Whilst there are plenty of brilliant and fashionable bowlers on the market, it seems that sometimes we forget that these bags were really designed to be functional and perfect for transporting all your sports equipment.

This Fred Perry bowler goes back to basics, with a traditional pattern and notable lack of embellishments. It is also astoundingly cheap with discounts as low as $28, and as such you can lug it around everywhere without a care, slinging it happily though mud and even occasionally dropping it in the pool.

Even though this sporty striped bowler is about as traditional as it gets, you do at least get to enjoy the slightly unusual elongated shape. Sure is isn’t Da Vinci, but having a slightly good looking sports bag is always better than having an ugly one.

Inside this is nothing special; just a purse that does what it says on the tin. Functional and spacious, this doesn’t fiddle around with complicated compartments; everything just gets stuffed in to be sorted when you get back home!

All in all this is a basic but useful Fred Perry purse, perfect for nipping to the gym or packing full of your kids’ swim gear.

Luxury and exclusive handbag label Bally may have just managed to make itself even more desirable with this $795 Alunina tote.

Hot pink, when done well, can actually be one of the most sophisticate, yet individual, colors on the market. It can actually look great in more formal situations, where anything other than black is unexpected. As this large tote is quilted, it is instantly classy and mature, so the bright shade works perfectly.

Whilst the handle is a little small for those who actually want to load a tote like this to the top, the small size looks great. I know that fashion shouldn’t ignore practicality, but I find the wide base works just right with the dual handles. That said, I must hold my hands up and admit to being completely and irrevocably in love with this incredibly expensive bag. One day I dream of owning this!

Inside, class is the name of the game, and the multiple patent trimmed compartments and pockets show you just where your money goes. This is sublime, and hugely luxurious.

Achieve a glammed up look for less with this Rose Clutch from Jessica McClintock.

Almost everything about this purse screams luxury. There’s the shimmering satin body, the sweeping pleats, and the perfectly formed rosette. And that’s just the exterior. The satiny lining is similarly decadent. You can understand why I was shocked to see the $30 price tag!

Of course though, a few design shortcuts have been taken. There’s a lot more space inside than you’d expect in this price bracket, but we don’t have the organizational features to support it. It might be tricky to keep the clutter at bay, but at least the magnetic snap will keep your girly goods safe.

The braided fabric strap also looks a little cheaper than a chain might have, but I’m not convinced it’s a bad thing. It’s a lot softer on the shoulders than the metal alternative, and in a dark party or the theater no one’s going to notice the quality.

Rose purists may prefer the red purse, but I love the more demure look of this purple purse. It’s no shy violet, but still undeniably elegant.

We can also choose between a medium strap for over-the-shoulder carrying and a much longer one for cross-body wear. It’s such a simple idea, but not one I can remember seeing before. It might be a black hobo handbag, which can sometimes equal simple and boring, but this Steve Madden Sophisticate purse has some interesting design qualities that make it better than your average basic hobo.

The standout feature on the Sophisticate is the row of pleats across the front of the handbag. The detail adds the illusion of structure and form to an otherwise fairly slouchy hobo. It also saves the bag from looking overly casual or just plain boring.

Unfortunately, as with many handbag designs in this affordable under $100 price range, the pretty feature does not continue to the back of the Sophisticate. I can’t blame Steve Madden for focusing on the front and keeping the cost down by keeping the back simple, but it’s still a slight negative in my opinion.

Also adding to the affordability of this hobo is the lack of real leather. The synthetic material is a decent alternative, though it might not be the quality that some prefer. The Sophisticate converts from short-handle handbag to slightly more convenient shoulder bag with the detachable strap. This pleated purse retails for $88.95.

Model Jamie Bochert is at it again with yet another spring/summer 2010 designer ad campaign. After a perfectly posed Marc Jacobs photo shoot involving a toilet seat, this first look at the Lanvin ad seems quite different.

The overall vibe is still just as offbeat and slightly surreal as the model’s work for Marc Jacobs, but the campaign is anything but posed. In complete contrast, this advertising campaign is full of movement captured on camera.

Famed fashion photographer Steven Meisel caught Jamie’s rather frenetic looking motion shots that Lanvin’s artistic director Alber Elbaz wanted for the campaign. Elbaz commented on the results:

I thought maybe we need a bit of action. She moved so fast, even the chandelier was moving with her.

She’s also moving so fast that we can hardly tell who it is modeling the Lanvin goods. At least the products are on full display, though. The campaign is definitely different, but it does give us a decent look at a few pieces from the collection including a couple of pretty handbags.

The Chicago Cross-Body is a perfect example of convenience meets style. It might not be the most cutting edge design with the trendiest of details, but it’s a far cry from nylon totes with black zippers.

With its soft pebbled leather, a signature of B. Makowsky’s bags, the Chicago is quite sophisticated. When combined with topstitching detail and the bright, silver-toned accents, the look is almost quite posh. The pretty hardware consists of a long chain link strap with a leather shoulder piece for comfort, the rings that connect the strap to the bag, and the clasp closure on the front of the bag.

Party bags just got a whole lot more aggressive with this studded purse from handbag designer Rafe.

Punked up biker chic attitude is what this pint-sized preener is all about. From the obviously beautiful textured gold sequins, through to the variety of studs, this harks back to the wonders of yesteryear, with a distinctly eighties vibe.

Despite it looking great, I do wish that Rafe had decided to opt for simple patent leather rather than the textured, gently wrinkled kind. Personally I think that would have kept the look cleaner, although you may not agree.

Whilst the inside could be more exciting, this is a cute and functional wristlet for those of us who don’t need to carry the kitchen sinks on nights out!

It has been a long weekend, and I felt like I needed something other than copious amounts of chocolate to cheer me up. As such, this Sondra Roberts smile tote was exactly the dose of fun and giggles that my tired little brain needed.

The smile image is iconic, seen around the world in hundreds of different forms: T-shirts, desktops, and now handbags. There is something about that cheeky grin and yellow face that makes even the grumpiest people crack out a smile; and what more could you wish for in the dark miserable winter weather?

That said, this patent purse isn’t one of those seasonal bags; the logo has been around for so long that I would image it could survive a good few fashion seasons being both brilliantly in, and terribly out of, fashion! A little bit geeky, this bag is full of cheery nerd chic that can look fabulous when done right!

Of course patent and bright yellow isn’t a subtle combination, and if you want to go unnoticed you should probably leave this in the closet. Or, perhaps, you could just wear it in reverse, with the face hidden. That way it is just a simple spacious black patent tote; functional but nothing more. Now how is that for fun loving versatility!
