Nancy Gonzalez pairs her signature crocodile with python here to dazzling effect.

The tan colored python is more sophisticated than many snake prints I’ve seen of late. It makes a real statement amongst the on-trend vibrant purples and pinks, one which says “I am a woman who favors timeless elegance over fads.” It may be a classic choice, but don’t think it’s staid. The combination of python and tan Caiman fuscus crocodile trim could never be boring.

By keeping the styling simple, Nancy Gonzalez ensures her precious skins shine. There’s something vintage about the even, vertical pleats, flared satchel shape, and frame top.

The luxury continues inside with the soft suede lining and handy side pockets. There’s ample room for daytime essentials and a few luxuries besides, although I’d probably save this baby for after five wear. While metal feet on the base help to protect the fragile python, you’ll still need to handle this purse with care.

The combination of authentic python and crocodile will never come cheaply, so fashion fans shouldn’t be too surprised by the $2680 price tag. If you’ve got the money to spare though, this beautiful Nancy Gonzalez purse should serve you well.

Brazilian accessories brand Carmen Steffens is the latest fashion house to support the relief efforts in Haiti. The label has been donating 50% of its U.S. online sales to the Red Cross Haitian Relief and Development Fund.

“The devastation in Haiti is so terrible,” said Mark Willingham, president of Carmen Steffens’ U.S. initiatives. “We knew we had to quickly find a way to contribute to the time-sensitive rescue needs and relief efforts. And, our customers have really responded in a positive fashion. Their incredible support truly demonstrates the size of their hearts.”

It’s so inspiring to see the fashion world banding together to make a difference after such a terrible tragedy. While the people of Haiti are suffering, it’s clear the quake’s effects have been felt the world over. Carmen Steffens’ fundraising efforts end on the 20th, so there’s still a little time to help out, and pick up a cute purse at the same time.

Nahui Ollin delivers a fun everyday bag, without compromising its signature candy wrapper look, with the Around Town satchel.

Of course, Nahui Ollin likes to tell us every bag from its collection will suit everyday use. However, this one does a little more to convince me than most. The leather patches in the corners help to strengthen the woven candy wrappers that are the brand’s trademark. I’m not sure about the look, which seems more clunky than retro, but the practical appeal is compelling.

We see leather used again in the shoulder straps. I appreciate how it turns the chains into comfortable handles, but true greenies may not be so keen. The use of the cow-hide does seem at odds with the brand’s eco-friendly stance. I can forgive it for the functionality it adds, but many won’t be so merciful.

The extra space the Around Town affords, and of course the use of luxury leather, makes this Nahui Ollin more expensive than many in the brand’s collection. You can find it for $210 in a variety of patterns including this colorful Tutti Frutti design.

More often than not, Roxy’s handbags are bright and colorful with details that are meant to evoke a casual, carefree vibe that fits its surf-loving style. I can’t really say that this Solstice Satchel fits in with that look, although both the design and price are enough to catch my eye.

The price, more than anything, is what makes the Solstice an appealing purchase for shoppers with a limited budget. If you dig the style and don’t mind synthetic leather, which is highly likely if you’re shopping in this price range, this satchel’s $38 tag is ideal.

Honestly, even if you were shopping in a price range that went up to $150 or so, there’s still a decent likelihood that you’d still be getting leather-like material. Even though Roxy is a juniors line, there’s nothing wrong with getting a good deal on a versatile purse. It might not be as grown-up as designs from other synthetic-loving handbag brands such as Jessica Simpson, but the Solstice’s solid color and simple design mature it a bit.

My favorite feature on the satchel is the knot on each end of the twisted handles. It’s the kind of detail that makes the Solstice fit right in with Roxy’s cool vibe, but in a subtle way.

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard Kate Moss’ name connected to French luxury handbag label Longchamp. However, the circumstances surrounding the connection are a little bit different.

As opposed to fronting the advertising campaign for this new spring/summer season, a job that instead went solely to other Longchamp veteran and favorite Sasha Pivovarova, Moss will actually be designing for the company. In a collaboration that will reportedly last for several seasons to come, the supermodel will be working on a line of handbags for Longchamp.

Of course, Kate Moss is no newbie when it comes to designing lucrative collections for other companies. Her work with UK retailer Topshop has been more than successful, as has her signature fragrance recently launched with perfume house Coty.

I’m fully expecting this new Kate Moss for Longchamp range to go on the model’s long list of fashion achievements and can’t wait to see what she creates for the label along with artistic director Sophie Delafontaine. The collection is set to be released for spring/summer 2010 on February 11.

As a vintage junky, I love Lucite. I have to admit, however, that this Laura Matthews Designs purse uses Lucite to produce a bag unlike any I have seen before!

I think whilst the shape is relatively normal, it is the fabric that makes this stand out. It may be patent leather, but the deep gray shade of this glossy purse looks fabulously PVC, dahlings! Simultaneously as at home on the catwalk as in the red light district, I can’t decide if I love it or hate it. I think the scrunchy effect may be a step too far in the wrong direction; with the gray it looks like an elephant!

Enough insults, as I don’t actually hate this clutch. There are just a number of things that jumped out and needed to be said. What I do like, however, is that Lucite panel. The black makes a great contrast with the main patent body, whilst the material itself uses that wonderful matte plastic effect as well as expected. Essentially, that wonderful Lucite makes what could be tacky, classy.

All in all, despite initial reservations this bag has won me over. I may have fallen to the dark side, but for $110 I think it is worth it!

Mulberry brings a little edge to after-five wear with the Ava clutch.

The styling is simple enough, with a rectangular shape and basic flap closure. Black is another traditional choice, although the soft suede fabric makes this conservative color a little more special. But the real showstoppers are those gold-tone rivets.

These metal accents make a refreshing change from glittering rhinestones or crystals. They’re the same kind of hardware we’d see on our favorite pair of Levis, and I’m sure we could easily pair the purse with those jeans. I only wish the detail was continued on the back. There are a couple of rivets along the top, but they only make the rest of the back appear painfully plain.

The styling suits daytime wear, but it wouldn’t look out of place at an exclusive soiree either. You probably don’t want to use this purse to make the nine-to-five transition though. While it’s called oversized, the slender profile does limit storage space! The lack of shoulder strap is also bound to prove tiresome once the hours wear on.

But despite its limitations, the Ava looks an attractive proposition at $695.

Emporio Armani gives us color, and plenty of it, in its new spring/summer advertising campaign. Models Anna Selezneva and Sean O’Pry are bathed in saturated hues of red, white, and blue.

The urban landscape appears to be melting like some Dali painting, an abstract look which really evokes the sultry heat of summer.

While the backdrop suits the season, Giorgio Armani has gone in a different direction for the collection. I feel sorry for poor Sean O’Pry sweltering under that three-piece suit! Anna Selezneva’s shift dress is much more appropriate, although I’m sure she didn’t need the scarves. At least her tote bag looks beach ready!

Star photographer Mario Sorrenti captured the colorful urban landscape under the direction of Emanuele Del Fabbro. The models were expertly styled by Jane How, while Bob Recine and Frank Buscarello were in charge of hair and make-up.

The combined work of all these artistic visionaries results in an Emporio Armani campaign that might not be entirely appropriate for summer, but still stands out.
