The quirky, lovable Isaac Mizrahi is one busy man, and his schedule is getting even busier. The well-known designer is heading to QVC for a new fashionable collaboration.

Mizrahi’s line with the famous television shopping network is set to include handbags, apparel, shoes, and even home accessories. The only downside is that we have to wait until December to see it.

This new collaboration is due to the designer’s desire to “make his wares more available to the general public.” Well, we’re ready for it, Isaac. Bring on the affordable fashion.

In these penny-pinching days, fashionistas are often reaching for synthetic purses in lieu of the latest designer “it” bag. I’ve got to say, faux leather is the way to go if you’re on a tight budget. Not only is it almost always cheaper than the real thing, but it can also pass as a decent imitation in some cases.

Now, I’m not sure many women would mistake this Jessica Simpson tote as a real snakeskin leather handbag, but I’m guessing that most of them would appreciate it regardless. Though the Boulevard line of bags also comes in solid colors like brown and purple, it’s this faux python version that I find myself drawn toward the most.

The patent sheen on the large tote really makes the snakeskin pop. Also, it almost makes the brown and cream synthetic material look like it has a hint of metallic to it.

The Boulevard’s chunky trim is a great accent to the intricate texture and suits the style considering the bag’s overall size. It’s anything but understated, though, which might not be a fit for everyone’s taste. However, I think it works well for the design.

At only $108, this Jessica Simpson handbag is well within what’s considered the budget-friendly range. Look for it in a smaller shoulder bag style as well.

I always feel a sense of pride when I come across a lovely design in a handbag that doesn’t cost the earth. With this delicate purse from Miracle, you can get unusual retro looks for the bargain basement price of $26.

As with most cheap and cheerful clutches, the beading and sequins on this clam shaped purse are likely to fall off more easily than with high-end brands. That aside, however, the delicate beaded design is quite charming to look at, with teardrop mother of pearl oyster shell dangling gently at the bottom, and the more lightweight glittery sequins gracing the top.

Perhaps my favourite feature is the contrasting circular wooden handles, which really stand out against the off-white fabric of the clutches exterior, and the brilliant white interior. Firstly the dark against the oyster is very aesthetically pleasing, and second the whole design reminds me of retro purses and 50s/60’s fashion.

Whilst the design may actually be slightly impractical (have you ever tried carrying a bag with handles like this for hours at a time?), a little pain suffered for such a looker is a small price to pay. Good looking, unusal and affordable – this bag is great for keeping you going through the coming party season.

Inge Christopher is famous for feminine evening bags which channel old Hollywood glamour. So it’s surprising to see the brand creating something as edgy and contemporary as the Greta.

This hobo has the crescent shape we expect, but it’s a lot less slouchy. The structure comes from decorative seams dotted with edgy metal rings. From a distance they appear like short ruffles, but on closer inspection they’re very rock and roll.

But Inge Christopher hasn’t abandoned the hobo’s bohemian sensibilities altogether. While the abundance of hardware adds edge, the long tassel hanging from the zipper pull brings just the right amount of hippie-chic.

The Greta is right on trend with its oversized design. It’s almost too large to handle, despite a spacious zippered pocket and a few multifunctional slip pouches. At least you’ll know where you left your cell phone and iPod, even if you can’t find anything else inside!

If you always felt Inge Christopher purses were a little too girly for your tastes, the Greta may be the bag that changes your mind.

No matter how many years go by, most of us still have a special place in our hearts for Barbie. The iconic plastic doll may not be a realistic representation of the female form, yet she continues to capture the imagination of fashion-forward women around the globe. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the ageless beauty, and Paul’s Boutique has released a special handbag range to celebrate.

These aren’t the canvas Barbie-branded tote bags we carried around as kids. Instead they’re grown-up designer accessories which pay homage to some of the most iconic Barbie imagery from the last five decades. One purse features zebra print accents mimicking the doll’s first black and white striped swimsuit.

Hype continues to create affordably luxurious accessories with the Amanda Clutch.

The suede body is embossed with snakeskin, and given a patent sheen for an extra dose of sexy. It’s not quite as prized as the authentic exotic skin, but it’s not as pricey or fragile either. As with the entire Amanda range, the purse is dressed up with a gleaming gold buckle. Again this isn’t simply an aesthetic choice, but one which gives the Amanda a practical edge.

While the Amanda is billed as a medium clutch, it skirts dangerously close to oversized territory. So it’s a real shame it doesn’t come with a shoulder strap. If you take advantage of all the space inside, the purse could easily become awkward to carry by hand.

And there really is space to spare, with two inner compartments. The front section has two slip pouches, and there’s a zippered welt pocket in the back. While it’s got a sexy slender profile, it’s so long and deep that you can carry more than the essentials. That makes it perfect for those special occasions that call for a digital camera and a compact for cosmetic touch-ups!

Just like the design, the Amanda’s colors are bold. Traditional neutrals are passed over for daring rouge red and electric ink blue.

Prada’s lookbooks are something to behold. Fans anxiously await their release each season because of the creativity involved in the design. It takes each of the label’s collections and skyrockets them to a whole new level.

I don’t think anyone could look at their current issue and not at least by slightly compelled by the images. I thought that the brand’s most recent ad campaign was dramatic, but it’s nothing when compared to the fall/winter 09 lookbook.

The issue was produced by the AMO studio with artwork by Jeroen Koolhaas and Lok Jansen. The looks were created by manipulating, adding to, and altogether improving backstage photos from the collection’s runway show. Prada’s website describes it as:

AMO’s journey through the concepts of the collection: untouched nature, looming crises and urban decadence become graphic themes, and meet fashion in an unedited imaginary.

This is not the first collaboration for Prada and AMO. They’ve worked together for past lookbooks including spring/summer 09. To view the fall/winter 09 version or download the file, go to Prada’s website and click on collection.

The brand takes recycled license plates and inner tire tubes to create handbags of style and substance. The purses are handcrafted by the people of Kayamandi in South Africa, a township striken by poverty and AIDS. Tag Bag head Meeshee Scherrei visited the village in 2006, and was touched by its plight. She hopes that the success of her handbag line can help turn the village’s fortunes around.
