With its unique looks and practical design, the Bradley from Luba J has all the elements that make me swoon.

It’s the oval shape that really turns my head. It does remind me a little of a football, although the pleated detail and shiny hardware help to bring the design away from the sports field. The leather too is more luxurious than any pigskin. I only wish that Luba J had added metal feet to protect it!

The distinctive shape isn’t just aesthetically pleasing. It also makes for plenty of usable storage space. While so many modern bags are skinny minis, this one is wide enough to accommodate chunky novels or textbooks and fat, overstuffed wallets.

Packing it to the brim shouldn’t be a problem thanks to the long, thick handles. They’re padded for maximum comfort no matter how much you’re toting.

The color palette is a little disappointing though. There’s very little to separate the plum and dark taupe bags; they’re both dark and a little drab. While I don’t mind conservative tones, I’d love to see this in light gray or ivory for a different look.

Tamil cinema darling Reemma Sen has a lot in common with Western lasses. It seems the Indian beauty has a weakness for designer handbags!

While she didn’t reveal her favorite designers to The Times of India, she did admit that she prefers a good purse over expensive jewelry any day!

It’s no longer simply a novelty dance from the 90s. Now the Macarena is making a comeback thanks to Laurel and Sunset.

While the dance was flamboyant and fun, this is a more mellow number. The details are interesting, but the gentle gray colored synthetic letter mutes the effect. It’s a good thing too, because those accents could have looked very busy. Horizontal pleats add further texture to this slouchy bag. This gentle ruching is accented with a row of leatherette buckles which runs down the center of the bag. The rope-like metal details underneath the handles add a vaguely Western vibe to proceedings. These accents look a little out of place, but by using complementary colors they’re a little easier to ignore.

This is a really practical tote, with plenty of useable space and enough pockets to keep it organized. I particularly appreciate the large zippered pouch which separates the tote into three separate compartments. The cotton-nylon blended lining is durable, although its boring beige color isn’t very exciting. The slightly sunken zip closure offers security without disturbing the tote’s good looks.

The Macarena carefully toes the line between classic and cutting edge. And at just $39.90, it won’t break the bank either!

Alexander Wang has basically taken over the world of cutting edge handbags. His Donna Hobo was the IT bag of last season, and it seems like he’s on a roll. This Darla clutch is an amazing addition to an extraordinary collection.

I am seriously about to start gushing, so stand back. I want this clutch so bad my teeth hurt. The super soft leather is amazing in this triangular shape, and the extreme shape is offset by the softness of the stitch detail on the seams.

But, let’s be honest, it’s the blunt black studs that really make this bag. The shiny black of the metal contrasts slightly with the sheen of the leather, but not in any ostentatious way. The studs are of all different shapes, and are arranged in some perfectly asymmetrical vision of symmetry.

The Darla is the definition of understated rocker chic. I’m not sure I can live without it. Except that at $532, it’s really pricey for just a little bit of a bag.

Rampage has made a really visually stunning purse with this unusual Paris clutch.

Quilted purses can often have a bit of a old-fashioned style, even when they are made out of the most modern of materials. This particular purse avoids these issues by using straight vertical lines to quilt the fabric, rather than the more traditional curvy shapes. These orderly lines look great at right angles to the long horizontal clasp, immediately making this purse seem very smart and stylish.

I must admit that whilst the majority of this Rampage clutch looks great, I am a little unconvinced by the shiny studs, increasing in size. They seem to avoid the linear shape of the rest of the handbag, and I kind of wish they had stuck to what they were already doing very well.

What I do like, however is the great interior. In contrast with the bright green exterior and coordinating stitching, the interior of this affordable purse is in a bright fuchsia satin, instantly making this great fun and really enjoyable to use! Plus, at $68 this is a really good stylish bargain!

At $269, the Firedrake is hardly an impulse buy. But it’s a lot cheaper than many fashion rule breakers I’ve seen. If you’re looking for a purse which combines luxury and cutting edge style, this Forzieri bag represents great value.

I’m convinced that Marc Jacobs has officially lost his marbles. How else do you explain this monstrosity which made its debut during Louis Vuitton’s spring 2010 show?

Known as the New Age Traveler Backpack, it takes over designing to the extreme. I can’t imagine any hippie type carrying this monstrosity with its tassels, fringe, and mini phone cords. Yes, those springy coils really are telephone cords! Underneath all that I hear there’s some monogrammed canvas, but it’s pretty hard to spot with all that clutter.

If there’s not enough going on here for your tastes, don’t worry. The New Age Traveler Backpack also has a ring on the bottom so you can attach one of those fox tails Marc Jacobs loves so much. Personally, I think more accents is the last thing this bag needs!

If by any strange change this did steal the heart of a new age type, they’ll probably be out of luck. This Louis Vuitton bag retails for a staggering $54,500. I’ll say it again: Marc Jacobs has lost his marbles. Nobody but nobody is going to want to pay that price for that bag.

Then again, I thought the same thing about Louis Vuitton’s Tribute bag and the ordinarily stylish Beyonce proved me wrong. Maybe this is just kooky enough to become the next big thing.

Conservative types will swoon for the sensible styling of Frye’s Christine bag.

There’s a unisex appeal about the classic combination of neutral toned leather and antique brass hardware. Leather trim stripes flank the practical front pocket, which is a great place for storing your car keys, cell phone, or other items you want to find without fuss.

The interior space is also traditionally designed, with its functional twill lining and single zippered pocket. It’s not very big by modern-day standards, but most girls shouldn’t struggle to fit the essentials inside.

I am a little confused by the strap though. The Christine is called a shoulder bag, so why isn’t the strap long enough to comfortably fit over a shoulder? The decision to make the strap detachable is also confusing. After all, the Christine is far too large to comfortably carry clutch style. I do love its look though; the braided center with its zip details is an unexpected eye-catcher.

As you might expect, the colors of the traditional Christine are quite conservative. It’s not a fashion rebel, but in black, dark brown or burgundy it is an easy fit for any wardrobe.

Steve Madden Ltd acquired handbag label Big Buddha on Thursday in an agreement reportedly worth $11 million.

Big Buddha’s sales were around the $13 million mark last year, and with the influence of Steve Madden and the improving financial situation it wouldn’t surprise me if it eclipses those numbers in 2010. When you’re an affordable handbag brand pulling those kind of numbers in a financial crisis, the only way is up.

“Big Buddha is a dynamic young brand that is a great complement to our current accessories portfolio. The handbags have generated a lot of buzz in the marketplace, and the brand has developed a loyal following among consumers,” explained Ed Rosenfeld, CEO of Steven Madden. “The business has clear opportunities for continued strong top-line growth, and we look forward to using our resources at Steve Madden to help Big Buddha expand in new accounts, territories and categories.”

Both labels have produced some really exciting and edgy handbags this year. I’m keen to see what this business deal means for both brands in the future.
