Mary Kate Olsen has been swanning about town with her Alexander Wang Coco bag for months, while we all looked on enviously. But now this studded beauty is set for global release, so we can all get in on the action.

The Coco sets itself apart from the pack with two exciting features: the leather and the studs. Black leather is nothing new, but buffalo leather is certainly special. The washed hide has a luxurious texture and a sumptuously soft finish.

I’d worry about damage to that soft leather if it weren’t for the studs dotting the base. While most bags opt for four or five protective feet, Alexander Wang takes no chances and covers the bottom in gold hardware. It gives the Coco an edgy look while being completely practical at the same time.

A top zip opens to reveal a decadently large interior. If only the designer had considered how easy it would be for most of us to clutter that room up! I might be a scatterbrain, but I’d suggest the zippered pocket won’t be nearly enough to keep most busy girls organized.

If you’re a wisp of a thing like Mary Kate, you’ll be able to carry this handbag over your shoulder. But average misses will yearn for straps that are just a little longer. I certainly wouldn’t want to carry this bulky bag by hand around the city.

Practical concerns aside, this is one sexy purse. And for $850, it’s really not bad as far as high-end designer handbags go!

It seems to me that Christy Turlington is one of the hardest working models in the fashion world right now. Just as her Bally fall 09 commercial is revealed, we’re already seeing her face again in ads for another label.

While Turlington might be the perfect Bally woman, she’s also glamming it up for Yves Saint Laurent. Following previous rumors alluding to the collaboration, the 40-year old supermodel stars in YSL’s fall/winter advertising campaign for 2009-2010.

One of the things I love about the ads, besides the gorgeous bags and clothes the model showcases, is the sleek style of the set. Forget European landmarks or natural settings, this Stefano Pilati designed campaign features only the label’s items, Christy, and a black logo frame against a white background. The result is striking and dramatic.

Bravo to the major labels who are featuring these experienced, mature (if not impossibly ageless) models from the past. Turlington looks as fabulous as ever here for Yves Saint Laurent and will surely continue to do so for many more years.

G by Guess, the cheaper sister brand of handbag guru, Guess, has produced a great summer showstopper just in time for the blockbuster season.

This little clutch glistens in silver snakeskin python fabric, and is also available in a more subtle and situation friendly black. The silver, however, really shows of the vintage inspired rough and distressed fabric – high in style, but thankfully still affordable.

The envelope style clutch is very on trend. Every red carpet at this summer’s big hits has been full of these practical yet style-hungry designs, and so far, everyone loves them! So if you are traipsing to the cinema to see Transformers 2, or the latest rom-com, this is the date bag to set you on your way.

I do wish that this feminine purse had an optional handle, just to add ease and practicality. Whilst the wrist handle is lovely, two alternatives are always good! What it lacks in handles, however, it makes up for in looks.

Vera Bradley’s handbags aren’t everyone’s cup of chai, but I think this Out to Lunch tote is a much cuter way to carry your sandwiches to work than a boring old brown paper bag!

Longchamp Handbags on eBay

There’s not really anything about this handbag that makes me want to stand up and cheer, but it’s not one to be completely ignored either. Though not extraordinary in style or function, the Hype Marella Camera is a decent little fashion accessory.

There are several different details on the Marella that make it worth the consideration. One of my favorites is the snakeskin printed leather. It’s not entirely noticeable from afar, but a closer inspection reveals the interesting texture. Though not always the case for snakeskin, I’d actually call this one rather delicate looking, which I like very much considering the size of the bag.

The ruching around the front decorative turnlock feature is a nice look for the purse as well. It draws the eye to the gold hardware and sort of softens the overall look of the front.

On either side of the Marella Camera is looped a tassel with a gold-toned bead at each end. Again, it’s just a decorative touch that’s not particularly functional but a nice addition to the design.

This flat handbag is rather petite in size and not a great option for long days with errands around town as there are only a couple of pockets. However, when the goal is to fashionably accessorize rather than conveniently carry things, the Hype Marella Camera will do fabulously.

However, this Tepper Jackson shopper is lent more credibility by the great and retro sixties pattern.

In functionality and practicality, here is a great handbag that hits plenty of trends. Graphic and bold, it is great fun!

It often seems like The SAK has just two types of handbags. There are the sleek urban stylings of the Ashbury Shopper and Silverlake Flap bag, and then there are the casual green accessories like the Eco Harmony Shopper and the Indio Crochet tote.
