Retro 1980s style purses are hot property right now, but I’m always a little reluctant to cash in on a fad which is bound to be fleeting. But at just $12.99, this Sonia Kashuk clutch may be the solution, helping us stay-on-trend without the guilt.

This is 80s fashion at its flamboyant finest. The purple polyester body has animal print overload, with splashes of cheetah spots and snakeskin scales. This wild fabric is juxtaposed with shiny silver. The vintage ball clasp looks a little incongruous with this vivid retro design, but I’m willing to forgive that little misstep. The 80s was about excess after all!

We all knew the budget price wouldn’t come with too many frills, so the small and simple interior shouldn’t come as any surprise. There are no pockets or pouches, but the tiny design means you won’t need any organizational aids anyway. There’s no space for luxuries either, but you should have no trouble squeezing a lipstick, keys, cell phone, and a few credit cards inside.

A Fendi Spy bag is the It bag to end all It bags. While this comes with incredible cache, it also comes with a lot of lemmings and the pitfall of seeing every other girl with your purse.

Joe’s Jeans have produced another beautiful bag in their detailed Capos series.

Defined by their sumptuous leather detailing, these bags feature single block colors in an artistic layered leather. Rather than looking overdecorated and garish, therefore, these purses achieve a subtle build up of luxury leather and a delicate pattern. It’s a great way to produce a tote that coordinates with everything, while still having shedloads of individuality.

Featuring a stylized curvaceous sun design, this bag is in both a mottled soft leather and a smooth plain leather, both in glowing white. Whilst there was perhaps potential for a stylish fashion-house bright contrasting interior, Joe’s Jeans have continued the minimalist clean and clinical white theme. Be careful not to get this bright star dirty, as it will quickly go from angelic beauty to grimy old tote.

Minor grumbles aside, this spacious hold-all is practical and good looking. Combined with canvas shoes and designer jeans it is a casual day bag, but with a smart monochrome outfit it immediately suits a posh lunch. Lovely!

Hermione Granger is all grown up now. Emma Watson, of Harry Potter movie fame, is the star of Burberry’s most current advertising campaign.

When I first heard the rumors of the starlet appearing in the ads, I wasn’t sure what to expect of her following in the footsteps of previous Burberry fashion models like Kate Moss and Lily Donaldson. Well, I was pleasantly surprised and even a little taken aback by this young actress’ work for the campaign.

Let me just say that this girl knows how to work a camera. With some dramatic eye make-up and a few pouty-lipped male co-stars, Watson has transformed from pretty 19-year old gal to gorgeous fashion icon.

Of course, she’s had a little experience in the modeling department, even having a personal session with Karl Lagerfeld for a recent photo shoot. It’s not that I didn’t think she’d do a nice job for Burberry. I just didn’t expect such a lovely, mature look from her. She brings both youthfulness and class to the brand at the same time.

Holy Bottega Veneta! That’s what I thought when I saw this handbag. Bottega has always played with the big dogs (and by dogs, I mean designers), but this bag puts the line into super luxe territory usually reserved only for the oldest and most respected houses.

Not that Bottega Veneta isn’t respected, it totally is. And it’s not exactly a fledgling line, but its 1960’s birthday makes it considerably younger than, say, Hermes, who has (famously) been outfitting the elite since 1837.

This exotic cafe latte colored bag is made of sumptuous crocodile, and features a beautiful braid detail that borders the entire periphery of the purse. The trim is beautiful, yes, but also functional, as it will absorb some of the nicking and scratching from daily use, and prevent it from marring the surface of the bag.

And for $19,500, you’re going to be looking for any way possible to protect this baby. If I were you, I might hire a personal bodyguard, because the squared off hobo shaped combined with the super sleek skin exterior is sure to make women everywhere eye you with jealousy.

The interior is lined with suede, which is another great hint of luxury, and also will prevent you from destroying this little lovely from the inside out. Seriously, imagine what a leaky pen could do to your new crocodile bag that costs as much as a car!

Hermes, watch out, because this is one for the ages. It’s a lot more modern than the Birkin, and somewhat more reasonably priced for the material. (Although I couldn’t find out the species of crocodile or how rare it is, a thing that Hermes will tell you in a second.) I think this one is going to find a lot of fans in the younger, hipper glitterati.

I’m almost embarrassed to admit that when I first saw the name of this little handbag, I wondered if it had anything to do with the popular, much-discussed Twilight book series whose heroine bears the same name. Of course, I soon realized the ridiculousness of the thought and quickly deduced that the word “Bella” refers to the beauty symbolized by the woman’s figure on the front of the purse.

It’s an appropriate description for the black-and-white screenprint. The silver metal mesh of this Bella Frame bag, a signature material choice for Whiting & Davis, adds a very vintage feel to an already classic print. On a canvas painting, the picture of the bathing beauty would become a piece of art. Here, however, the details come together to create a Twenties, flapper-style handbag.

One of the features I’m referring to is the kiss-lock frame that almost always makes me think of a vintage store find. The other detail is the two-inch fringe which hangs, ever so ladylike, from the bottom of the purse. I can just imagine the extra shimmer of silver coming from the fringe as this purse is being carried.

As if the mesh material weren’t enough for some shine, Whiting & Davis added a crystal-embellished chain link strap. It won’t be the sturdiest of straps for carrying a handbag around. However, it’s a nice addition when you don’t feel like using the Bella as a clutch. Shoulder bag or clutch purse, this exquisite metal mesh frame bag is a great find for $168.

The same suede that I love also makes me hesitate a little, because there are no protective feet on the base. Unless you handle this hobo with care, it’s bound to show scuffs and scrapes in no time. But if you treat it like a princess, this Jil Sander purse may just be that wardrobe staple you’re searching for.

Police in Hong Kong are investigating an online video showing a teenage girl performing oral sex in exchange for cash to buy a designer handbag. The six-minute clip shows the 17-year-old performing the sex act on the upper deck of a Hong Kong bus.

The video, which appears to be shot on a camera phone, has now been circulated online under the heading “Kikimushroom do things on bus“. The accompanying caption reads “Pay $200 and get this service from a 17-year-old Hong Kong student. She wants to buy Gucci bag.”

Police were investigating whether the video is part of a growing trend called “compensated dating.” This euphemism describes a practice where young girls are paid for sex. In my day that was simply called prostitution.

I understand a girl’s love of Gucci more than the next person, but this just seems tacky to me. When I was 17 I was working checkouts at K-Mart. It wasn’t glamorous, but I would have rather saved my minimum wage paycheck to buy that designer purse than stoop as low as these teens!
