Trust Hobo International to deliver another cute, classic accessory. The brand never really pushes the boundaries, but you can count on it to create the kind of handbags you’ll want to carry season after season. The Maralyn is no exception, with its structured shape and compact design channeling vintage Hollywood style.

At first glance it appears like any flap bag, although the oval cut-out ups the glam. But look closer. Those cut-outs are actually handles, which can be folded up to give the Maralyn a completely different look. Of course most girls need a hands-free option, and Hobo International delivers there too. Just fold the flaps down again, attach the longer shoulder strap, and you’re ready to raid the canapés.

While the design is compact, it’s no lightweight either. It’s certainly not oversized, but it should have no trouble handling everything you need to make the day-to-night transition. But you may want to add that shoulder strap if you’re loading it up, as those metal-trimmed handles don’t look too comfortable.

The Maralyn’s classic style means you could pair it with denim or a flirty sundress during the day, before glamming up and stepping out at night. Mulberry has a new future favorite on their hands. After the budget-friendly Mitzy bag helped them turn around their sinking sales numbers, it seems they’ve decided to keep things somewhat affordable with their new Daria handbag collection.

Of course, “affordable” is quite a relative world when we’re talking about designer handbags. However, the Daria line, in spongy and patent leather, is all priced under $1,000. That changes when the bag is in an exotic leather like crocodile or ostrich, but the leather version looks just fine to me.

The Daria debuted with the new fall/winter season and can be seen in their current ad campaign, which features Irina Kulikova and Kasia Struss and was photographed by Steven Meisel. Like the Weekender II Duffel Bag, no one could accuse this Weekender Print Crossbody of lacking in organizational qualities. Though significantly smaller than the average-sized duffel, the crossbody still has its fair share of pockets and other practical features.

We’re starting to hit the time of year where canvas material is on its way out of stores and replaced with fabrics like velvet and corduroy. With its floral cotton print, there’s no mistaking the Weekender Crossbody with a fall or winter accessory. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it during the last bit of warm weather or at least stock up for the spring.

My favorite part of the canvas print is the blend of colors. The yellows, blues, and greens on this version are just too pretty to ignore. This bag also comes in a darker color combo including fuchsia, which might be better at transitioning from summer to autumn, but personally I prefer the blues and greens.

The Weekender Print Crossbody is more than just a pretty purse, though. In addition to the front pouch, there’s exterior zippered storage and more zip and slip pockets inside. The style of the bag is flat, which makes it comfortable for crossbody carrying since it falls around the hip.

The long strap is detacable, though I’m not really sure why since that basically renders the bag useless. It’s not one of those convertible designs that becomes a clutch when you take off the strap, but I guess Fossil was going for a classic crossbody look with utilitarian style. This practical and pretty canvas handbag is admirably affordable at only $78.

Hayden-Harnett put a spin on the current woven trend with this Zee tote.

While the exterior is a sedate brown, Hayden-Harnett has fun inside with a psychedelic patterned silk lining. The generous space features a large zippered pocket on one side, and three slip pockets in the other. That’s one for your cell phone, another for your iPod, and one more for your Nintendo DS!

But beware: not all Zees are created equal. While this brown tote is a stylish everyday purse, the strange tones of the Eucalyptus Colorblock variety give the basketweave a real mismatched look. It might suit the current taste for all things 80s, but don’t expect the trend to last far beyond this season.
