If you are a fan of Goldenbleu’s striped handbags, such as the delightful miniature Andy purse, then their Tyler clutch will be just the thing to further your collection.

This spacious clutch harks back to a time of glossy patent leather and structured stylized interiors. The color schemes (a sophisticated navy/plum combo, or a bold and bright red/gold theme) are all based around “Studio 54” just with a “modern spin.” I couldn’t agree more; this is a retro styled purse that fits perfectly in a 21st century wardrobe.

This little evening bag is dressy enough to keep you smart even with jeans and (god forbid) trainers. It even keeps the theme going with its Goldenbleu monogram lining, one of my favorite features of these handbags. Its matte gray fabric coordinates brilliantly with the patent exterior.

Unfortunately this is one of the real clutches that live up to their names; you have to “clutch” it, as you don’t have the option of a handle. It’s a shame, but this bag should be light enough to be manageable.

This ASOS Mock Croc Vanity Case immediately recalled a red hard-case luggage set of my mother’s that I cruelly abused on trips to camp and grandma’s before I ever realized the vintage appeal of it’s retro lines cream faux-silk lining. There was a large red square suitcase and – the piece de resistance – a smaller round train case the perfect size for a child’s suitcase. Too bad none of us realized its fabulous fashionable value and it’s now dirty, dusty and dented.

So I was all too pleased to spy this round red mock croc travel bag on The Bag Lady. It could certainly fill the small space in my heart reserved for such luxe, retro accessories. But how could my cosmetics and travel accoutrements fill the small space of this bag? Let’s discuss.

While there is a mirror in the lid of the case, inspiring ideas of setting up a makeshift vanity everywhere I travel, there is no mention of pockets or partitions. This concerns me. If I’m using a travel-specific bag I don’t want to have to put all my bottles and brushes into other, smaller travel bags before putting them in the big bag. It’s a waste of time and space, two things there are never enough of when packing.

Another practical drawback is the fabric wrist strap. I’m not sure how cute I would find this while lugging the bag through the airport.

So I’m afraid this is mostly an aesthetic piece. It is bolstered in this respect by fabulous leopard-print lining. Would you expect anything less?

Proenza Schouler’s much anticipated handbag line has taken a somewhat spartan approach to design. I don’t just mean the design itself, which is, indeed, done with a light touch and an eye towards value. But, I also mean that they have smartly decided to stick with only a few basic shapes and sizes, so all the variation in the line comes from the materials used.

This new crocodile satchel is the most luxurious, and the most expensive, in the collection. At $14,500 retail, this bag is not for fashion hobbyists. It is for women with high design lives and credit cards with equally high limits. But not for women who have nothing to do. In fact this is the perfect take everywhere, including to the office, bag.

The simple utilitarian design allows the extraordinary crocodile skin to shine through. The amply generous main compartment has plenty of room for your laptop, folders, and papers. The front pouch pocket can hold all your pens and whatnot, and there are zippered pockets in each compartment for keeping hold of all those little things.

Because of the satchel’s simple design, it is versatile and will suit a lot of people. I can see it, beat up after years of use, as the perfect accessory for a rock-n-roll journalist, or with some Tory Burch slides on an uptown girl with a career in finance.

If you’re hoping to get in on the colorblocked trend without spending a whole lot of cash, let me introduce you to the Vando City Baby bag from Gustto.

The style is eye-catching, but also a little overworked. A large round metal accent draws you in, but is also a little puzzling. Exactly what’s it doing there? Initially I thought it might decorate a security flap, but that little tab of leather seems to serve no purpose at all. I think it’d find it a little tiresome to lift that flap every time I wanted to access the front zip pocket. A long zipper pull hangs down, fighting with the metal disc for attention. Such a compact purse looks a little busy with so much going on, but if you love details this could be right up your alley.

At least the colors are a little more sedate. While many colorblocked bags bring out all kinds of vibrant 80s hues, Gustto has opted for a more timeless design with black and bronze and black and steel blue combos on offer.

This is a much more practical package than you might guess from its compact design. The practical plainweave fabric lined interior is roomy enough to handle most everyday necessities, but don’t expect to find space for a water bottle and the latest issue of Vogue. But what you can stash inside will stay safe and secure thanks to the zip top closure.

At just $395, the Vando City Baby is a much more attractive option than D&G’s Miss Easy Way for budget-conscious bagistas.

When you’re onto a good thing, they say you should stick to it. Lauren Bush’s FEED Bag has raised almost $3 million for the World Food Programme, so it’s no surprise that she’s launched another. The FEED 2 Kenya bag will raise funds to assist the African nation.

The reversible tote is made from traditional Masai fabric and embellished with colored beads. Africa women and students from a school for the deaf handcraft each purse, which takes an day and a half to bead.

All that time and effort goes some way to explaining the price, which at $195 is significantly more expensive than the original FEED bag. It’s also worth noting that $100 from the sale of each bag will help feed two Kenyan schoolchildren for a year. Lauren hopes the FEED 2 Kenya bag will raise $100, 000 for the cause. Donating more than half the proceeds would help her get there faster! I appreciate it when any designer helps out those less fortunate, but taking such a large share of the profits really seems to undermine that effort.

The FEED 2 Kenya bag will be sold exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman until September.

From the Nightingale to the George V shopper, Givenchy has given fans of oversized purses something to smile about. While these handbags are convenient for day wear, when the sun sets most of us want to travel a little lighter. That’s where the Mini Melancholia purse steps in.

Patent leather is always eye-catching, but often it becomes a little too flashy for my tastes. Here a pebble-grained texture tones things down a tad, giving the purse a finish which is elegant rather than ostentatious.

That same philosophy has been applied to the hardware. The smooth shiny gold gleams, and there’s just enough to catch the eye without overwhelming. The Givenchy logo is abstract so it adds interest without obnoxiously advertising the brand.

It might be called mini, but this certainly isn’t the smallest evening bag I’ve seen. The generous space features a zippered pocket, and a secret love letter compartment. How very French!

I love the soft leather shoulder strap, which is much wider at the middle for comfortable carrying. It makes such a refreshing change from those painful metal chains we typically see! If you’re not as mad about it, or you’d just prefer a plain clutch, it’s easy to remove.

There’s so many elements to admire here, but the retail value isn’t one of them. $1900 is a whole chunk of change to spend on a purse, and much more than most of us can afford. But if you can swing it, I don’t think you’ll ever regret owning this timeless leather bag.

John Fluevog is known for his unique shoe designs and has gained a faithful following – and a chorus of critics – for his vision. Are his handbags just as controversial? I venture a no.

It was a wild evening at Central Park Zoo last week and not just because of the location’s inhabitants. The Wildlife Conservation Society held their annual gala, and tons of guests showed up in support.

One of the many highlights of the evening was the impressive exhibition of animal-inspired Judith Leiber minaudiere handbags in the arms of guests. Though the designer’s Madison Avenue boutique lent out some of their bags to guests for the evening. there were plenty of personally-owned Judith Leiber creations in attendance as well.

With choices like the Peacock and Foo Dog Ming minaudieres, Leiber certainly has no lack of animal options when it comes to her designs. Some of the ones specifically making a showing at the Wildlife Gala include lions, mallard ducks, butterflies, and dolphins.

“It’s fantastic, and just right for me,” the chairwoman of the event, Allison Maher Stern, said of her purse in the shape of a snow leopard — a nod to the new exhibit of snow leopards at the Central Park Zoo, where the event was held.

As a rule, a minaudiere bag is anything but practical as it’s almost always small, oddly-shaped, and gem-encrusted. However, practicality isn’t exactly top of mind when it comes to dressing for a black-tie event, which is just about the only place the bag style is appropriate.

Nearly everything about this Geneva clutch practically screams Treesje to me. I probably could have guessed the label if I hadn’t seen the name first.

Like other handbags from the brand, the Geneva is contemporary with a hint of rocker edge to it. The design is simple but with interesting details that make it anything but ordinary. That describes just about every Treesje bag from the Vienna hobo to the Mortale clutch.

While the Geneva might be much less “gothic” than the Mortale, it is no less modern. The angular pleating that runs across the front and back of the bag adds just enough visual interest to catch the eye but not distract from the whole look.

Though the yellowish chartreuse option might be more appropriate for the current season, I can’t help but love this deep red version. The color is rich enough for fall and winter fashion but not completely out of place with a colorful floral sundress.

As you might expect from a slightly oversized clutch bag, there’s a decent amount of storage space in the grosgrain lined interior. This handbag is even large and practical enough to carry as a shoulder bag when you attach the leather strap. Though undoubtedly out of many price ranges, this stylish designer clutch is decently priced at $380.
