There’s absolutely nothing subtle about this leopard bag from Evans.

Leopard print rarely fades into the background, but for some reason Evans thought it wasn’t loud enough. So the label has covered this handbag is sequins for that extra bit of sparkle. The glitz doesn’t stop there, with shiny metal studs and rings near the handles upping the oomph. As if this purse needed the extra pizzazz!

To keep the price down to just £35, Evans had to make a few sacrifices. The finish is a less than glamorous synthetic, and the interior is spacious but basic. Such a large space really calls for plenty of pockets, but you won’t find them here.

But something tells me those who love this leopard bag won’t care too much. It goes without saying that this isn’t a purse for everyone. For most fashionistas, its bedazzling exterior will be too outrageous. But if you’ve got the right confidence and charisma, carrying this purse is one way to make a big impression!

The Laura from Elaine Turner marries the contemporary attitude of snakeskin with a gentle femininity.

While many snake purses are dramatically dark, the Laura takes a much softer approach. Some might accuse the pastel color palette of being a little washed out, but there’s something so pretty about the muted shades. This pink purse is the girliest option, but if you’re looking for something more classic you could opt for camel or gray.

The large bow sitting in the left corner ups the femininity, but I think it clutters the design. It’s all a matter of personal taste, but I would have preferred a cleaner look. The snakeskin markings add all the interest this clutch really needs. I’m a lot more enthused about the silver frame closure, which gives the Laura an authentic vintage feel. It might seem at odds with the exotic print, but it definitely works with the purse’s soft tones.

While the frame adds structure and style, it also makes a small interior space seem even tinier. Try to fill the Laura to capacity and it will simply pop open. But practicality isn’t entirely forgotten. There are interior pockets for small accessories, just the thing for carrying the complimentary cosmetic mirror!

A genuine snakeskin purse will cost a pretty penny, so Elaine Turner has opted for an embossed leather finish instead. The $325 isn’t cheap for an after five bag, but it’s a lot more affordable than the real thing!

I expected to see a few bags in this new Sasha Pivovarova editorial, but I certainly didn’t expect her to be wearing them … at least not on her body instead of her shoulder.

Who knew that paper bags could be so chic? Well, maybe chic isn’t the right word, but W Magazine was definitely aiming for eye-catching when they concocted this bit of fashion photography. Sasha P’s version of the “urban waif” for the Paper Bag Princess editorial is anything but festive, though.

Wearing torn and crinkled paper shopping bags from top designers and loitering in back alleys, the model might be channeling the truant look but doesn’t quite make it there while draped in luxury goods. The paper bags, which are crafted into dresses, hats, and skirts for the shots, take a back seat to Armani and Dior clothes and accessories.

I’m not sure what kind of statement is supposed to be made here, but I suppose we’re just meant to appreciate the beauty of the photography and the designer merchandise on display. One can only wish to have the goods in one of their very own paper bags straight from the store.

Although the Bally Joletta handbag looks like a simple hobo at first glance, there are some first-rate details on it that make it worth your consideration.

The Joletta’s impressive quality comes with a hefty price tag, however, as you might expect from the brand. While a $1,165 retail price will probably keep many shoppers away, those who are looking in the designer handbag range might find it reasonable for what you get.

For practical gals like me who prefer overall versatility for purchases of that degree, you won’t likely be disappointed in what you get here. While there’s nothing particularly stunning about this Bally bag, it’s sure to go with just about any everyday outfit you pull out of your closet and hold up to lots of wear and tear. That’s something worthy of a little extra cash.

The Joletta isn’t completely devoid of personality, though. If I had to classify it, I’d say it’s clean and contemporary with an edgy twist. The smooth calfskin leather is sleek and classy, but the extra features add some spark. Its angled, zippered pockets on the front and chainlink on the shoulder strap lend just a hint of rock-and-roll, while little bits of braided texture on the top of the strap and zipper pulls keep the look from going too far.

In some ways, the Joletta handbag reminds me of the Marc by Marc Jacobs Strippy Zippy, but Bally’s version of the black hobo is a tad more sophisticated. Whether that makes it more deserving of its higher price tag is for you to decide.

Jil Sander has been killing it lately on the runway. Her uniquely minimal, menswear-inspired designs are dominating the fashion scene. What I like about Jil Sander is that throughout the years and trends she has always remained true to her clean, pared down design sensibilities.

This bag really epitomizes the Jil Sander look. It is as though the supple black leather has just been smoothed into a sleek geometric design. This bag may look flat in the picture, but in reality, it’s huge. 20″ x 17″ x 9″ is big enough for a day of work with a laptop and accessories. But it sort of folds into itself, so if it isn’t full, it will lay nicely against the body, instead of puffing up all around you.

The diamond-shaped design is set off by the low placement of the front pocket, which fastens with a snap to keep your keys close at hand. The zipper runs lengthwise (front-to-back), so it avoids the sharp corners that would make zippering awkward.

Everything about this bag is practical, except the price. At $2,195, I just think it’s too much for what is basically a work bag. Supple-skinned bags are a less practical investment than harder leathers simply because they wear out quickly. And I would want to shove everything in this bag and take it everywhere, so it would definitely wear out in no time. Overall, it’s a great bag, just not a great price.

A clutch with a witty name like this Maxx New York Delgrade purse is always nice to write about. Graded color, you see? It may not change the handbag itself, but it can’t hurt! They say not to judge a book by its cover, but hey!

The shape of this little patent clutch is unusual, and emphasized more by the clever shaded color that is dark at the top and light at the bottom. I particularly like the over-sized blue edging with the chunky gold studding.

The animal print lining with its zebra pattern make this Maxx New York purse a little bit different from the rest of the clutches out there, although I always worry that any light interiors will get easily stained.

Whilst a good size and with little pockets inside to increase practicality, it is a shame that this bright patent purse doesn’t feature an optional handle. Whilst clutching looks good, sometimes you want it to be easy to carry!

Eleven years ago, Jean Franco’s black handbag was stolen as she worked at the now defunct Steinbach’s Department store. She never imagined that this weekend, she’s get her purse back.

The theft left the mother of two frantic with the thought that someone now had her car and house keys and valuable identification.

“I remember that night very well, and it was extremely traumatic. I felt violated,” Mrs. Franco said. “I was sick that someone had all my information, all my keys and knew where we lived.“

But she had little to worry about. Somehow the handbag ended up inside a sealed locker in a Shelton family’s garage. There it stayed, undisturbed, until it was discovered by 33-year-old garage owner Jennifer Thompson. It took her just five hours to track down the bag’s rightful owner.

“I can’t believe it, but that’s it, that’s my old handbag, oh my god,” Mrs Franco shouted out to Ms Thompson as the two women met at the local mall. “I can’t believe how heavy it is. Wow, what did I leave in there?“

As it turns out she left a large black cell phone, four times as big as the one she uses today, a wallet filled with photos and credit cards, $76 in cash, and a $128.41 payroll check from Steinbach’s dated 1997. The only thing missing was her driver’s license.

“Maybe some teenage girl wanted to use it, who knows?” she said. “But it’s very strange nobody took the money and credit cards, and I still wonder how it got inside that locker.”

Mrs. Franco gave Mrs. Thompson a $25 reward from the cash in the wallet, and planned to use the rest to fill her car with gas. “It would have gone a lot further back then,” she joked. “I probably could have filled it up two or three times with that money in 1997 or 98.”

The $650 price tag is reasonable for a wardrobe staple like this. If the matte black variety is a little conservative for your tastes, consider it in the black and gray ombre leather.
