Miu Miu makes high fashion that is, well, not exactly affordable, but at least attainable. Its accessories have been really spot on the past few seasons: a little less out there, a little more elegant, but still edgy and of-the-moment. Exactly like this Quilted Leather Clutch.

It has the same look as other bags in the coffer line, but on a smaller scale. Frankly, while I like the other coffers, I think this one is the best of the lot. The small size really enhances the texture of the bag, which is both shiny and soft. Plus the oversized gold hardware really pops on this small scale; it doesn’t get lost in a lot of other details.

Other than the very cool look of the clutch, though, it doesn’t really have a lot of extras in terms of size or organizational features. I guess it doesn’t need them, but the style is very everyday for a clutch, and if I’m going to carry a clutch everyday, I really want a little more out of it. Or I want to pay less for it. The $770 price is attainable, but not really reasonable.

I do like it when a brand ups and contradicts my preconceptions! I used to think that Juicy Couture was all about flannel and pink, but this leather wallet is actually quite classy!

Some people will feel that the obvious gold colored hardware on this wallet is a little tacky, but I actually like the antique color against the lovely teal background. Plus, they have kept the studding to a minimum, meaning that this little clutch avoids looking like it is stuck in last season’s trends. The padlock itself, while I don’t know if it works, is just a cute feature that makes this really pretty.

Inside this isn’t one of those wallets that can double over fully as a clutch; there isn’t room for a phone or anything more bulky than some cash. You do get decent room for cards (lots of cards!) and notes though, so you could probably just take this if you needed to nip to the shops! Plus, the big size makes it easy to clutch in your hand and hopefully harder to lose (although I could lose my own head if I didn’t screw it on!).

Cute and pretty, and in a great color, this Juicy Couture wallet is really quite sophisticated!

If Bebe’s Rosette Wristlet wasn’t enough bag for you, consider the style on a larger scale in this Rosette Hobo.

The hobo features the same structured flower we saw on the wristlet, but there’s a lot more bag behind it. The metallic version is a little too gaudy for my tastes, but the black purse is a bit more subdued. I also like the way the tiny nailhead studs pop on this darker fabric; they tend to get lost in the shine of the metallic version.

These studs work with the chain and woven fabric straps to add some unexpected edge. They toughen up the rosette, without making it lose its femininity. I can imagine 80s rock icons like Pat Benatar or Debbie Harry carrying a purse just like this.

It might be bigger than the wristlet, but it’s still not large by modern standards. I see this as an advantage though; it’s quite capable of carrying everything you need but it’s not big enough to be unmanageable. The media pouches and zippered coin pocket are also on hand to keep your valuables safe and organized.

We’ve got another case of copyright infringement lawsuit on our hands. This time its Marc Jacobs taking Christian Audigier’s Nervous Tattoo Inc. (responsible for the Ed Hardy label) to task for trade dress and trademark infringement.

Marc Jacobs claims its Pretty Nylon Tate Tote looks an awful lot like this Christian Audigier Koi tote. The lawsuit states that the “size, shape, color or color combination, product design, texture, and selection and arrangement of materials and accessories” used on this imposter make up the Pretty Nylon Tate Tote’s trade dress. It also violates the pending application for Marc Jacob’s scrambled trademark, which is featured on the Pretty Nylon Tate Tote’s lining.

Personally, I have to agree. Christian Audigier hasn’t even tried to be original here. The brand names may be different, but they’re quilted in exactly the same font. Then there’s the same knot-tied shoulder straps, the matching side pockets … even the dimensions are identical.

Let this be a lesson to you Christian Audigier. You can’t just whack a koi carp onto a bag and claim it’s something new.

An intriguing mix of woven straw and patent leather makes the Ana from Badgley Mischka a real head-turner.

Straw bags are notoriously fragile, but I think this Badgley Mischka one might last longer than its contemporaries. The ribbed lining and the leather trimmed pockets certainly give that impression, designed as they are with durability in mind.

The $475 retail value seems steep for a straw bag, no matter what it’s trimmed with. But its durable details and versatile styling might make it worth the splurge.

Motorcycle style bags and jackets are everywhere these days. Frankly, I’m thankful, as my own style tends to be pretty leather and zippers, and finding well-designed pieces has gotten a lot easier. This Faithful Medium Polished Leather Satchel by Alexander McQueen is the perfect example.

Although it looks a lot like the Le Dix bag by Balenciaga, the Faithful has an appeal all its own. For one thing, it goes for about $1,000 less than the original Le Dix, which as far as I’m concerned, is the only one to buy. For another, it has a softer, more rounded shape that is extremely attractive. Plus, it has a lot more hardware detailing, which I think makes it both more practical and also a little edgier.

The polished blue leather is totally to die for, and the quilting detail on the top flap is absolutely perfect. The Faithful has a whopping three exterior pockets for all the stuff you need to get to quickly. It also has two interior pockets to help keep you organized. Honestly, this baby has so many bells and whistles that it’s almost impossible to describe them all!

The buckle fastening straps at the front are mostly decorative, but you could also use them to scrunch the bag up, if you’re into that look. There is both a top handle and a removable shoulder strap, in case you want to sling it across your body. Sometimes I’m leery of bags that have too much going on, but I think the Faithful pulls it off in classic Alexander McQueen style!

Marni is one of those lines that manages to combine youthful energy with an old school approach to elegance. Its designs are both fun and timeless, and bags like this Large Clasp Clutch are exactly what I’m talking about.

Excuse me for gushing, but this bag is fabulous! The giant gold-tone clasp adds a girlish sense of humor to a very grown up evening bag. The supple suede pouch has a soft, amorphous appeal, and is big enough to hold more than the average evening’s worth of necessities. Plus, it has totally ingenious pouch pockets on either side; great for storing those need-now items like lip balm and breath mints.

This is the perfect clutch for adding a little touch of tongue-in-cheek humor to a serious evening ensemble. Unfortunately, at $900, the price is a little serious too.

This woven tote from Rampage is the epitome of cute and flirty weekend chic.

Getting the mix of casual and stylish right is very difficult. You need something that is versatile and comfy, yet which looks really smart and elegant at the same time. I think the Mykonos shopper has achieved that quite well, with the different woven colors adding interest to what is essentially a very roomy purse.

The patent brown panels add a frisson of interest and sophistication to what could essentially be an overly feminine tote. They also coordinate nicely with the chunky leather handles, and the recurring brown weave ties the whole thing together. Inside there aren’t any compartments like some large bags have, but the hot pink satin lining is more than enough to make up for it!

All in all this man-made leather purse is interesting and easy-going. Some will have issues with the brown reverse, but I see this as a functional addition.
