As with all Santi clutches, this little beaded number stands out from a crowd. Thee is no overall theme in the Santi brand (unless you count individuality), but this slouchy clutch hits tribal and beaded trends right on their pretty little heads.

So what makes this bag worth buying? For me, I adore the uneven and unplanned smattering of cuboid and round plastic beads sewn all over the exterior. In a mish-mash of colors, they offer plenty of scope for coordination, all sitting on a gentle blue woven silk background.

The components of this bag may seem childish or even (god forbid) tacky, but that is the aim the designer is going for. I doubt this handbag wants to do anything but have fun! The materials themselves are luxurious, take the silk fabric as an example.

For a handbag as original as the craftspeople that make it, this bright and exciting number is probably just the thing for you!

Well, here’s a little bling from fashion’s favorite (suspected) tax evaders. Wait, let me take that back. This is actually a whole lotta bling for one little handbag.

But, oddly, it doesn’t look particularly overdone. It isn’t exactly my cup of tea, but it’s a cute bag that I think will find a lot of followers. The metallic leather colorblock pattern uses silver and gold to make a loud, but lovely, statement.

My favorite part of the bag, actually, is the boxy shape and the way the colorblocks fit into it. I particularly like how the silver leather strap detail sets off the mostly gold material. The silver hardware accents the metallics beautifully.

I also really like the dimensions of the bag. At 9″ x 6″ x 5″, it’s basically a box, which makes it really easy to keep things organized. Especially if you’re like me, and your things are like five notebooks, a book, a PDA, and a compact, all of which are vaguely notebook shaped. In a more rounded off bag, these things never fit in perfect, they’re always poking their corners out oddly. But this is a good fit for a bookwormish fashionista.

Botkier has given the hobo a sleek modern makeover with the Ziggy. The trademark slouch and hippy flair is gone, replaced with chic styling and an uptown attitude.

The defining feature is the cool angular lines. We see them in the pointed flap, and again on the pleated zip-around front pocket. The traditional crescent shape is gone, replaced with an on-trend triangular silhouette.

The triangular profile gives the Ziggy a handy flat base, so it’ll sit up without falling over once you sit it down. Sadly though, there are no protective feet to protect that soft leather bottom. Make sure you handle this hobo with care, particularly if you opt for this pristine stone shade.

With the Ziggy’s modern style, it’s unfortunate that Botkier’s played it safe colorwise. The shades may be called anthracite and stone, but they may as well be black and white. There’s always a place for timeless tones, but I wish there was a more daring choice for bagistas who really want to push the boundaries.

If nothing else, this Jessica Simpson St. Tropez bag is certainly an eye-catcher. I find myself wondering how many outfits it could possibly work with, and yet I like it all the same.

It’s not that the brightly colored, harlequin-like pattern isn’t slightly overwhelming at first glance. I know I had to do a double take (or two) before deciding whether or not I actually liked the clutch. However, the combination of colors along with the woven technique is altogether interesting.

The effect is taken to a whole new level of unique when you add in the crocodile texture on the handbag. Though the leather is synthetic and the croc is merely embossed, I think it adds a little something extra to the look.

Leave it to Jessica Simspon to throw on a glossy patent finish on top of everything else. I could take or leave the sheen, but it’s not really distracting when you consider the all of the other features on the St. Tropez.

Of course, there are more options for color other than this “Bright MuLighti” choice. In fact, most of the color choices are represented in this version here. If you want a solid instead, you can practically just pick out a color from this multi-colored one to know your options. I love the Marc by Marc Jacobs line because it makes high design available at a lower price. The line is replete with affordable alternatives to the higher priced designer lines, and with a hip and downtown edge.

Lately I am crazy for purple, all shades of it. For summer, I am really digging atomic violets like this one right here. It looks particularly nice in the pebble grained leather of the Q Groovee. Or, should I say it looks particularly groovy?

The elongated rectangular shape is simple and beautiful, and large enough to fill with everything you need for everyday, and has a host of interior pockets that make it easy for you to stay organized. Plus it has both the ladylike dual rolled leather handles and also a detachable shoulder strap for convertibility.

The best things about the Q Groovee, though, are the sweet signature Marc Jacobs touches, like the center pleating and stitch details. The hexagonal patches that attach the straps to the bag are a nice detail that adds a touch of geometry to this mostly very soft bag.

Just another note in the Valentino is awesome file, the new Valentino Kaleidoscope Stone Tote has begun racking up a waiting list of pre-orders for fall 09.

The gradient stones that cover ever inch of the gray satin tote give the illusion of mirrors the way they catch the light. A slight ombre effect adds to the metallic shine. Nothing could have made this bag tacky faster than too sparkly rhinestones, but the ones chosen are absolutely perfect in their varying shapes, sizes and colors.

Again we are faced with the dilemma of the over-the-top fancy tote. We love them so but where would we wear them? Perhaps those with the very fanciest of lifestyles, which afford them $3,000 bags such as this, could wear something like this to lunch.

The texture of the bag, while visually stunning, would probably be another practical pitfall if we were concerned with such things as practicality when it came to Valentino bags.

So, another art piece we’d love to look at all day long, and certainly show off to the whole world, but would have difficulty actually executing.

Harveys may have some hot competition on its hands, with Maggie Bags looking to steal its seatbelt purse crown. Just like Harveys, the Tennessee-based Maggie Bags label creates eco-friendly accessories from recycled seatbelts.

But it’s not quite more of the same. While Harveys handbags feature a traditional lattice design, Maggie Bags are made with a patented diamond weave.

The colors are diverse, from neutral black and tan to vibrant red and lime green. The brand recently expanded their range to include a spirit line, a collection which features the color combinations of professional, college, and high school sporting teams.

“I think when football season comes around these will really take off,” said the brand’s founder, Woody Dew.

The fashion brand is a change of pace for parent company Tennessee Webbing Products, who also makes cargo restraint netting for pick-up tricks. But it seems to know a thing or two about style.

If you’re hoping for a bargain from this new kid on the block, you may be disappointed. Costs range from $50 for a clutch to $150 for a diaper bag. It’s not exorbitant, but it’s no cheaper than their more established competition.

So it seems the deciding vote may be down to personal preference. Are you into the Harveys’ boxy checks, or are Maggie Bags’ diamonds to your liking?
