At first glance I thought this bag was made from that crushed velvet fabric that was so popular in the early 90s. Then I looked a little closer and realised that Betsey Johnson has actually used a strangely patterned tie-dye style fabric to create that effect!

You look a little closer and this already unusual purse becomes stranger still. You see, there is a cat hidden in the print, smack bang between the black leather trimmed exterior pockets. The feline creature adds a little funky character to this hobo, although if I am honest I am aware many people will not be fans of the overall style.

The shape of this Cat-Ch Me tote is convenient and casual, with lots of room and space for all your belongings. The long handle too will work well with the casual shape of this bag, making it really easy to carry.

Wow, a lizard textured bag that is zebra print at the same time? Generally this would be a fashion catastrophe, but Kathy Van Zeeland has managed to make it work.

I think the good quality synthetic leather makes a difference to the success of this shopper. It means that the bag is soft and slouchy, and that the lizard print  blends into the fabric rather than standing out dramatically. The subtle texture therefore works with the bold animal print, rather than working against it.

If being brave in black and white isn’t your thing, then you may well feel this shopper is a little ostentatious. When you think about it, however, there is nothing other than the print grabbing attention. The shape is soft and simple, the handles are sensible, and the pockets are useful. It isn’t trying too hard, and I think this means that it looks good rather than over-the-top.

I am not completely convinced by the contrasting floral lining, but then I am not a fan of combining prints anyway! Still, for $89 this Lounge Lizard shopper isn’t at all overpriced.

The surprising combination of ruffles and zippered trim makes the Laurel a purse of contradictions.

All those frills are definitely feminine, but their zippered edges give the ruffles a healthy dose of attitude. This is the kind of purse I can imagine Pink or Katy Perry carrying on the red carpet to remind us that girls can still rock!

I’m not entirely convinced by the leather though. Its slightly glossy sheen cheapens the look, making it appear more like synthetic than the genuine article. Of course, we’re still paying real leather prices. It might make the purse more durable in the long run, but it could have looked much better than this.

The gingham lined space is simple but serviceable. Clutches never hold a lot, but there should be enough room for the basics. You’ll get more space if you take out the shoulder strap. The thin leather strap is long enough for cross-body carrying, and infinitely more comfortable than the chains we’re used to.

This versatile clutch could help to dress up your favorite pair of Levis or add a little attitude to a little black dress. Get it in green, cognac, espresso, or plum.

Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue is the new face of Tous handbags. The singing sensation poses as a sexy magician in the brand’s playful new advertising campaign.

I love the originality of this advertisement which sees a scantily clad Kylie chopping herself into pieces! And doesn’t she look amazing for 41? Girls half her age would kill for that flawless skin and those incredible legs!

Kylie’s just as enthusiastic about the images, and their photographer Ellen Von Unwerth.

After seeing this one, I think Kylie might be right.

I don’t know a lot about Tous handbags, but this original advertising campaign is enough to pique my interest.

Did any of you see what Rihanna wore to last year’s American Music Awards? I remember thinking at the time, “I wonder what purse you’d carry when you’re wearing an outfit like this.” Now I have my answer.

This Leather Strip Clutch from Maison Martin Margiela is made from lush white leather strips which wrap around the body the same way Rihanna’s daring outfit did! There’s no hardware, logo plate, handles, or other bells and bobs. After all, those details would only compete with this clutch’s mummy-like looks!

And it is a purse that’s all about the look. It’s teeny tiny by modern standards, barely able to fit a Blackberry or other essentials. I’d suggest we could use it as a coin purse, but at $500 it’s far too pricey for that.

Still, if you’ve got a partner who’s willing to carry your essentials in his pockets, this would make a great addition to your wardrobe.

Suri Cruise certainly has champagne tastes for a tiny tot! Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes‘ three-year-old daughter apparently carried a miniature Salvatore Ferragamo Sofia bag while boarding a helicopter in Jamaica last week.

The designer bag, which retails for $850, is a smaller version of the $1850 Sofia purse Mommy Holmes carried.

This isn’t the first time the mother-daughter duo has stepped out in matching fashions. In January they were spotted wearing identical baby doll dresses outside a Los Angeles dance studio.

Tom Cruise recently affirmed that Suri has inherited her style, and her obstinate personality, from her mother.

“Suri’s very much like her mother. She will not wear trousers, only dresses. I put a pair of trousers on her and turn and leave the room and straight away the trousers are off and a dress is on instead!” he said.

“The other day, Kate showed her some gold-colored sneakers thinking she might like to wear them, and she looked at them and said, ‘Oh mommy, these are lovely, but they’re boy shoes,'” Cruise went on. “She’s sweet, but she’s very strong-willed – just like her mother.“

Strong willed or not, I can’t imagine spending that amount of money on a purse for my toddler. It sounds like the Cruises have more cash than sense!

With its tiny little name, it’s little wonder that the Lily is one super cute purse.

Straw Studios is famous for its woven straw bags, and this one doesn’t deviate too dramatically from that format. The cornhusk is woven in a boxy design on the body, then braided around the top of the bag. This traditional look is jazzed up with patent PVC handles and an oversized bow. The spotted ribbon gives the Lily its character, and while it won’t please everyone I think it’s adorable.

A lined interior is a given on a luxury purse, but a lovely bonus here. So are the pockets: one zippered, one open, and one for a cell phone. These make the interior much more functional than that of many straw satchels. I’m less enthusiastic about the closure though. A drawstring does seem to suit the Lily’s relaxed vibe, but it’s not as secure as a zip might have been, or as easy to operate as a magnetic snap.

It may not be the height of fashion, but the Lily would be a great companion for picnic lunches and days at the beach. With warmer weather approaching, this affordable Straw Studio looks like an attractive proposition.

Is there anything that Madonna cannot do? She’s already made a splash as a singer, actress, mother, model, and style icon. Now the latest rumor is that she’s about to add designer to her already illustrious resume.

Word is that Madge will launch a fashion collection for Macy’s in the future. The line is said to feature accessories, lingerie, shoes, and apparel, so we can dress like Madonna from head to toe! While no names have been confirmed as yet, early speculation is that the intimates line will be called Truth or Dare, with the apparel to be marketed under the name Material Girl.

Madonna is no fashion novice after designing a H&M collection in 2007, although I wonder whether her skills may be a little rusty. In any case, anything that Madonna does is always worth a look. Now we just have to cross our collective fingers that the rumors are true!

Macy’s Bags on eBay

I may be about to be lampooned for daring to show this terry cloth hobo from Echo on a website dedicated to handbags. And sure, it isn’t fashionable, but I am going to stick my neck out and say that this fabric tote may well be useful.

Actually, saying even that feels horrible. After all, this is quite clearly ugly; the painfully unfashionable soft cloth hangs down from boring white rope handles. It really isn’t a looker, and if you want something sporty that looks good outside of the gym then you are definitely going to want to search elsewhere, and you can probably find it for less that the $37 this is listed at.

Where this is handy, however, is if you are a swimmer. If you have spent years swimming and training like I have, then you will know that towelling and terry cloth are the very best at absorbing all that excess water in your swimming costume. You have to dry the suit and the bag when you get home, but for function and sportiness this fabric can’t be beat. At least it is lined, so once wet stuff is in there it won’t leak out, and you can use the cloth to wipe your brow!

Pink Studio takes the clutch away from the red carpet with its casual Cola purse.

The clamshell design with its metal kisslock closure and frame is one that we’ve seen on so many formal clutches. But the Kola’s canvas body, with its horizontal colored stripes and unique vertical pleats, brings a more relaxed, summery feel. I love the nautical vibe of the stripes in blue, but the red and yellow alternatives are also appealing.

Its small stature does work against it though. The dimensions are more suited to a cosmetics purse than a clutch, particularly one that’s intended for daytime use. It could always serve as a change purse I suppose, but it seems a shame to tuck such a cute clutch away like that.

While I’m talking about the flaws, it’s also worth mentioning that the Kola doesn’t come with a shoulder strap. These are almost standard on modern clutch purses, and I feel its absence. A thin leather strap would have made this purse just that bit more practical.

At least the Kola doesn’t cost us the earth. This tiny purse has a tiny price of just $30, which makes it a little easier to forgive any imperfections.
