The luxury handbags this season are predominantly black, leather, and have some sort of stud or chain embellishment. Partly this is due to a resurgence of 90’s styles – think Chanel Cavier bags with chain straps – and partly due to the fact that this season’s runway styles are also predominantly black, and pretty edgy. Which makes this Chloé bowling bag very of the moment.

But, besides looking great with the rest of fall fashion, the Kira has an air of timelessness. I mean, really, when is black NOT in style? What interests me about this bag is that it’s an edgy, luxurious take on a sporty classic. When I think of bowling bags, I think bright colors and, inevitably, stripes. Well, this bag borrows the bowling shape and makes it wearable for us less athletic types.

Wearable, and also practical. The huge size is actually big enough to hold a bowling ball, or basically anything else you might want to carry. The reinforced bottom means that, despite the suppleness of the leather, it won’t fall apart easily. The interior contains a zipper pocket, but that’s about it, and given its size, I wish it had more organizational options.

Looks-wise, the Kira is sleek and contemporary. But, it’s a little biggish for the shape, and I’m afraid that it might get awkward to carry when full. Also, the removable shoulder strap is super skinny, which looks great, but doesn’t bode well for your aching shoulders.

All in all, I like the Kira, but I don’t love it. It looks good, and strikes a good balance between sleek and sassy, but for me it just doesn’t make a bold enough statement.

It’s also nice to see the signature Tepper Jackson flair hidden on the colorful lining inside.

It might not suit pack rats or fans of Tepper Jackson’s quirkier accessories, but this dopp kit is an excellent choice for those looking for a classic cosmetics bag.

Many bagistas believe their favorite handbags are works of arts, but when it comes to Artist Handbags the description is pretty apt!

The hand-painted purses are the brainchild of Texan artists Joyce and Barbie J. “BJ” Moore. They’d been painters for years, but recently decided to apply their skills to fashion.

“This required quite a learning curve,” explained BJ. “We spent a great deal of time testing out special paints that wouldn’t crack on flexible, textured surfaces, picked up stacks of handbags to work with. After a great deal of research we’ve developed a blend of materials that allow us to create painted handbags that meet our artistic standards and have the durability to survive the rigors a purse normally endures on a daily basis.”

Their artsy acessories feature zebras, fish, hula girls, abstract designs, and much more. The designs are painted with leather-specific paints and finished with a protective coating to last the distance. Joyce and BJ paint their designs on Columbian leather purses, which are large enough to carry a laptop computer and plenty of other essentials.

“Our hand-painted purses are fun, intended to make you smile,” said Joyce. “Whichever one you choose, you’ll end up with a conversation-starter purse that lets you take your art wherever you go, smiling all the way.”

Marchesa is best known for its red carpet evening wear and Hollywood connections, and as the brand makes its first foray into accessories it seems designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are staying on point.

The twist? They’re adamant all bags fit everything you need for a night out: Blackberry, keys, and makeup.

“We were frustrated because we couldn’t find [an evening] bag to fit it all,” Craig told WWD. “These are timeless styles, and it was important that they be unique.”

They also wanted the bags to possibly open up their customer base.

“Some people don’t always have an occasion for a gown,” said Chapman. “You could wear these with jeans and a T-shirt.”

The line is made up of 28 clutches and cases with details reminiscent of evening gowns, like corsetry and pleating, which is no accident. The duo says they approached the design of the bags the same way they would a dress. Chapman describes draping box clutches with silk as she would a dress form.

The bags will be revealed at a September 16 presentation and will be available in department stores come spring.

It’s another case of billboard meets fashion. Similar to eco-friendly companies Artecnica and GG2G, the major retail store and budget fashionista-favorite Target is set to make a line of handbags from recycled billboard materials.

These aren’t just any ol’ billboard advertisements, however. The material will come straight from their upcoming ads in New York City’s Times Square. The billboards, which will remain in action from Labor Day to the end of October, feature graphic art by talented, upcoming artists Michael Anderson, Josh Goldstein, Laurie Rosenwald, and Charles Wilkin.

After the vinyl is removed from Times Square, it will then be crafted into one-of-a-kind, limited edition tote bags designed by current Target collaborator Anna Sui. The upcycled handbags will be 90% recycled billboard material with a few added details.

You won’t want to wait until they’re completed to make your purchase, though. Shoppers will be able to buy the tote bags beginning on September 4 at www.target.com/billboardbag while the ads are still up. You can even choose which artist’s work you want on your bag. Only 1,600 bags will be made, however, so you’ll have to get in on the action early.

These recycled billboard tote bags designed by Anna Sui will retail for an affordable $29.99 and will be shipped upon completion in early January.

Has anyone noticed any flying pigs as of late? I mean, really, if you had told me that Tory Burch’s fall accessories would be covered with fringe and pyramid studs, I never would have believed it. Nonetheless, here it is, and it’s not half bad.

Tory Burch is known for somewhat prissy, WASP-y styles, but her fall line is replete with boho and rocker edginess. The styles still have that old-world refinement, but with a little kick that I, for one, am digging.

This Studded leather bag is great example of the new look. The ultra smooth grained leather with immaculate front stitch detail is exactly what Tory is known for, and then she went and threw on this fabulous strip of shiny gold pyramid studs. Thank god, really, because this bag would be zzzzzzz boring without them! I especially like the stud detail on the straps. Nice touch, Tory.

That being said, the contrast between the smooth leather and the shiny studs is elegant enough that this bag comes off as slightly lighter than heavy metal. It’s more like a power ballad than a death metal track, if you get what I mean.

Luckily, this harder edged look still has all of the quality, and organizational details of Tory Burch’s usual designs. The interior contains a zipper pocket and two patch pockets, perfect for keeping all your stuff in its place. A hard rock sensibility meets blue blood practicality in this new shoulder bag by Tory Burch.

One thing I really like about Alexander Wang as a designer is that his collections are very small. His accessories collection is particularly small, consisting of only a few bags, but he gets every last one of them spot on perfect. What Wang lacks in quantity, he more than makes up for in quality.

The Max shoulder bag is one I am particularly lusting over because, well, do you see how many freaking pockets it has? I love that. Not only are all those pockets exceedingly practical, but they give the bag a fabulous, edgy vibe. I really like that the zippers are all burnished gold, instead of the shiny silver you would expect. It lends the Max an air of understatement.

The oversized fanny pack style is really interesting as a design concept, since towards the end of the fanny pack craze everyone was carrying them over their shoulders, anyways, it really makes intuitive sense. Plus, it gives the bag a tongue-in-cheeky sense of humor. Wang took something widely regarded as a major fashion mishap – the fanny pack – and made it the epitome of style. Of course, they were coming back, anyway, but Wang is really making a point of pushing the fanny pack to the forefront of fashion!

The buckle fastening shoulder strap is adjustable, so you can make it fit right in the nook of your waist, or if you’re feeling nostalgic, you could even hang it on your hips for an oversized 80’s look. Regardless of how you customize the Max, it’s got “Fall IT bag” written all over it.

I must be in the mood for weathered leather handbags. The Betsey Johnson Made In The Fade satchel recently caught my eye, and now this leather-like Steve Madden Rock Wash bag has me even more interested.

The Rock Wash’s finish might not be quite as laid-back, rocker-esque as some handbags out there, but it offers a decent imitation of the look. I would prefer if the material were real leather, but it doesn’t exactly come as a surprise considering the satchel’s hefty size combined with an under-$100 price tag.

Every area on the synthetic leather that looks distressed has been rubbed with a bronze color giving it just a hint of sheen. Don’t mistake it for a truly metallic purse as this one merely hints at the shiny finish. The Rock Wash bears more resemblance to a weathered and well-worn pair of jeans with a bronzey tint.

The silhouette of this Steve Madden satchel is somewhat structured, but the gathered pocket on the front creates an illusion of slouchiness. Although the double rolled handles seem to offer plenty of length for carrying the Rock Wash bag comfortably, you also have the option of attaching a longer, adjustable strap for a more a little more convenience.
