Christian Louboutin has a knack for creating ultra glamorous, and ultra girly accessories. In lesser hands this clutch purse could have looked childish and cheap. But instead this bow clutch has just enough girly charm to be fabulous. No wonder current It girl Kim Kardashian adores hers!

Kim’s clutch is a neutral nude shade which is significantly tamer than the party girl herself. I’d have thought this wild blue leopard print purse would have been more her speed. It’s also available in black, white, fuschia, red, candy apple green, and so many other shades that there’s bound to be one to suit your favorite party dress.

The size is perfect for tucking underneath your arm or carrying in your hand, but its streamlined shape may force you to leave the luxuries at home. I’m so used to clutches with bare interiors, so the zippered pouch is a welcome change. It’s ideal for storing loose change, and that hot phone number you don’t want to lose!

At $910 retail, it’s a lot more than I’d want to pay for an evening accessory. That doesn’t stop me lusting after it though!

Siedah Garrett sang “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” with Michael Jackson in the late 1980s, won a Grammy Award, and then seemed to disappear from the public eye. Well, not quite. The singer/songwriter has actually found a new career as a handbag designer.

Siedah started her bag business when she found herself with one colorful outfit and no purse to match. Rather than scouring the stores she got to work with a crochet hook and yarn. Her homemade handbag received so many compliments that Siedah decided to make more.

And so Siedah Garrett Designs was born. Her collection includes those original hand-crocheted purses alongside lush exotic leather accessories. With her handcrafted designs and luxury leathers, these handbags don’t come cheaply. Wallets start from $250 while bags retail from $499.

But Siedah fans will be pleased to know she hasn’t turned her back on music altogether. When she’s not perfecting her purses, Siedah is penning tunes for the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Kahn, and Aretha Franklin, and performing in the neo-funk outfit Brand New Heavies.

I personally dread the moment that all my knee high boots have to go back in the closet, but putting away winter clothes is a pleasure if we have a spring season full of looks like this one to takes us through summer. Chloe’s modern take on the classic Bay bag is brightly colored, small, and delightful.

I am not typically a fan of yellow, but the color of this bag is more of a yellowed tan, and its richness sets off the semi-gloss of the leather beautifully. I have always been partial to Bay bags, though, and the shape of this one is curvy and the size utilitarian. The long, detachable shoulder strap can be worn across the body or over the shoulder, giving you several looks in one.

At 9″ x 7″ x 3″, the Chloe Bay Patent Bag is small, but it packs an organizational wallop. The long zipper top opens onto an interior zipper pocket, and the front boasts another handy zipper pocket with two fabulously oversized pull tabs. The small logo plate on the front of the purse adds to the fun, 70’s look of the bag without being distracting or pretentious.

Overall, this is the kind of bag that makes me wish for spring, although I wish it came at a lower premium. In this economy, $1,095 is a bit steep for a small bag that will work on lighter days but won’t become your daily carryall.

Runway models are usually just the vehicle for designers to best display their creative product. Rarely do these stylish walking mannequins produce the inspiration for the designer…except in one of the recent shows at New York Fashion Week.

Phillip Lim, one our favorite bag designers, met his model Tao Okamoto only two weeks ago but loved her hairstyle so much that he incorporated it into his runway show.

The ultra-short mushroom cut, complete with eyebrow-grazing bangs, graced the head of every female runway model in the 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2009 show. Of course, Okamoto was the only model not wearing a wig. The modest muse was surprised by his decision.

“I’m so excited because I did his fall look book and he said, ‘Oh, you’re so beautiful,’ and I was like, ‘Ooooh! Thank you!’ Then he said, ‘It’d be so great if all the girls at the show had your hairstyle.’ I thought he was joking, but look at this!” she said.

Okamoto’s retro bob was cut in Tokyo after her desire to stand out. I’m not sure if this short hairstyle will catch on outside of the high fashion world, but we’ll just have to wait and see if Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes go for it before deciding.

Navy blue is one neutral that gets passed over far too often, in my opinion. Black and brown get much more credit than this third go-with-anything color. Personally, I think it’s the now debunked rule of not pairing blue and black together has left the dark ocean tones trailing behind.

When it comes to navy, though, deep versions of the color are generally the chic-est choice, as seen on this Treesje Vienna handbag. It’s almost dark enough to pass for black but has no need to pretend. The leather has a bit of a polished sheen to it, although a patent version is available as well if you prefer to go all the way with shine.

It is categorized as a hobo but really functions more like a slim tote. Though the exterior details are pretty, I’m not sure if this handbag would be entirely practical for everyday if you plan on setting it down often. The bottom has no flat panel to support the bag when standing upright. However, if you have a place to set it or just want to carry it around town, the Vienna is a stylish option for a large purse.

The front has a panel of stitched pleats that add a little uptown style to the handbag. However, this contrasts the slightly rock and roll vibe of the two vertical exterior zippered pockets. Gold-toned hardware brings everything together, though, and stands out beautifully on the dark color.

I am not a fan of chain-strap purses, and yet, due to a little bit of simple innovation, I completely adore the Chloé Sally Shoulder Bag.

The main reason why I’ve been unsure about chain-strap bags before is because those darn straps always dig into my shoulders and end up leaving very ugly marks behind. Who needs that, right?

Well, the folks at Chloé smartly dealt with this potential hazard by placing a protective shoulder pad on the straps. Hurray! Something so simple and obvious can make all the difference.

Now we can get beyond the dangerous straps and focus on the sophisticated square silhouette, metallic gold-tone trim, and large fold-over flap which meld together and create one chic handbag.

You can choose from the grey grained leather version pictured as well as a lovely natural (cream) python/canvas version or a forest green rendition (pre-order only).

Marni is known for creating looks with lots of current appeal, but their strikingly different details and couture craftsmanship keep them from backsliding into just another trendy, fly-by-night fashion house. The Shiny Shoulder bag stays true to this ideal.

The chain strap is a gentle nod to the past (remember the ubiquitous Chanel chain strap purses of the early 90’s), but since the bag looks so new and modern, it really refreshes the look of the chain for a new generation. The only thing I don’t like about the strap is the brown leather handle. The contrasting leather color choice just looks a little out of place, especially when the bag itself is so elegant, and the grey so subtle and delicate.

There is something very feminine about the color and shape of this bag. It is such a soft grey that it could go with anything, and the design is such that if you tuck in the straps, it could also make a nice oversized clutch. The detailed pleating of the bag adds volume and texture. The best part of the look of this bag is the way the small box pleating contrasts with the softer, fuller gathering on the bottom.

Even the clasp of this bag is well thought out. The shiny silver turnlock fastens the flapover top, which opens onto a fully lined inside with a zippered pocket. The fabulous details are really what brings this Marni bag together, all except for that dull brown handle, which I might be willing to accept if the purse were a little less expensive. But at $1,125, I want all the details to be perfect.

Any shopping trip can be a glamorous occasion when you’re carrying the Andelys Tote from Celine.

Black patent leather is effortlessly chic, and it’s used to excellent effect here. The features are kept simple, with just a splash of polished silver hardware to amp up the style. Matching black patent corner details offer added strength without disturbing the Andelys’ minimalistic look.

The front comes with signature clip on a silver chain. I like the idea of attaching your keys and tucking them into the front pocket, but I’m not convinced by the look. I’d unclip it and stash my keys inside the inner zip pocket, leaving the exterior simple and free from added flash.

The Andelys also comes with a large slip pocket and a cell phone pouch. There’s plenty of room inside already, but if you need more just unsnap the side gussets. They’re designed to expand the purse for women who want to carry a few more luxuries.

Two long leather handles for over-the-shoulder carrying complete this functional design. At $800 retail it’s likely to be a little expensive for some, but for a wardrobe staple it feels like a steal.

The Museum of Design Atlanta is getting stylish with its newest exhibition, In the Bag. The display explores the origins, evolution, and design of our favorite fashion accessories.

Curators Clint Zeagler and Kevin Knaus have assembled an exhibition which pays homage to the greats like Hermes and Oscar de la Renta. But it’s not just about the masters, with works from students in the Master of Accessories Design programs in Milan and Georgia also on show. You may just see pieces from the handbag visionaries of the future!

The exhibition also explores the development and construction of different purses, and examines the influence that pop culture phenomena like Friends and Sex and the City have on our handbag choices.

“Atlantans will have the chance to see a unique and captivating showcase of handbags,” said Mr Zeagler, the owner and creative director of Atlanta women’s fashion line Pecan Pie Couture.

“It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity to really delve into the design and appeal of the handbag.“

You can see the show at The Museum of Design Atlanta until May 2.

In a world of oversized handbags, this Be & D hobo knows how to stand out from the pack.

The secret is the unique leather finish and the cute ruched details. The Cosette is available in purple and black varieties, but their differences go beyond merely color. This purple purse is made from traditional matte leather, with a textured front panel to add interest. That detail is gone on the black bag, replaced with an all-over crackle finish. This glossy fabric is so eye-catching that it runs the risk of being a little over-the-top for fans of this usually conservative shade. However, that same flamboyance is sure to attract some new fans along the way!

A magnetic snap closure opens up to reveal a luxuriously large interior, with enough room for your wallet, sunglasses, techie gadgets, and a cosmetics case. All that space is complemented by the slip pockets, zip compartment, and handy key clip.

The cutout handle is both cute and practical, so I’m not sure why Be & D thought this purse needed another strap. It’s even more puzzling when you consider that the braided chain strap is so skinny, it’s likely to be a little painful on your shoulder. It does give us the option of cross-body carrying, but that also makes the Cosette look more casual than it deserves to be.
