anything you might need on a night out. The press-stud flap fastenings on each side balance out the design of the bag and make it easy to get into on one side or both. The interior features an internal coin purse and handheld mirror.

Although its sleek modern design won’t suit more traditional types, for girls like me, at $345, the Let’s Party Clutch is an investment worth celebrating for seasons to come.

I’ve got to admire Karl Lagerfield. The world’s economy is crumbling, yet the Chanel designer has released the ultimate fun but frivolous vehicle, the Chanel Segway.

This new black leather personal transporter is a standard issue Segway tricked up with plenty of Chanel glamour. The CC logo proudly adorns the front, wheel, and handlebar. But the real centerpiece is that quilted 2.55 handbag hanging from the front. It won’t provide a lot of storage, but it will carry your wallet and cell phone while you’re scooting around!

These fun vehicles are almost a cross between a motorbike and an old-fashion scooter. Navigating them is easy – you just lean in the direction you want to go. It won’t keep pace on the freeway, but with a top speed of nearly 20 kph it’s entirely appropriate for taking on the urban jungle.

There’s no word yet on price, but you can bet this kind of ride won’t come cheap. Expect to see Paris Hilton zooming about on one of these beauties soon.

I’m usually on the edge of my seat when Project Runway episodes air. Who doesn’t enjoy the nonsensical drama, the behind-the-scenes look at the fashion design world, and the wise musings of guru Tim Gunn?

When New York Fashion Week rolls around, rumors and speculations run rampant about which favorites made it to the final three. An air of mystery and excitement usually surrounds the big event. Not so for this year’s runway show.

Because of nasty lawsuits involving a battle between Lifetime and Bravo, the channel that usually airs the reality show, fans of the show haven’t even seen the first episode. The anticlimactic end to the still un-aired season of Project Runway continued filming, however, without anyone knowing the names of the designers. Even host Heidi Klum acknowledged the awkwardness of the situation.

“I’m a little bit sad for our designers today because nobody knows them,” said Heidi Klum. As a consolation prize, she offered, “Please give them all a big round of applause!“

Hopefully the legal entanglements will wrap up soon so fans can enjoy the new season, which will end with the recently taped fashion week show. Past winners like Christian Siriano have gone on to success (I can’t wait for his new Payless handbags and shoes), so I hope that this unusual situation won’t detract from the new season’s reigning designer.

Every so often I come across a Juicy Couture handbag that surprises me. Though the brand generally calls to mind bright colors, lots of details, and printed crowns, they do have some grown-up styles that don’t get nearly enough credit.

I’m sure that bags like the Freestyle aren’t Juicy’s most widely popular items like the Daydreamer and the Baby Fluffy, but this slouchy handbag has merits of its own that make it desirable for shoppers … not the least of which that it isn’t covered in shiny metallic printed logos.

Though many recent fashion shows have displayed obvious cutbacks because of a suffering economy, Zac Posen’s big dreams of multiple grand pianos for his show was kept alive due to a helping hand from Steinway.

After hearing of the designer’s dilemma of only being able to afford one piano for the runway when he envisioned a parade of them down the catwalk, Steinway donated not one but five grand pianos for the big New York event.

The generous (and apparently publicity conscious) company even added in the musical talent. Classical chart-topping group 5 Browns tickled the ivories for an enraptured audience as the models glided past them in fashion forward get-ups.

Still, on the creative end of things, one can only wonder what could come of Mr. Posen’s new regard for the piano maker. “To me, Steinway is the last luxury company in America,” Mr. Posen said, turning to accept more kisses.

I’m glad that all creativity hasn’t been squashed because of budget woes. However, maybe only someone like the crowd-gathering, well-respected Zac Posen can pull in support such as this.

My first thought when seeing the Roxy Oh Yeah tote was that it looks similar to Roxy’s Sabrosa bag. The quilted effect on the two are indeed similar, but the Oh Yeah handbag has a much more casual vibe than the Sabrosa making it more suitable for shopping trips, informal lunches, and hanging out at the beach.

This tote is all one color with tone on tone stitching. The only things not blue on this version are the silver-toned handle rings and studs. Other than that, the visual interest is created by the stitched details that take the bag from ordinary to attractive. The circles and Roxy logos are a subtle addition to the style. 

I wouldn’t say this is a bag for all occasions, though. The material is synthetic, which makes it extremely affordable but not particularly timeless or elegant. Manmade materials like this are often durable, though, which makes the $42 price tag of the Oh Yeah bag well worth your money since you’ll probably get some good wear out of it.

The regatta blue is pretty but not your only option. This Roxy tote also comes in white, yellow, and magenta tones for some variety. The creamy white color is a great choice for accessorizing spring and summer outfits and gives the handbag a slightly dressier look.
