Steven by Steve Madden Lady Killers Satchel | Bold Purple Handbag with Feminine Details

Posted on: Aug 29

This Steven by Steve Madden satchel jumped out at me as soon as I saw it. It wasn’t just the bold amethyst purple color either. This spunky Lady Killers handbag has a great combination of edgy and feminine details for an everyday accessory with more than your average bag’s personality.

For $248, I would expect real leather for this satchel, and the Lady Killers doesn’t disappoint. The ever so slightly slouchiness to the leather blends well with the handbag’s side ruched trim. Although the ruching isn’t anything like the ruffled detail on the Jessica Simpson Runway Satchel or Rampage’s Raegan Tote, there is still an undeniable feminine appearance to the feature.

In the Lady Killer’s other two color options, black and ivory, this Steven by Steve Madden purse is equally pretty in shape and overall style. However, the trendy purple shade makes it oh-so-ideal for this fall’s fashion. The color is set off beautifully by the satchel’s bright gold-toned hardware. In particular, the round closure on the front pocket’s flap is an eye-catcher.

Because of the handbag’s depth, I think the Lady Killer could have used a longer detachable strap for those times when the bag might feel bulky under your arm. However, the double handles are rolled and seem comfortable enough for regular use.

More Features of the Lady Killers Satchel

  • Measures 12.5 x 10 x 5.5 inches
  • Double handles with 4.5 inch drop
  • Zip top closure
  • Exterior pocket
  • Printed satin lining

Alexander McQueen Faithful Leather Glove Clutch | Wild and Weird Black Leather Clutch With Attached Moto Glove

Posted on: Aug 29

Alexander McQueen is one designer who is not afraid to let his weird, wacky sense of humor shine through. Who else is going to pull off attaching a glove to a clutch, and not just pull it off, but make it a must have accessory of the season? McQueen takes his conceptual ideas about fashion, culture, and design, and makes them wearable. At least for some people.

There has been a lot of buzz about this bag, and as you might guess, it mostly centers around the glove, which was inspired by the iconic style of Marianne Faithfull. Personally, I think the glove is a great addition to the bag, aesthetically, and since it brings a sense of humor to an otherwise totally badass look, I would leave it on. But a lot of ladies out there prefer to detach the glove and just wear it.

Looking beyond the glove, the clutch itself is a classic rocker style that will work for downtown types and ladies looking to add a little extra edge. The gunmetal stud embellishment in the corners adds a hint of sparkle, but a goth-tinged sparkle that seems in keeping with the hard-edged aesthetic. I love the zipper detail, and the fact that all the hardware is black. There’s just nothing to take away from McQueen’s monochromatic, back in black design.

This clutch is totally iconic, and I think that, despite its $1,095 price tag, it’s probably a good investment, since people are going to be talking about it years into the future.

The Jesse B. Collection Strawberry Patch Clutch | Cute Kitsch Canvas Purse

Posted on: Aug 29

With the weekend here, the time has come for a little fun. After all, that’s what time off is meant to be about. Fun is exactly what this casual canvas clutch from the Jesse B Collection is aiming for.

With a cute and cheery strawberry button on the neutral fabric, this clutch is very 50s. After all, it would look fabulous with polka-dot swing skirts and gorgeous red heels. The outer fabric may be surprisingly dull for such a kitsch bag, in a pale shade of brown, but at least it draws attention to the tiny quirky feature and inspiration behind its strawberry patch name.

The inside is much more fun, with a miniature polka-dot red lining. The frame is swathed in the material and the inside bereft of multiple pockets, but it is still oddly charming.

All and all this Jesse B. purse is a gentle attempt at looking retro and vintage. The effort may not quite work, but the strawberry theme is sweet!

  • Red polka dot lining
  • Strawberry appliqué

Kathrine Baumann King Tut Minaudiere | Swarovski Crystal Egyptian Pharoah Evening Bag

Posted on: Aug 29

Move over Judith Leiber; Kathrine Baumann is muscling in on your territory! Just like Judith, Kathrine creates some eye-catching, and unforgettable crystal minaudieres.

This head-turning beauty is the King Tut, modeled after the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun. In rich styling befitting this rich boy king, his likeness is rendered in gorgeous gold. His headdress is adorned with black and gold Swarovski crystals, and his eyes glisten with the same precious jewels. It’s a dazzling look to be sure, but when would you carry such a purse?

It’s certainly not when you need to carry much because, like so many minaudieres, storage space is skint. Thankfully though, it is lined (in luxurious gold fabric no less), so you won’t have to worry about your party essentials rattling around. And the space even includes a tuckaway chain strap for some hands-free fun.

But this ostentatious Egyptian purse doesn’t come cheaply. In fact, it’ll set you back $2487.50. That’s not so bad when compared to other gem-encrusted minaudieres, but that doesn’t make the bottom line hurt any less!

  • Measures 6 x 5.75 x 3 inches
  • Made in Italy

Alexander Wang Talks to “W” Magazine about Naming Handbags | Designer Draws Inspiration from TV Characters

Posted on: Aug 28

Alexander Wang has been quickly moving his status from up-and-coming to highly desirable in the great fashion industry. With the launch of his new e-commerce site earlier this month, I anticipate that his sales will rise even quicker than the buzz around his name.

In a recent interview with W Magazine the designer revealed some interesting details about his childhood fashion, current press, and creative inspirations. One of the quirkiest bits of info was regarding his process of choosing names for handbags and shoes:

The shoes are named after models – Lara, Hanne, Racquel – but the bags are named after TV show characters. We have the Brenda and Kelly [90210], the Dorothy shopper [The Golden Girls] and the Trudy [Miami Vice]. They’re all the shows that used to be on TV when I was growing up.”

I can understand the 80s-style Brenda, but it sure makes me wonder which character inspired the name of his strange, ready-for-skydiving Bianca vest bag.

Tignanello Soft Touch Ball Shopper | Slouchy and Supple Leather Handbag

Posted on: Aug 28

I might be a little biased when it comes to reviewing Tignanello styles because I think they have some fabulous handbags, but I’m sure I’m not alone in liking the look and design of this Soft Touch Ball Shopper.

One of my favorite features of this moderately affordable purse is its real leather material. That’s one of the great things about Tignanello; other than monogrammed fabric bags, they stick with a very decent quality of the real thing without marking up the price. Even brands like Jessica Simpson, which has a fairly similar price range and target market as Tignanello, tends to favor manmade and leather-like in lieu of the real deal.

The Soft Touch collection from this label is exactly what is described. The soft, buttery leather is perfectly relaxed and slouchy without looking overly sloppy or too casual.

Although it’s not a particularly large handbag, you might be surprised by what you can carry inside the Ball Shopper. The slightly unstructured shape lends itself to filling the inside up and outward. It isn’t very tall, so you won’t be able to store things like paperwork or magazines, but there are tons of pockets for smaller items. There is even a zippered divider for keeping everything extra-organized inside. The bag’s exterior pockets on the front and back make for even more storage.

The interior is lined with a cute, modern polka dot satin fabric. While the hidden magnetic snap is extremely convenient, it’s certainly not the most secure form of closure. It does make it easy to access your stuff, though. The Soft Touch Ball Shopper’s long, rolled leather handles are a comfortable way to carry this stylish leather bag.

More Features of the Soft Touch Ball Shopper

  • Measures 12 x 8 x 5 inches
  • Double handles with 9.5 inch drop
  • Also available in black, white, and ivory
  • Retails for $169

The SAK Silverlake Convertible Handbag | Clutch Purse Meets Tote Bag

Posted on: Aug 28

Versatility is the name of the game in a world where we are all still tightening our purse strings (pun intended). This spacious crossbody tote from The SAK is easily converted into a chunky clutch – two bags for the price of one!

As a tote this is a tall and spacious bag available in either muted or metallic shades. When rolled out and in its chunky crossbody form, it is a highly functional bag with comfy wide handles and and easy to carry attitude.

As a clutch this bag has a whole new personality. It is still chunky and boldly coloured, but now has an air of the futuristic and robotic. Chunky square embroidery meets large silver hardware for a very modern look.

With a split personality and a wrapped up look, this bag is useful and quite cute. The tote is rather boring but functional, while the clutch tries to make up for it with its angular style. Together, they work, and are probably a good and sensible investment – even if they aren’t that exciting!

More Features of this The SAK Silverlake Convertible Bag

  • Available in 10 color options
  • Plainweave graffiti print lining
  • Leather exterior
  • Optional handle for clutch or tote

Jessica Jensen Pure Tote | Sophisticated Textured White Leather Handbag

Posted on: Aug 28

Few things make a statement like a white, bright, handbag. Jessica Jensen brings a little something different to the mix with the Pure Tote.

The lush white leather is adorned with round white studs. What I like about this is that it’s on-trend, but just a little left of center. We’re used to metal studs adding edge and attitude, but keeping them complementary in color the effect is more subtle and elegant. The accents are arranged in an eye-catching geometric design built around a stylish diamond.

It’s just a shame that the studs only adorn the front. You’ll need to remember which side to show, as the back is plain white and pedestrian. A slip pocket might be practical, but it’s not a design feature. Yawn.

Jessica Jensen is a designer who remembers why women carry handbags. We might use them as style statement, but ultimately a bag is for carrying stuff! The divided storage compartment makes organization easy. Inside you’ll find a large zippered pocket, a cell phone slip, a spacious media pouch, and a key-chain clip. That’s a lot of value packed inside one bag.

I love the look, but white bags make me stop and hesitate. I’m particularly concerned when, like this one, there are no feet to protect the pure white base. Scuffs, scrapes, and stains are all bound to show up on such a pristine surface before long, so if you’re looking for an everyday bag, this isn’t it. Yet if you’re after something to add that occasional wow factor, this pretty purse is an attractive proposition.

More Features of This Jessica Jensen Studded Tote

  • Suede lined interior
  • Magnetic closure
  • Dual handles with a 8 inch drop
  • Measures 14 x 14 inches

Law & Order: SVU Fan Solves Bag Theft Mystery

Posted on: Aug 28

A keen crime show fan has solved a New York robbery using the techniques she learned from NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

When a handbag, an iPod, and a wallet were stolen from a New York City production company, office worker Justine Faeth wondered, what would Detective Olivia Benson do? And so she returned to the crime scene and set about finding evidence.

It seems the robber had stopped to drink some water and blow his nose before departing the scene. Ms Faeth swooped down on the cup and tissue, and turned them in to the New York Police Department. The DNA obtained from the items was all the police needed to track the culprit down.

Ms Faeth’s efforts have seen her become a minor celebrity. She recently appeared on the Today show and received the ultimate reward, a phone call from her idol, Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay.
