If Muska Milano is nothing else, it’s consistent. The fashion label creates traditional looking handbags from embossed leather replicating some of our favorite reptilian skins. It’s never strayed from this vision with the lizard flap bag and imitation crocodile satchel, and its new tote bag is no different.

If you like the tote’s trademark boxy looks, you’ll have little to complain about here. But for me there’s just not enough going on. The clever embossing does its best to replicate genuine crocodile skin, but it just doesn’t have quite the tactile appeal to stand alone.

The exterior is a little snoozeworthy, but there’s plenty to get excited about inside. Three massive storage compartments to be precise, plus a zip pocket, a slip pouch, and a cell phone pocket to be precise. With all those options, there’s no excuse for clutter!

This Muska Milano tote also gives us plenty of choices when it comes to color. You could play it safe with the brown or burgundy bags, or have some fun with orange, powder blue, or this pretty pink option.

But ultimately the combination of bland design and mere imitation exotic doesn’t encourage me to spend $725.

Even fashion designer Roberto Cavalli is uncertain about the future given the currently unstable economy. He might not be on the cusp of losing a job or foreclosing on a home, but he does run the risk of losing money by selling a significant amount of his stake in the Cavalli empire right now.

Though serious about moving forward with the plan, he intends to discuss things with his family before making a decision. In the meantime, he’ll continue production for the company, find a much-needed CEO, and finish developing a new Cavalli website that will hit the web soon.

Roberto Cavalli may be uncertain about whether he should sell his stock or not, but he’s definitely not in a quandary about the future of his new website. Perhaps the project keeps his mind off of his economic woes, but he definitely seems excited by the venture.

“I would like the world to be sweeter and there to be more love, and I’d like to transmit these values through my own Web site with blogs, live online appearances, pushing young designers,” he told WWD.

If aqua blue isn’t your preference, the Hobo International Lulu Cross Body also comes in black, pink, brown, green, or white leather. The price tag of $128 seems a little high to me for such a small and simple item, but I suppose it’s to be expected when quality materials are used.

It’s not exactly the Be & D Kan Kan, but the Ruffle Satchel from SR Squared by Sondra Roberts is a much more affordable alternative to the luxurious designer version. I wouldn’t say it’s a perfect option since the two styles are very different, but it’s an excellent option for an inexpensive bag with the increasingly popular ruffled look.

One of the things that makes this Medium Ruffle Satchel so much fun is that it really does look like one big bunch of ruffles instead of just having a few rows here and there for detail. It’s so incredibly feminine that you can’t help but feel ultra-girly when accessorizing with it. 

Ramping up the feminine factor is the bright, shiny fuchsia material. Contrasting white piping on the handbag adds some pop and accentuates the ruffled feature. The color combination makes the SR Squared Ruffle Satchel much less understated than the Kan Kan, but this bold look will appeal to tons of personal tastes and aligns with current color trends as well.

It is very similar to the SR Squared Wave Shoulder Bag. However, this Sondra Roberts bag is better for the spring and summer seasons, whereas glossy snakeskin jewel tones like on the Wave are more appropriate for fall and winter.

Although the Ruffle Satchel isn’t crafted from real leather, the synthetic material is acceptable and makes the bag within reach of most budgets. I might like the satchel even more without the shiny patent sheen, but it does seem like the type of handbag that’s meant to stand out in every way possible. You can get this spunky SR Squared purse for only $80.

Isaac Mizrahi is an international powerhouse, famous for his classic, yet quirky, designs. Perhaps that’s why this fairly ordinary looking hobo leaves me a little cold.

To call it a hobo is perhaps a bit of a misnomer. It doesn’t have the classic crescent silhouette, and there’s barely a slouch to be seen. But that’s what the great Isaac Mizrahi wants to name it, so who am I to argue?

The concept of the complementary tan stitched logo against the camel-colored suede is a sound one. After spying so many garish nameplates and signature prints, I’m glad to see one toned down. But the execution is just a little off. The large print makes the letters look a little random, and if you didn’t know what they were spelling out you’d probably never guess. The effect ultimately proves distracting rather than subtly chic.

The dark brown leather tabs and trim are supposed to be eye-catching accents, but they never quite gel with the other subdued details. There’s nothing wrong with a little contrast, but this effort falls short.

Yet for all its flaws this is the sort of handbag that won’t go out of fashion as trends come and go. If you’re after an evergreen accessory, this might just fit the bill.

Handbag lovers hoping to get their hands on Vera Wang’s purses will have to wait a little longer.

The famed wedding gown designer has put plans for a handbag line on hold, at least until the global financial situation improves.

“I didn’t want to launch a bag line in this economy,” the designer told WWD.

But there is a silver lining for Vera Wang fans: she’s still planning to release a sexy collection of shoes.

While that’s certain, the future of her contemporary Lavender Label is less sure. Last week the rumor mills were buzzing that the designer had abandoned the venture altogether. But Vera assures us that the speculation is a little premature.

She calls the label a “work in progress,” adding that it may morph into something new, whether it is licensed, repositioned with a new pricing strategy, or transformed into a dress line.

I guess we’ll all just have to wait and see … and start saving our pennies for those Vera Wang heels!

So I guess that means this dragon handbag is reserved for those special occasions. The only problem is that the long sling strap makes the purse appear a little casual for that. Besides, there isn’t enough space to carry the daily essentials of most girls I know.

It’s too small and delicate for daily use, and a smidge too casual for night time wear. But if you’ve got the confidence, and just the right occasion, to carry it this unique Giorgio Armani purse is bound to get attention.
