Lucky Brand Batik Windmill Runway Bucket Bag | Colorful Canvas Printed Purse

Posted on: Jan 8

We’ve drooled over Lucky Brand’s lovely neutral purses, including the musically influenced Abbey Road and Rockin’ Ruffles. But now the brand shows us its brighter side with the Batik Windmill Runway Bag.

The natural canvas body is jazzed up with a colorful, almost psychedelic windmill print. Purples, yellows, greens, and blues are mottled together to create the eye-catching print. Suede strips in complementary tones of brown and purple trim the top and base, framing the windmill pattern. We see the purple again in the shoulder strap, which while not luxurious, does look comfortable in woven fabric.

That’s just the start of the strap’s story though. It’s completely adjustable, so you can wear it short as a shoulder bag or extend it for a cross-body purse.

The bucket-shaped interior is roomy with the practical features to match. One zippered pocket and a couple of slip pouches are almost standard these days, but by providing the basics Lucky Brand has delivered just what we need. And remember, there’s another open pouch outside if we want more storage space.

The canvas body sees this Batik Windmill Runway Bag priced more affordably than its all-leather Lucky Brand siblings. You can get yours for $139.

More Features of This Lucky Brand Printed Purse

  • Zip top closure
  • Gold-toned hardware
  • An adjustable single strap with a 12 to 22 inch drop
  • Measures 17 x 14 x 6.5 inches

Prada Gives New Face Rasa Zukauskaite Spring 2010 Advertising Campaign

Posted on: Jan 8

While many designer labels clamor for the talent of supermodels Kate Moss and Claudia Schiffer, and even pop stars like Lily Allen and Madonna, Prada prefers to cast fresh faces in its advertising. The brand’s spring 2010 campaign is no exception, with Lithuanian beauty Rasa Zukauskaite taking center stage.

Or at least, she would have the limelight were she not wearing those lovely Prada fashions. While a big name might have stolen focus here, this Prada advertisement allows us to notice what’s really important. The monochrome shift dress says spring with an edge, and it’s the perfect foil for that edgy transparent clutch.

With so many labels favoring a burst of color to welcome spring, it’s invigorating to see Prada trying something new. You’ve got to hand it to star photographer Steven Meisel. He’s shot so many of these Prada campaigns, yet he always manages to give us a look that’s fresh.

Luba J Chloe Tote Bag | Modern Black Leather Studded Handbag

Posted on: Jan 8

Luba J brings a little modern edge to the traditional quilted tote with the Chloe.

When so many designers opt for a classic diamond quilting, Luba J does the unexpected and gives us stitched boxes. It’s more edgy than elegant, especially with round and riveted square stud accents in the mix. It’s not as outrageous as it might be though; the basic black and charcoal gray tones make sure of that.

The front looks fab, with quilting around the base and the lushly decorated flap pocket. That only makes the basic back more of a letdown. The leather is lovely, but it really needs something to jazz it up.

At least Luba J gives us a little more inside. It’s a generous purse; not oversized but a little wider than the average to accommodate a thick novel or chunky wallet. The basketweave lining looks so strong, I’m sure it’s up to regular use for seasons to come.

And with the tote priced at $780, that guarantee of longevity helps make it easier to part with the cash.

More Features of this Luba J Leather Tote

  • Zipper closure
  • Dual shoulder straps with a 7.5 inch drop
  • Measures 14 x 16.5 x 4 inches
  • Made in the United States

Anya Hindmarch to Design for Legendary British Brand Barbour

Posted on: Jan 7

She’s got quite a following for her deliciously luxurious handbags and unique style sensibility, but Anya Hindmarch is branching out a bit and trying her hand at something a little different these days.

We’ve just found out that the designer, who has done everything from collaborating with Target for a diffusion line and creating that oh-so-recognizable “I’m Not a Plastic Bag” tote, will be working on a small project with the well-known British fashion brand Barbour. Barbour’s collections include clothing for men, women, and children as well as handbags and accessories.

Surprisingly, however, it’s not a line of bags that Anya Hindmarch is set to work on for the label. Instead, the designer is stepping out of her normal fashion zone and trying her hand at ladieswear. She’ll be working with Barbour to create a small collection of outerwear jackets for the brand.

Barbour is an iconic British brand and part of my childhood. The feel and smell of a Barbour waxed jacket is something that evokes home, family and country weekends. I can’t wait to have mine so I can look less like a ‘pavement girl’ in the country,” Anya told Grazia yesterday.

No word yet on when the range will be released. We can rest assured, though, that with this designer’s talent, it’s sure to be stylish and maybe just a bit out of the ordinary.

B. Makowsky Atlantis Shopper | Leather Satchel with Multiple Buckles

Posted on: Jan 7

I almost might have guessed that this was a Treesje handbag if I hadn’t seen the B. Makowsky label first. Although Treesje’s style tends to be a tad edgier than B. Makowsky’s, the details on this Atlantis shopper do remind me a little of the label’s signature look.

The main feature that gives the Atlantis a bit of edge is the double layer of belted leather straps that wrap around the exterior. The buckled and knotted detail definitely adds some personality to this purse.

The straps are not the only aspect of this B. Makowsky bag that accomplish that, however. Some interesting topstitching throughout the body of the bag, exterior side pockets with a pleated flap, and sleek silver-toned hardware also give the Atlantis a contemporary twist.

This shopper version of the design retails for $298, but a larger tote is also available for about $20 more. Personally, I prefer the rectangular shape of the shopper, though there are occasions that call for a bag with a tad more height. The divided interior makes this satchel as practical as it is pretty.

More Features of the Atlantis Shopper

  • Measures 16.5 x 12 x 4.5 inches
  • Double handles with 10 inch drop
  • Leather material
  • Signature leopard print lining

Rioni Roushe The Flutter Bag | Delicate Snow Inspired Shoulder Bag

Posted on: Jan 7

With snow affecting people around the world, this delicate flutter bag seemed the very best thing to complement it.

People may well be fed up with the constant layers of thick white, but that doesn’t have to extend to fashion. A thick wool coat and delicate white bag are what working winter fashion is really all about. This Rioni Rouche shoulder bag is my favorite; not only is it a pure, crystalline white, but the flutter ruffles remind me of lightly falling snow!

Of course, white isn’t practical. Like snow, a few weeks or days hard wear and it may be reduced to a strange gray color. If you look after it and waterproof it you can avoid this, but that is often too much hassle for people. You must remember, however, that a fresh blank canvas like this is the perfect place to let your creativity run wild. Why not take the opportunity and jazz it up with some brooches, clasps and colors?

The tan interior isn’t exactly the color I would have chosen for a rich winter bag, especially one that has such delicate cut out layers on the outside. I must admit that it is more practical than keeping it monochrome throughout, though! Plus, the felt is soft and great for a slouchy bag.

Perfect for wading through snow drifts and combining with thick scarves, this slightly impractical purse is gorgeous but expensive at $360.

More Features of this Delicate The Flutter Bag

  • Only available in snowy white
  • Multiple exterior layers of cutout leather
  • Tan felt interior
  • Reinforced single handle

Louis Vuitton Suhali L’Ingenieux PM Bag | Plain Brown Goatskin Vintage Satchel Handbag

Posted on: Jan 7

As prominent logos are falling out of favor, a bag like the Louis Vuitton L’Ingenieux becomes an appealing proposition.

With its plain brown surface and fairly traditional shape, this is an easy bag to pass over. In fact, no matter what its name suggests there’s very little ingenuity applied here. But when so many Louis Vuitton handbags are covered in that time-honored brown and tan signature print, there’s also something refreshing about the L’Ingenieux’s simplicity.

The surface may be basic brown, but there’s nothing boring about it. This is high quality goatskin, shining in its natural state without chemical treatments. That back-to-basics approach makes the goatskin extra supple and durable. It makes you wonder why designers don’t do it more often!

The luxury skin is enhanced with antique brass hardware, with a polished gilding finish for extra luster. The vintage-inspired S-lock closure, the Viennese clasp inside, and the engraved LV studs on the base are the little touches which remind us this is a luxury purse.

But of course, those luxury touches come with a luxury four-figure price tag. You wouldn’t expect anything else from Louis Vuitton, would you?

More Features of This Louis Vuitton Goatskin Bag

  • Zip pockets at each end
  • Tinted edges and contrast stitching
  • Dual rolled handles
  • Measures 12.5 x 6 x 8 inches

Luxury Handbags Still Popular in Asia, Bag Lovers in the West Shun Designer Labels

Posted on: Jan 7

New research has confirmed what many fashion fans have suspected: designer labels are falling out of favor in the West, but are as popular as ever in Asia.

The research from Synovate shows 68% of fashion fans in Hong Kong prefer a brand name item such as Prada or Louis Vuitton. They look for prominent logos which help prove an item is a designer original rather than a cheaper counterfeit.

The Chinese want people to know that they’ve got the real thing, and it’s not a fake,” explained Synovate’s chief executive, Jill Telford.

The survey’s authors said the Chinese also used designer labels to show their success to others. And it appears other eastern nations may be following their lead. Designer brands were also popular amongst 79% of Indians and 58% of those in the United Arab Emirates.

In contrast, only 36% of respondents in America and 33% in the United Kingdom said they preferred luxury labels.

Lovcat Mirror Reflection Wristlet | Retro Red Patent Purse with Heart Accent

Posted on: Jan 7

This cute Mirror Reflection wristlet from Lovcat is the ideal way to make any outfit pop.

The glossy patent leather surface gives this purse a real retro feel. The shiny finish is accented with black contrast stitching and a black heart-detailed buckle. Some girls may long for some more color choices, but I can’t imagine a snappier combo than red and black.

The finish may be shiny, but it’s no mirror. That makes the name a bit of a misnomer, especially as there’s no mirror tucked away inside either. Don’t pick up this purse if you hope to use it to touch up your lipstick!

The detachable leather strap sees this classified as a wristlet, but its design is much closer to a wallet. Four credit card slots won’t be nearly enough to satisfy serious shoppers, but you can store the rest in the storage slots or bill fold. There’s also a coin pocket inside, which is kept secure with a heart-accented zip.

At $129, this Mirror Reflection purse isn’t the cheapest wristlet around, but its high quality craftsmanship and bubbly personality will stand you in good stead for many years to come.

More Features of This Lovcat Patent Leather Wristlet

  • Closes with a magnetic snap
  • Signature Lovcat heart print lining
  • Measures 7.5 x 1 x 4.5 inches

Win a Halston Foxy Envelope Clutch Bag with Hammered Gold Hardware from The Outnet Competition

Posted on: Jan 6

Halston is one of those brands that you really can’t go wrong with. Though the label is probably best known for long, flowy and feminine gowns, the handbags are definitely something worth talking about.

For example, this Halston Foxy Clutch is everything I picture when I think of the designer: timeless yet modern but with a little vintage glamour and sophistication added in. That might sound slightly contradictory, but this handbag somehow wraps it all up in one very pretty little package.

If Halston’s style fits your taste, in particular the Foxy Clutch, you’ll be excited to hear about the latest giveaway from The Outnet, Net-a-Porter’s sister site with a penchant for offering designer goods at clearance prices. The online store is granting one winner the thin, envelope-style Foxy, worth a whopping $995, in light brown with a hammered gold, logo-engraved plate on the front.

All entries must be submitted at The Outnet’s giveaway sweepstakes page by January 19 at midday (EST). Be sure to read through the website’s terms and conditions for the contest before entering.
