Valentine’s Day seems to have reached an unprecedented level of popularity this year. Everyone is producing lovey-dovey handbags with a certain cupid-influenced theme!

Marc Jacobs isn’t unfamiliar with designing heart bags, but this one is a lot subtler than his previous offerings. The hearts are simple stamped indentations on the glossy metallic leather, meaning that they stand out and get the message across without being too obvious and in-your-face. Consequently this is the perfect happy medium if you like the idea of Valentine’s Day, but not the tacky gaudy commercialism.

The gunmetal metal shape and dark metal chain handle do mean that this clutch is suitable for evening events with glitzy lights. It is also a  little edgier than many traditional fancy purses, allowing you to stamp your personality on a posh outfit, much like the hearts are stamped on the fabric! My only hesitation is the shape, which seems quite satchel-like and thus a little cumbersome for whirling around on the dance floor.

Of course with big size comes lots of space, with plenty of pockets that mean you can leave your wallet at home. This is a surprisingly affordable and practical purse which you will want if you lurve Marc by Marc Jacobs.

With all the old-world style and sophistication of Ms Blanchett comes the Cate Accordion Wallet from Abas.

The design is classic and refined. The beautiful Italian leather is textured with a rather impressive crocodile embossed print. It might not be the genuine article, but this is one of those rare purses which may have folks fooled. The shiny silver framed top and tab closure add an elegant vintage feel to this sophisticated design.

This teal shade is the pick for me; it’s so deep that it could almost work as a neutral, but it’s a lot more interesting. There are many more choices though: red, purple, black, and stone. With all these options, you could easily find one to work with your wardrobe.

It is stylishly slender, but the accordion style design means it’s more practical than you’d think. There are four expandable pockets ready to handle your cash, receipts, and a checkbook. The zippered compartment in the center can take care of coins, and the 12 card slots should be enough for all but the most serious shopaholics.

When a wallet looks this good, it’s a shame to keep it hidden inside a handbag. In fact, the Cate wallet from Abas could easily double as a clutch on a special night out.

Hermes is opening a new store in New York today, and it’s strictly for the gents. Hermes Man, located at 690 Madison Avenue, is Hermes’ first store dedicated to men’s fashions, accessories, and lifestyle goods.

“We felt there was a tremendous opportunity to really showcase all these wonderful products for men that Hermès makes,” Robert Chavez, President and CEO of Hermès USA, told Luxist. “These products tended to be overshadowed or almost hidden among the other categories across the street. This store will raise the awareness level of our current and potential male clients in this market who might not have realized before that Hermès had all of these products, from our enamel cuff links to the made-to-measure program.“

The store will feature many exclusive items, including a selection of silk ties and this handcrafted baseball glove. At $8500, I can’t imagine ever taking it on to the pitch!

“The baseball glove is a new product,” said Chavez. “It has never been made before by Hermes. We thought if we are opening our very first Hermès boutique for men in the world and it is going happen in the United States and in New York City, then we need to make to make a baseball glove. “

The 2450-square foot space was designed by Parisian architects. It was inspired by traditional tailor’s shops and gentlemen’s clubs, although it has a modern sensibility. The ground floor will feature suits, fragrances, small leather accessories, watches, and ties. There’s knitwear, sportswear, hats, belts, and luggage on the mezzanine. And on the top floor, expect big ticket items including suits priced up to $20, 700.

If the concept takes off, we can expect to see more Hermes Man stores in other locations around the world.

Yves Saint Laurent gives a modern twist to this season’s popular bow accents with the Grand Sac Y Bow bag.

Rather than using soft satin ribbons, Yves Saint Laurent creates its bow from leather. That gives the bow real structure, so it doesn’t appear as frothy as these often can. It’s almost an abstract interpretation of a bow, and this makes the bowler appear like a modern work of art. I can imagine it appealing to the type of girls who’d usually steer clear of feminine handbags.

Yves Saint Laurent makes the contemporary bow a real feature by keeping the rest of the design simple. The signature Y is rendered in white for subtle contrast with the textured leather. The dome style is no fashion innovator, but the classic shape is just what’s needed.

The generous interior could use a few more pockets, but I do love the little case attached. With a zipper to keep things safe, I imagine it’d be great for stashing cosmetics or loose change.

This bag is a lot bigger than it looks, so I wish the handles were a little longer. Petite girls may be able to sling it over their shoulder, but I imagine many women won’t be so lucky. If I were restricted to hand-held carrying all day, I’m sure my love for the Grand Sac Y Bow might fade. While I’m griping I could also bemoan the impractical white leather which will show stains in no time, or the price tag which happily nudges $2000.

But high-end fashion isn’t about practicality, is it? While there are things I might have changed, none of these concerns make me want this YSL beauty any less!

Burberry is the latest fashion label to show us some love. The British brand has launched a line of heart-print purses just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The collection includes a range of four differently-sized bags from small shoulder purses to large totes. Each tote features Burberry’s iconic nova plaid pattern overlaid with whimsical hearts. Or in the case of the Confetti Hearts tote, the hearts become part of the checkered print!

While the bags are ideal for Valentine’s Day gifts, I’m not sure about their staying power once the Hallmark holiday is over. The youthful designs might appeal to teens, but older fashion fans will probably pass these over for more sophisticated styles. Personally I prefer the more subtle hearts bags the brand released not too long ago.

They’re not priced for a younger demographic, with the smallest Painted Hearts Hobo Bag retailing for $295. If the large Painted Hearts Tote has you swooning, you’ll need to pay $695. These aren’t exorbitant prices by designer standards, but they do seem a little steep for a seasonal novelty.

Yak Pak keeps it simple with the Taylor Duffle Bag.

It doesn’t have a lot of frills, but it also doesn’t cost the earth. That combination is sure to appeal to girls looking for a functional and spacious bag for carrying their sneakers to the gym or books to school. In fact, it’d suit any time when you don’t need to be the height of fashion; you just need to get the job done.

It’s not that the Taylor is unattractive though. The all-over plaid pattern is timeless, and while it might not be preppy chic like Burberry’s Nova checks it would look great paired with a faithful pair of jeans. I can’t help wishing for more prints as Yak Pak typically offers, but this one will do.

The barrel shape is a little boring, but it does make for easy packing and unpacking. The canvas body may be another disappointment for luxury lovers, but it’s hardwearing to cope better with daily punishment than any exotic ever would.

At $24.99, the Taylor is an affordable option for bargain-loving girls on the go.

Aw, aren’t these hearts cute? And just in time for Valentine’s Day, too!

Betseyville handbags by Betsey Johnson are always adorable, but this one seems a cut above the rest. Maybe it is the cute pattern of alternating right way up and inverted hearts, or maybe it is the dotty design, but something is making this tug on all the right heart strings.

Sure it isn’t serious, but I think Cupid is all about over-the-top gestures and pretty colors! Of course the flirty pattern means it may not be formal enough for work, but it is definitely fine for weekends! The ruffled pockets with their pretty matching ribbon trim just completes the girly, yet casual, look.

The handle is a little small for such a spacey hobo, but at least the heart exterior and contrasting nail printed interior lining are lightweight. That way you can carry it round with ease on this Sunday the 14th!

It’s almost impossible to describe anything made by Yves Saint Laurent without using the word “chic.” It sounds cliché, but this is one fashion house that has understated elegance down to an art form. This Y clutch is the perfect example.

Envelope clutches have always been a favorite of mine. They say, “I look amazing, and I don’t need to carry much to do it.” Plus, the slim shape makes them easy to carry. The exquisite detailing on this one makes it impossibly perfect for the kind of woman who likes everything just so without a lot of fuss.

The flap pocket with magnetic closure is almost completely seamless, and the evenness of the stitch detail makes it even more so. I love the rich, chocolatey color. It’s so perfect for evening with a bright dress, or to add a little extra to your favorite LBD.

The interior is luxuriously lined in suede and features a zipper pocket. From the inside out, this is one bag that’s made to stand the test of time, not to mention a night on the town.

Elliott Lucca go all-out luxe with this gorgeous demi clutch.

Quite of few of Elliott Lucca’s bags feature woven leather, and it is easy to see why; the designer is quite clearly an expert at working with soft pliable leather. This particular example is incredibly classy thanks to a clever interweaving of three different gold and bronze tones. This creates such a gorgeous metallic texture, as well as managing to make crinkled leather oddly resemble gingham. Those looks, with the little Elliott Lucca button at the bottom, have no need for any further decoration; they are lovely already!

The interior of the bag is just as classy as the outside. Lined in iridescent pure cotton fabric is is muted yet coordinated, and the handy little pocket is smartly trimmed in matching metallic leather. I am not entirely sure about the largely unnecessary leather zip pull on the zipper, but I can probably survive!

This purse with its optional handle is remarkably good looking and highly luxury; and all for under $100!

This Folly tote from XOXO has all the youthful energy we expect from the brand. While it might not suit those sophisticated fashion fans out there, it’s bound to be the envy of tweens and young teens.

Those budding bagistas are the ones XOXO clearly targets here with this colorful “Love” signature print. The white canvas body is the ideal backdrop for the bold multicolored letters and hearts. It makes the print really pop, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets grubby before long.

A row of studs along the bottom of the bucket-shaped tote completes the modern design. The patent rope handle looks a little out of place here, but it’s not a serious flaw. At least it looks reasonably comfortable to carry, and it’s long enough to sling over a shoulder. These practical issues will be much more important to a teen anyway.

Practicality seems to be forgotten inside though. Perhaps the white satin lining inspired the tote’s name! Whatever the case, it’s a serious misstep. I’m sure the lining will be covered in pen marks and lipstick stains before too long. At least the interior is a good size; big enough for essentials and a few luxuries, but not large enough for teens to struggle with.

And the price is right for its demographic too. At $59, this canvas tote will suit girls until they’re ready to move on to more sophisticated designs.
