I’m nearly as confused by the long name of this Hype handbag as I am by the look of it. To put it simply, there’s a lot to take in, but the concept and appearance are both worth a gander.

The Dylan Cross-Body Flap Hobo is what the mouthful of a name suggests: a handbag that functions as both hobo and cross-body. Hype accomplishes this by offering two carrying options. You can tote around the Dylan either on your shoulder with the single wrapped leather handle or with the detachable, adjustable longer strap that fits easily across the body.

As I appraised the overall look of the Dylan to decide just what to make of it, I realized that the design is a familiar one. This cross-body/hobo bag is very similar to the Hype Regina Hobo. In fact, it’s so similar that I’m not really sure why Hype bothered to give this one a different name.

The Dylan and the Regina, although slightly different in size, share the same strangely oversized front flap whose sides can either be folded out or in depending on your preference. The two Hype bags also have the exact same hanging tassel detail on the flap. The only main difference I can see is in price. Because of it’s slightly smaller size, the Dylan Cross-Body Flap Hobo retails for $275 making it slightly more affordable than the Regina.

This classic vintage evening bag looks a million dollars, but it definitely doesn’t cost it!

Like all the Coloriffics purses, this is one affordable number which doesn’t look like a budget bag. Satin is always an elegant choice, and the rhinestones near the silver frame make it look positively regal. These glittering diamantes can often appear a little tacky, but by keeping them on the top of the clutch we don’t overdose on the bling.

It’s a reasonably sized purse, so you should have no problems carrying your party survival kit inside. The zippered pocket is an unexpected touch, and one that’s much more useful than the slip pouches clutches typically have.

It may have a vintage vibe, but the tuck-away chain strap is a decidedly modern addition. It won’t be the most comfortable thing to wear with a strappy dress, but you’ll still be thankful for it when you want to hit the dance floor.

This gold purse is much subtler than many of its peers, but I can’t say the same for the brassy bronze. The rhinestone frame clutch is also available in silver and white.

Hermes Birkin bags are the ultimate status symbol, with serious waitlists to match serious prices. But the value of these precious purses is lost on Kim Kardashian’s new puppy Rocky!

The pet clearly needs to be toilet trained after he relieved himself upon Kim’s $6,500 accessory. The frustrated new mommy Tweeted her exasperation to fans.

“Rocky just peed on my new Birkin bag!!! I want to kill him! U have noooo idea how I feel right now! I know he’s a puppy but SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!” she ranted. “And why does he stare at me like he did nothing wrong! LOL I am not in a good mood right now.”

Oh those puppy dog eyes. I’m afraid that they couldn’t even melt me in this scenario. But perhaps he’s not entirely to blame. If I had my own Birkin, there’s no way that I’d leave it around for a young pup to find!

The Huarache shoulder bag from Cole Haan is one of those special purses that makes me look twice.

The style is simple enough, with its familiar triangular shape and structured design. The ivory shade too is nothing new. But the devil’s definitely in the details here. The scored motif almost resembles a starburst radiating from the center of the bag. It works with the tightly woven center strip to create a look which seems to take its cues from classic Mayan art. It’s like nothing I’ve seen in this season’s purses, which might just be why it works so well.

The ivory leather may not be the most practical choice, but at least Cole Haan hasn’t forgotten about functionality altogether. It’s described as a small purse, but that’s all relative these days. I could easily fit the things I need to get through the day inside, and while there wouldn’t be a lot of space to spare I think that’s all most women want. A zippered pocket and two open slips take care of our smaller items, leaving the rest of the room for a chunky wallet and sunglasses.

If you’re a little cautious about the white leather, don’t let that put you off. The Huarache shoulder bag is also available in a darker congo color scheme.

Notoriously quirky and whimsical fashion designer Jeremy Scott has a long history with French label Longchamp. After quite a few handbag collaborations in the past, Scott and Longchamp have teamed up yet again for a fresh take on the classic Le Pliage tote.

The new “Bone” Pliage is as unique as the designer himself, though perhaps a little more practical than his typically conceptual runway looks. The tote features a bright pink body covered in Flinstones-inspired bones just like the one you’d expect to see stuck through the high ponytail of the cartoon character Pebbles.

The unexpected print makes a lot of sense when you see what Jeremy Scott sent down the runway for his Spring 2010 show. With models strutting ripped and shredded brightly colored caveman attire, the inspiration for the catwalk seemed to be almost pulled straight from scenes from the beloved cartoon show. Bones just like the ones covering the new Longchamp Pliage handbag could be spotted on shoes as well as super-high ponytails.

This unconventional designer tote is currently available from French online retailer Colette for roughly $224.

Once again, Jessica Simpson proves that a stylish handbag doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. With clever texture and pretty details, this Metropolitan satchel might not be designer quality but is a great choice for picky shoppers on a budget.

Synthetic leather can often be a negative on a bag and show its fake quality when not utilized well. While fake leather can only ever be fake leather, interesting textures, sheen, or other effects can help to minimize its sometimes lackluster appearance.

That’s exactly how I feel about the Metropolitan’s exterior. Without the large-scale but extremely subtle crocodile texture that covers the bag, this Jessica Simpson design could have been a miss. With the print, however, this satchel takes a turn for the better.

The handbag’s details add to the pleasant effect as well. Buckled details on the handles and sides give the Metropolitan a classic look, while the contrast topstitching catches the eye. This mid-sized satchel is priced relatively well for a detailed satchel retailing at $108.

This quilted tote from affordable handbag designer Aldo is a great way to add a little extra something to a winter outfit.

Whilst the winter season makes most of us retreat into our dark winter coats and sensible boots, a handbag and some coordinating jewelry is a surefire step to making yourself stand out in a crowd.The chain may get a little cold in winter weather, but you should only have to take the long strap from your shoulder when absolutely necessary.

The quilted aspect adds to the warm winter look of this bright colored purse. It clearly isn’t up to the standard of Chanel, Gods of Quilting, but for $12 any sort of quilting is a nice touch. For it to look smart and only slightly misshapen is a complete bonus! I especially like the contrasting clasp with its slightly art deco styling. It’s surprisingly designer for something so cheap!

And sure, the materials aren’t that nice. The chain is thin and might break easily, the lining could fray, but for the money this Aldo baguette is a sound investment that should see you though those cold winter days.

People describe this spacious tote as “ferocious” and I think they are right!

This bag has eighties glamour written all over it, along with a touch of bad taste. Given the 80s trend sweeping the world at the moment, this makes for an incredibly fashionable purse by designers, Rampage.

So, where should I start?

First, the leopard print. Bold, bright, and warm, this pattern works brilliantly with browns or blacks but will easily clash. If this is the look you are going for then you will look great, especially considering the extra bonus of those glossy black studs. These studs are an interesting addition. They don’t quite fit in with the general theme or pattern of the bag, yet somehow manage to work. Add to this black trim, silver hardware and a helluva lot of attitude, and you are well on your way to epitomizing those heady 80s days!

Function wise, the space is brilliant in this chunky slouchy tote, as is the pretty contrasting aquamarine lining. You can fit as much as you could possibly need in it, and wear it straight through from morning until midnight. The handles are a little small for such a spacious design, so this may not be the most comfortable purse to carry.

All in all this is a funky and in-your-face bag with plenty of design features and even more daring.

Coach takes a break from its regular signature print purses with the Kyra clutch.

Rather than plastering the clutch with oversized Cs, Coach has opted for plain leather. This seafoam shape is so delicate and fresh, but you can also find it in fun berry pink and subtle white and cream tones.

The matte color and simple shape wouldn’t be so interesting on their own, so Coach adds a few embellishments. I love the elegant V-shaped pleat in the front of the clutch, but the less said about that printed scarf the better. It just seems so unnecessary, and I’m glad it’s easily removed.

This is a fairly large clutch purse, but the open and zip pockets do their best to keep things organized. I’m glad such a sizable clutch comes with a removable wrist strap, as carrying it the old fashioned way for an entire evening could become tiresome. But we really need something more secure than the magnetic snap if we’ll have the Kyra dangling from our wrist.

The Kyra isn’t the most awe-inspiring clutch you’ll ever see, but it’s a lot more attractive than most of the purses we see from Coach.
