French luxury handbag brand Lanvin is celebrating its 120th anniversary with the release of two commemorative postage stamps.

The limited edition stamps, which will be sold through French Post outlets, are designed by the label’s artistic director, Alber Elbaz. You might remember his colorful illustrations from the Gourmet 22 Faubourg tote bag released earlier this year. Collectors can buy the stamps in packs bearing the brand’s famous mother and daughter logo. They’ll be available, along with three limited edition Lanvin ceramic hearts, early next year. What an adorable idea to send to those you love who are far away!

Parisian Lanvin lovers can indulge a little earlier though. Later this month commemorative Lanvin pencils, paper presses, and notebooks will be sold at the post office on Rue des Mathurins. The post office will also create an online Lanvin store on its website, helping fashion fans around the globe join in on the fun.

This is a much more sophisticated offering than most Emilio Pucci purses. The plexi-plastic bangle with its colorful retro design is the only hint of the designer’s typically flamboyant style.

Emilio Pucci lovers will adore this vibrant bangle, but it may take a little more to convince the rest of us. While the shades aren’t as shocking as they might be, their 80s retro vibe contrasts with the purse’s old Hollywood feel. Thankfully it detaches for a much cleaner look, and a fun accessory for later.

Metallics can so often look brassy, but not here. The silver silk gleams elegantly, falling softly in all the right places. At least, it does in the photo. I’m a little worried that such a flimsy fabric may show lumps and bumps if your purse isn’t packed just right. And since the purse is so narrow, it might be difficult to pack it like a pro.

Still, I’d almost be willing to worry about that little niggle later if not for the price tag. Silk is a fairly inexpensive fabric, and plastic doesn’t break the bank either, so Emilio Pucci has a hide charging almost $1000 for this after-five accessory.

Alexander Wang isn’t the only hip, young designer label to be launching an e-commerce site these days. Although Proenza Schouler is getting in on the game a little later than Wang, who opened his own online shopping website section earlier this fall, I’m guessing that this new site will be equally popular.

“We do most of our shopping online,” say Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler, “and we suspect our girl does, too.”

Proenza Schouler’s new e-commerce plans, however, are to start small and gradually expand to more of their collections. For now, only a handful of items are available online at ProenzaSchouler.com. The small collection available now includes bags, wallets, and key chains.

“Every collection, we design small accessories that often don’t make it to the stores,” they say. “Now we can sell a selection of them exclusively online.“

You’ll have to get in on the action quickly, though. There is only a limited amount of these exclusive items available.

From the real deal to this synthetic version, just about every brand is getting in on the action. Though the Eclipse won’t offer the kind of quality you’d get from Carlos Falchi’s Box Clutch, I think Big Buddha did a great job with this handbag.

Interesting design features like the triangular shape, front cutout tab closure, and slightly raised texture of the print stand out on their own and take away from the “faux”-ness of the material. The metallic sheen brings attention to the texture and adds to the visual interest. You can also get the Eclipse in metallic bronze, copper, or a simple brown color, but this silvery gun metal is my personal favorite.

Tignanello adds yet another versatile everyday bag to its functional Touchables range.

As with all purses in this range, the belt is the focal point that attracts users attention. As well as adding an element of extra functionality to the purse by making the size and tension adaptable, buckles are always a fashionable and attractive addition. The fact that the hardware does actually coordinate continues the red theme throughout and completes the look.

Of course, a totally red bag could be a little overpowering, although it is very suitable for the dark winter months. Thankfully the designers seem to have clicked onto this fact, and break up the solid color with contrasting decorative stitching. This makes the look sophisticated and subtle rather than completely in-your-face. In addition, the lining is completely different in a rather unexpected subtle rainbow striped pattern. This breaks it up and actually makes this interior interesting to look at.

With long but thin functional handles, leather trimmed interior pockets and a decent amount of space, this is the useful but slightly dull purse every wardrobe needs.

A British Cancer Research shop is hoping to raise more than a thousand pounds, after an anonymous donor dropped off a genuine Louis Vuitton handbag.

The generous soul didn’t leave her name with the Bedford High Street store staff, but she did mention there may be something valuable inside her sack of donations. That’s putting it mildly!

“We opened it and it looked very different to the other Louis Vuitton handbags we’ve had in previously that have been counterfeit,” explained Scott Armbruster from Cancer Research UK. “We went to Bond Street eventually and had it valued and they gave it a value of £1,400.”

The charity were originally planning to sell the bag for a little over £900, but struggled to attract a buyer in their small town. Now they plan to turn to eBay in an attempt to find a buyer for the designer bag. It’s not listed yet, but make sure you check back with the Cancer Research UK eBay store if you want to take the purse off their hands!

Louis Vuitton Bags on eBay

Few things will brighten up a gloomy winter day as easily as Elie Tahari’s Emma tote. In vibrant sunshine yellow, it’s the perfect anecdote to gray weather.

At first glance all you see is the color, but on closer examination we begin to appreciate the finer details. The buttery-soft leather falls in billowing balloonesque pleats. These soft gathers contrast with the tightly scrunched top. The intricately braided straps add a little extra interest, while the gold-toned metal centers dress things up. I love the look, but the metal probably won’t be as kind to your hands as leather might. Notice I said hands. Unless you’re built like Kate Moss, you probably won’t be able to fit this purse over your shoulder. It’s a shame too, because a couple more inches would have made all the difference.

While the ample size doesn’t really mesh with those short straps, at least we aren’t left wanting for storage space. The generous interior is well appointed, with a combination of slip and zip pockets designed to take care of your loose change and girly gadgets. While the open top design makes access easy, the soft base has me worried. I can just imagine my essentials falling out the moment I set the Emma down.

While the bold yellow color is exactly what caught my eye, it won’t please everybody. It’s a shame Elie Tahari didn’t offer a few classic options for more conservative types, but confident chickas won’t mind one bit.

This is the perfect lighthearted satchel for girls who don’t want to shell out lots on a bag to have fun with.

A long shoulder strap would be a welcome addition to this purse. The handles as they stand, whilst in a nicely coordinating pink, are a little impractical. Instead of slinging this bag casually over your shoulder you have to carry in in your hand, rather reducing the situations in which it would be useful.

It’s not the first time someone has attempted to define women by the type of handbag they carry, and I’d be willing to bet it’s nowhere close to being the last. However, this new version of “What Your Handbag Says about You” from Luxist.com is a little more about personality than fashion taste.

From shoulder bags to oversized totes, this mini-guide to bag preferences and their implications isn’t entirely flattering in some categories. For example, women who choose designer labels “enjoy the finer things in life (and want others to know it).” Yikes. What about the women who can simply afford the best quality? Also according to Luxist, those who carry knock-offs just might not be entirely true to themselves all the time.

That might be a bit of a stretch, but I can at least agree on some of the other categories such as shoulder bags possibly implying that someone has a practical nature or that an everyday clutch carrier might be the carefree, jet-setter type.
