Burberry is known for its preppy outerwear and iconic plaid scarves. Its Prorsum line is a little bit less traditional, and tends to be hipper and more fashion forward. Unfortunately, this little Avelene clutch doesn’t really show what Prorsum is made of.

Is it my imagination, or does this clutch just look like a pencil case with the Burberry Prorsum logo on it? Let me answer that myself. No, it is not my imagination. It has basically the same measurements as a pencil case, the classic zip top, a little something thrown on the side for decoration …

So, what makes this a clutch and not a pencil case? Perhaps it’s the $375 price tag? I mean, they have to call it a clutch, because who in their right mind would spend that much to keep their pencils safe?

Besides its uncanny resemblance to a back-to-school accessory, this clutch is just not that interesting. The chocolate leather is a fine rich shade, and the whole shebang is nicely made, but I can’t help but shrug my shoulders and think, “Who cares?”

The signature check lining and frayed check tassel will surely attract die-hard Burberry fanatics, but frankly, I can’t see anyone else loving it. It’s a plain brown pen-er, clutch, with a logo on the side. Burberry, you’re going to have to do better than this if you want that iconic plaid to outlast the recession.

Lodis has taken a risk with this head-turning Sorrento wallet. However like many fashion risks, I’m not sure whether this succeeds.

The basic black leather finish is given a lift with metallic gold flecks. This pattern is complemented by the large golden buckle. Its pyramid turnlock gives the wallet an art deco feel, but is it just a little too much? I’m undecided whether Lodis have pushed the boundaries, or gone right outside them. There’s a change pocket on the back of the purse, which adds practicality but again raises the question of excess. The zip is super chunky, and with all those gold flecks it seems bling overkill to me.

The interior is much more reserved with its simple black leather lining. The design is simplistic but surprisingly functional considering its small stature. There’s a large currency slot and five credit card slips. That might not suit a serious day at the mall, but it’s entirely appropriate for everyday use.

I’m still not sure whether I like it, but the Sorrento’s fashion-forward looks are bound to win some fans. And at just $69, this wallet is affordable for stylistas living on a shoestring budget.

The annual Handbag Amnesty is on again, giving ordinary bagistas the chance to nab celebrity purses, and raise funds for cancer research at the same time.

Some of the world’s most stylish stars have donated bags from their private collections. You could own Paris Hilton’s own Paris Hilton handbag, Scarlett Johansson’s Anya Hindmarch tote, or Annie Lennox’s eco-friendly pop-top purse!

Handbag Amnesty is a partnership between fashion website handbag.com and Cancer Research UK. All profits raised will help benefit the cancer charity, which is the largest funder of breast cancer research in the United Kingdom. The initiative is part of the site’s Handbag Month, which takes place through September and culminates with the handbag auction from October 2 to 11.

Celebrities aren’t the only ones encouraged to part with their purses. Members of the public are also encouraged to donate their own unwanted bags to their nearest Cancer Research UK store. Everyone who donates a handbag will be entered in the draw for a Stella McCartney purse to replace the one they’ve given away!

Few fabrics evoke cooler weather like suede. The sumptuously soft leather may not be the most practical material, but its finish is hard to resist. Add some on trend buckles, and the Kooba Vanessa Tote is the height of fall fashion.

Suede does tend to show wear, especially on the corners, but the black color will help to hide the marks a little longer than most. If it still makes you nervous, the Vanessa is also available in regular grained leather. It’s not quite as eye-catching, but you’ll probably get a few more seasons from this traditional choice.

Before you make your selection, you may want to look at the features. This tote is jampacked with the kind of touches we love in an everyday bag. The front has four big pockets. Some have zips, while others simply flaps for easy access. There’s another zip running down each side, helping the Vanessa expand just a little wider. Packrats will love this feature, but personally I can’t imagine why you’d need it. This tote is enormous already! Thankfully it has the extras to back the size up. There are two slips for gadgets, and a larger zip pocket, and a key chain.

The rolled handles are long too so lugging this tote about, even if it is expanded and packed to the brim, shouldn’t be too painful. That should suit girls on the go, no matter what the weather.

I didn’t know Michael Kors was such a supporter of Broadway, but I guess I could’ve taken a hint from his fall/winter 2009 advertising campaign that brings his impeccable fashion to the famous NYC district.

I first saw this particular ad as I was flipping through one of my recent fashion magazines. I’ll admit that I didn’t put together the fact that the model was standing in a crowd on Broadway. Although some of the other shots from the campaign are a little more indicative of the location, this one just kind of looks like a movie premiere or other paparazzi favorite spot.

It doesn’t really matter to me where the model is, though, since the fashion stands out the most anyway. The model Carmen Kass cuts quite a figure in her Michael Kors sheath with large shades and roomy tote bag. The campaign was photographed by Mario Testino, whose resume also includes ads for Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, and the recent Burberry ads with Emma Watson.

All in all, I think these Michael Kor ads do a great job at showing off the designer’s goods. I wouldn’t call it the most creative concept I’ve seen this fall, but it’s classy and sophisticated. I can’t think of a better way to describe the designer himself.

Travel doesn’t always necessitate luxury style. Although I’m sure there are plenty of women who would disagree with that statement (mostly the ones that can’t travel without Louis Vuitton luggage), I think that plenty of others just want a practical but cute bag to get them through the airport or road trips.

When you want utter convenience without sacrificing style completely, LeSportsac bags are the way to go. This basic travel tote, predictably named Travel Tote, fits the bill on both accounts.

It just doesn’t get much more practical than a ripstop nylon handbag lined in nylon. I can’t think of many situations that it wouldn’t survive, unless you anticipate that your bag will go through a shredder or withstand high hurricane winds. Other than that, come stains, heavy wear-and-tear, and more, the Travel Tote is bound to last.

The interior is a cavernous space just waiting for your items. This bag’s exterior is equally helpful with its extra compartments. The shape is a standard tote rectangle until you unfold and raise the sunken zipper panel along the inside, which then allows you to store taller things and zip the bag on top.

Although the Travel Tote comes in many of LeSportsac’s most popular and colorful patterns, including polka dots and bicycles, this multi-colored stripe is quite cute and playful. The blend of colors are appealing and not too loud.

This travel bag retails for $98 and comes with a matching zippered cosmetic pouch.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs line runs the gamut from 70’s cute to sleek, minimal, and modern. This adorable leather tote epitomizes the 70’s side of Jacobs’ design style, but will definitely appeal to modern gals.

Jimmy Choo’s accessories have always been a little hit or miss to me. Sometimes he makes things that should seem over-the-top, like bright animal prints, others look positively elegant, and sometimes his line just plain bores me. Luckily, this bag falls into the first category.

The combination of disparate elements is really what wins me over on this one. Here on the Odetta, we have pony skin, electric blue leopard print, and elaphe snakeskin accents. It should be too much. But it looks just right to me. This bag achieves an extremely delicate balance, and the result is pure luxury.

The pale gold accents are toned down just enough to keep the bag from pouring over the edge of tastefulness. The rectangular shape of the bag is intersected with the Y-shaped harness detail, which breaks up the print of the pony skin, and keeps it from being too overwhelming.

The harness detail is also on the sides, and its prevalence gives the bag an edgy vibe. The only thing I don’t really like about this bag is the magnetic closure at the top. For a bag this size, I really feel like it should have a zipper, as little things may be prone to falling out.

Not that you’re going to be throwing this bag around a lot. At $3,295, it’s just a little too precious for that.

Kenneth Jay Lane has given the traditional envelope clutch a few contemporary tweaks with the Giza.

The traditional triangular flap and skinny profile is retained, but it’s the modern twists which make this more than just another envelope purse. The Giza takes its name from the pyramid shaped studs that dot its front. They’re big and bold enough to attract the eye, but by keeping the numbers down the feature doesn’t overwhelm the design. It’s a good thing too, because few things can compete with fuchsia. This electric pink hue is perfect for accessorizing with on-trend 80s retro fashions.

An envelope clutch never affords a lot of space, and at just half an inch thick the Giza is no exception. The patent leather is stiff and structured, so you can’t really squeeze any more than party essentials inside. One thing that does fit is the complimentary mirror, but that’s no use if there’s no space for carrying cosmetics!

This is a hot purse, but the decision to only release the Giza in fuchsia is a curious one. While this lurid pink suits the current passion for all things 80s, I’m not sure it’s got the staying power to take you to next season.
