Nicole MacDonald launched her environmentally friendly and socially responsible women’s handbag label Bagonia in 2008. It wasn’t long before she realized men love bags almost as much, and Birch was born.

Both brand’s use a combination of organic and reclaimed materials and vegan leathers in all its handbags. Each purse comes with what Nicole calls “eco-fittings.” Every one has as a secret compartment with three reusable grocery bags inside, and many have detachable clutch purses and easy-wash removable interiors.

With her designs Nicole aims to prove that “the overall stereotype that being eco-friendly has a certain look or applies to a type of person is just not true.”

With its bike handle attachments, Bagonia’s newest bag had to be called the Cycle-Chic. It’s not just a stylish carrying accessory. It also looks to promote cycling as a green alternative to driving.

Vegan Leather Bags on eBay

Jalda has created a classic bag with retro flair in the Aida.

While it’s available in many fabrics, my favorite is this goat leather. The pleats around the top only accentuate just how soft this skin is. The structured frame design, round rolled handles, and bold colors help give the purse its playful vintage vibe.

The color continues inside, with vibrant aqua bengaline lining. This satiny fabric feels lovely, so it’s always a treat to fish items out of! The roomy space comes equipped with slip and zip pockets to keep everything in order.

We’re given the option of carrying the two rolled handles or slinging the chain strap over our shoulder. That versatility sounds good in theory, but I’m not sure about the execution. The chain strap isn’t removable, so when you’re in the mood for carrying the handles it swings aimlessly. The handles are fairly lengthy too, so most people could carry them over their shoulder anyway. That makes me wonder, why add the chain strap in the first place? Leaving it off, or even making it detachable, would have resulted in a much cleaner look and a far lighter bag.

I love the fun color range, with rich purple, red, and azure blue all available. Jalda knows some girls prefer to play it safe though, so the Aida is also available in basic black.

If you are fed up with over the top bags and purses, than this cute yet simple little canvas wristlet from Ellington may be just what you need.

Sure, it isn’t the most exciting purse in the store, but this canvas purse is delicately decorated, fulfills its function, and is downright earthy and wholesome in appearance. This is perfect for people who need a handbag but don’t necessarily want one; it is a happy medium between the two.

The blue and brown is a combination that we are starting to see more and more frequently at the moment, whilst the little white pattern looks cute and vaguely tribal. All in all this is a cute yet quiet little bag. It isn’t inspiring, but it will probably come in handy; especially for only around $27.

Iconic American brand Pendleton has joined forces with man bag label Property Of … to create a new collection of men’s accessories.

The Oregon-based brands have been inspired by their home state, calling their limited edition line Portland Guy. The collaboration aims to show each company’s commitment to “quality, practicality, and reliability.”

The messenger-style murses are made from 100% Pendleton wool accentuated with leather and suede. The wide nylon straps are completely adjustable and fitted with a leather centerpiece for comfortable carrying.

I love the blue and black suede plaid here, but I’m less convinced by the combination of black and tan trim. Using a darker color throughout would have given this bag, and the others in the range, a much more unified look.

Men can choose one of five colors for $250. You can snag one at selected Bloomingdale’s stores across America or online at the A Continuous Lean Shop.

This is one of those purses whose looks are delightfully deceiving. The textured surface looks like lizard, but it’s really embossed synthetic. Few exotic imitations are this convincingly done; I wouldn’t be surprised if it fooled a few luxury fanatics! But by opting for synthetic rather than the real deal, this chic purse costs just $85.

The basic trapezoid design is modern, but timeless in its simplicity. Lift up the flap closure to see the generous fabric lined interior. It’s a bit chunkier than most evening bags, and so long and tall you can probably pack a few luxuries inside.

The matching synthetic shoulder strap is a welcome change from those unforgiving chain handles. After an evening of hands-free carrying, your shoulders will be grateful! You don’t need to clutter up the inside of your purse if you prefer to carry your clutch the old fashioned way either. Just detach the strap before you step out!

The Mary clutch is available in a decent range of conservative colors. While something a little bolder might have been fun, black, white, navy, cognac, and taupe are sure to stay in style for seasons to come.

Ed Hardy sure knows how to make a mom feel like a rockstar. Like any other bag from the label, this Luella diaper tote is anything but frumpy and mom-ish with its tattoo-inspired prints and details.

This is the sort of diaper bag that can work double duty as both practical baby gear and everyday handbag due to its exterior. The look certainly isn’t for everyone, which goes for most of the brand’s other designs as well, but it’s perfect for moms who like to dress and accessorize with a little more edge than most.

The Luella features a patent synthetic material that seems like the sort of exterior that could stand up to spills and a decent amount of daily wear and tear. Snakeskin-print detail on the handles and even the zipper pull on the back pocket complements the tattoo design on the front of the bag. Lace-up sides add to the handbag’s vibe.

Despite this diaper tote’s obvious attempt to stray from the expected, Ed Hardy still provided some very convenient features such as double side pockets, a changing pad, a zippered pouch for wipes and other small baby necessities, and a bonus tote bag for good measure.

Kate Spade keeps things a little more demure than normal with this nautical striped demi-bag.

Although the style is still undeniable vintage, this bag is perfect for sailor-inspired outfits and subtle combinations, rather than for bright in-your-face pops of color. The unusual combination of navy, white and tan, however, does help to set it apart from the crowd.

The wonderful brown leather trim to this nylon Hanover bag is perhaps my favorite feature. In such a contrasting shade it stands out brilliantly from the background, creating a square frame with an interestingly art deco vibe. There is also the added bonus that tan always looks smart and elegant, giving the Emmalee a sense of refinement absent in many fun Kate Spade purses.

When you look beneath the stripey exterior, you get a dull beige glossy lining and some functional pockets; as well as decent space. Even better, as this satchel is cross body, meaning you can actually carry quite a lot of stuff as you will have the shoulder support. Perfect!

All in all this pretty nautical purse will keep you going from summer thru winter, and whilst it isn’t the most mind-blowing bag on the shelf it should still treat you well!
