I must admit, Nine West hasn’t always impressed me. Sometimes I feel the brand forgets style in its quest for affordable fashions. But one bag from the brand that has turned my head is this Marina tote.

Fashion snobs may turn their nose up at the PVC exterior, but I don’t think this material looks as cheap as many manmade fabrics. It’s got the right amount of gloss, and the bag’s slight slouch makes the most of that shine. I love the contemporary cut, which cleverly disguises the external pockets. The silver Nine West medallion too is a chic and subtle way to brand the bag.

Those deep outside pockets mean we don’t need more pouches cluttering the interior. With just one pocket inside, this is a great bag for carrying bulky items. The long tapered handles are ergonomically designed to sit comfortably over your shoulder or in the palm of your hand.

I love the unexpected auburn tones of this walnut bag, but if you’re after a more traditional look the Marina is also available in basic black.

It is a Wednesday, and I need a fashion pick-me-up. This sparkling metal magazine roll from Whiting & Davis is the perfect thing to fix my mood!

Decoratively, the photo of this bag speaks for itself. We have a hard frame body, in a tubular shape, that just oozes glamor. It is also quite art deco, channeling a minimalist yet angular style. I don’t know many people who would fault the smooth metallic finish and gorgeous curvy shape; it has a universal appeal!

The only problem with the shape is the storage. Room is actually as expected, but the restricted diameter means people may struggle to fit their cell phones in, especially if they own an iPhone or similar. You should be able to fit your minimal night out stuff in however!

Sophisticated, pretty and edgy, this is a happy medium of bold and delicate. It isn’t cheap, but no designer statement is!

When I think of The SAK, my mind almost always goes toward crochet and traditional hippie style, which is why it always throws me off just a little to see a leather satchel like this one from the brand. It’s certainly not the only leather handbag they offer, but the Solana Duffel is a far cry from the crocheted bamboo yarn of the Eco Harmony line.

The traditional duffel silhouette is made much more appealing with the leather material and interesting details that The SAK has added to it. It’s certainly not the sort of satchel you’d carry dirty gym clothes around in. We’ll save sports duffels to brands like Adidas and Puma and keep bags like the Solana for nicer traveling and toting.

Just because this duffel is pretty, though, doesn’t mean it isn’t functional. There are plenty of pockets to be had on the Solana including one on either side of the exterior. The tassel pulls on those side pockets add to the bohemian style that The SAK is known for, but it’s the other exterior features that really give this duffel its unique personality.

The front and back of the bag are detailed with pleating along the top to give a relaxed look to the shape. Most interesting, however, are the vertical stitching and subtle bit of metallic trim that pop out on the Solana. They stand out on this deep plum color, although each shade available for the satchel is equally pretty.

We finally have the perfect counterpart to the wheeled contraptions that designer labels seem determined to manufacture despite their slightly ridiculous nature. Italian label Tod’s has released a line of luxurious and (dare I say it) actually sort of stylish helmets.

Motorcycle helmets are probably furthest from my mind when I think of fashion, but somehow Tod’s has managed to make them appealing and possibly even a little chic with a hint of retro style. From a brand that has released It bags like the celebrity favorite G-Bag, I guess it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that they’d be at least a little fashionable.

The motorcycle or Vespa helmets are available in a super soft white, black, or vachetta-colored leather and made entirely by hand. Each features a comfortable microfiber lining and flip-up eye shield made from plexiglass and attached with stainless steel hardware. A leather label with the brand’s signature logo is visible near the chin strap.

These designer helmets are priced around $1,000 each. Just because they’ve been categorized for use with motorcycles and Vespas doesn’t mean they’re limited to those wheeled vehicles only. They’d also make the perfect accessory to Fendi or Gucci’s luxury bicycle or even Chanel’s segway, should you be lucky enough to own one. I’d be willing to deal with a little helmet hair for that!

Tommy Hilfiger goes smart yet casual with this Logo Items tote.

The smart elements of this everyday bag are obvious. The TH signature fabric resembles a conservative twist on houndstooth, whilst the patent leather top adds some sophisticated flair. Finally the muted color palette and metallic panel complete the classy effect.

On top of these, which obviously make the purse suitable for work-wear, you have some more casual elements. Firstly the exterior fabric, whilst in a smart pattern, is always going to make a bag look slightly more casual. Then the black and white striped canvas handles contrast with the other decorative elements, and whilst a distinctly sporty Tommy Hilfiger touch I feel it reduces the bag’s broad appeal.

All that said and done, this is a cheap and fashionable bag that comes with that clear TH style. You’ll either love it or you’ll hate it, but either way you won’t feel ripped off!

Nina Ricci is destined to make girly girls go weak at the knees with its Capucine Musette Bag.

This is fun, flirty, and feminine all the way, but I like the little quirks which separate it from the pack. Nina Ricci could have opted for an overtly feminine pink, but by choosing pale mauve calf skin the label’s made this bag a little more interesting. The base is a fairly traditional flap design with a vintage turnlock, but it’s the embellishments that add personality. The flap is adorned with large perforated holes, which are threaded through with soft knotted leather. This ribbon ties in the front to create a structured bow.

A similar leather ribbon is knotted at the ends to create a totally touchable shoulder strap. I love the way the handle gives the design a cohesive look, but its appeal is much more than aesthetic. This is the kind of strap I want to sling over my shoulder all day. It’s just a shame that the pale leather probably doesn’t warrant everyday use!

The interior backs up that theory. It’s probably big enough to cope with daytime essentials, but with just one pocket inside it’s going to be tough to keep the clutter at bay. The Capucine Musette is definitely a bag to carry on the odd occasion, rather than a wardrobe staple.

That should make me balk at the price tag, which comes dangerously close to $2000, but funnily enough I don’t. When designers create bags this cute, they’re kind of hard to resist!

Ever since we heard the news, we’ve been dying for the details of Sarah Jessica Parker’s new position at Halston. Now the Sex and the City star has dished the dirt, and it’s pretty spectacular.

SJP has been named the fashion house’s president and chief creative officer. She will take a seat on the Halston board alongside Chief Executive Officer Bonnie Takhar, and own equity stake in the firm. It’s a massive commitment for the actress to make, and she knows it.

“I think this is a brand new kind of business model and it illustrates how serious I am about this position,” she explained. “I think it’s wonderful to feel invested in something.

“There is a huge amount I don’t know and I am very candid about that, and I am excited to learn. There are going to be things that come up that I am equipped to deal with and answer and respond to, and there are things that I will be happily mentored on by Bonnie. I have no allergy to learning.”

Sarah Jessica Parker’s always proven herself to be a smart cookie with style to spare. I’m sure she’ll learn the ropes in no time. I wonder how she might juggle this role with her acting career, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Halston Handbags on eBay

It’s got a very regal moniker, but I can’t imagine the stylish Egyptian queen carrying her Necessary Objects namesake!

This dome satchel is far too casual for royalty, and the materials frankly inferior. A purse fit for Cleopatra would surely use real crocodiles from the Nile rather than this glossy embossed synthetic. The manmade fabric does keep the price down, but since when would the Queen of Egypt bother pinching pennies?

Necessary Objects really sets itself up for scorn here. The Cleopatra isn’t a bad handbag, but it’s not one of the label’s best. The bag might cost just $60, but the shiny fabric makes it look even cheaper. The shape, with its uniquely curved top and slouchy body, does try to take some risks. However, I’m not convinced by the silhouette.

Still, this bag does everything you could ask of it. It’s a generous number, with plenty of pockets inside to make organization easy. The straps are long enough for slinging over your shoulder, and the colors conservative enough to work with any wardrobe.

You might not look royal carrying it, but the Cleopatra is an affordable option for regular gals.

After having just recently revealed that Kate Moss has been collaborating with Longchamp for a new line of handbags for the luxury label, we’ve already got a first look at what she’s been working on thanks to the latest issue of Vogue Paris.

The designs, created by Moss under the direction of the label’s artistic director Sophie Delafontaine, are chic and stylish. I’d expect nothing less from someone with Moss’ experience. Although they’re not exactly on the cutting edge of fashion, these handbags fit beautifully with Longchamp’s traditional style and seem like they would appeal to a broad range of personal tastes … not to mention any fan of Kate Moss.

In the article for the French magazine, the supermodel elaborated on her design choices and preferences, which has been loosely translated here:

The emerald green pochette, whose color I love, I wanted to be very simple, based on the shape of an envelope. I would wear it with all black or all navy. Because I love to wear dove gray, I wanted a bag in that color to go with my gray jeans.

Longchamp Bags on eBay

At first glance, this Bulga Vittel satchel is everything I’d expect from the designer label. Its supple, high quality leather and lack of excessive hardware or extra details are very indicative of the brand’s signature style.

On the other hand, there are a few features about the bag that confuse me a little. The main design aspect that has me scratching my head is the asymmetry of the handle anchors. One side of the traditional-looking rolled straps attaches to the bag with a tasteful d-ring that loops through a topstitched leather patch. Even the small stud at the end of the handle blends right in with the classic look.

The other side of the handles, however, does not continue the same design. There are no studs, no d-rings, and much larger topstitched patches that simply flow seamlessly down from the strap. The end result of the two different sides just seems out of balance rather than modern or avant-garde. Frankly, I don’t understand why Bulga would attempt such a strange look for such an otherwise classic-looking satchel.

Unbalanced handles aside, however, I do like the equestrian style that the Vittel has going on. The topstitching combined with saddle bag pocket with buckles on the front and the braided zipper pull all contribute to the look. The burnt orange color is slightly unexpected and unique, although this Bulga bag also comes in a very dark brown or gray.
