The classic box shape is given a little edge with an angular zippered flap. A magnetic fastener holds the flap down, and when paired with the zip you’ll never have to worry about security. A transparent ID window is embedded into the flap, a clever touch which helps to maximize storage space. The playfully printed interior also has several pockets to make the most of the fairly narrow space.

With the Effe’s contemporary styling, the lack of shoulder strap comes as a bit of a surprise. This convenient feature has become almost commonplace, and we miss it here. Cole Haan takes us back to the sixties with this wild psychedelic Ruby Wristlet.

I love the way the printed mosaic blends jewels and tiles in bright red and purple. It clashes of course, but the woven look brings it all together to work somehow. While I’m a fan of the print, Cole Haan knew it would be too daring for some bagistas. So we also find the Ruby in plain champagne, black, and a flamboyant purple shade called plumeria.

All tones are complemented by rich looking leather trim and soft pleating. After the bold exterior, the plain space comes as a little bit of a shock. It’s entirely appropriate though, with the lack of pockets keeping the tiny interior uncluttered and the matte purple faille working well with the busy Formula One Multi design.

Wristlets never look out of place on casual days out, but the satiny body and leather accents of the Ruby help it work after five as well. That makes the affordable $48 price tag look pretty appealing!

Oversized clutches are still loved by the fashion jet set, and the Hype Naomi bag is one of the most unusual designs.

Whilst this wrinkled leather purse does conform to the current predilection towards large rectangular bags, the designer breaks up the norm with the uniquely textured plum leather, and the unusual matching rope clasp. I do wonder if the oversized tassel was perhaps taking the looks a little too far, although many girls will like the detail of the accessory.

The point that always needs to be made about oversized clutches is the carrying issue. No designer I have seen yet has cracked this problem, and as such they remain too big to carry easily, yet with no shoulder friendly handle. Don’t buy one if you aren’t happy to carry it in your hand all night!

If you know the flaws yet love the design, then it is available for $150 and the gorgeous yellow interior should seal the deal.

You don’t necessarily expect subtlety from a handbag brand that specializes in sequins, but this fabulous rainbow bag from Santi brings a whole new meaning to the word “unsubtle”!

Don’t take bright colors and metallic sequins as negative things. In fact, I think the range of shades and funky abstract pattern actually work for this little clutch, rather than against. Appearing much like tie-dye, just with cute tiny sequins, this is of course going to be a handbag that people either love or hate. If it is your kind of thing, however, then it will be the perfect antidote to a dull black evening dress or plain outfit.

I would advise, however, against wearing this slouchy evening bag with an already bright outfit. The colors have a tendency to overpower and clash, and on these occasions the end result can be that this Santi creation looks quite tacky. If worn well, however, then the smooth black frame and soft shape can look great.

$173, of course, isn’t cheap. It is especially pricey considering the limited range of applications of this multi-colored evening bag. Of course, that means it will really make a statement when you do wear it!

Treesje dresses up the current taste for studs with this Studded Exposed Hobo.

Tiny studs are the supporting players here, quietly complementing the leather’s lush seamed texture. This is a gorgeous surface, with the seams mimicking diagonal pleats. They are then offset by subtle stitching running in the opposite direction. From a distance I thought it might be woven, but Treesje has proven itself to be a real trendsetter here. I’m sure we’ll see many more brands mimicking this head-turning finish.

All that stitching gives this hobo more structure than many of its contemporaries. That helps this Studded Exposed bag look more sophisticated than its peers, allowing you to carry the bag just about anywhere. And with elegant shades like black, white, and this brown-tinged gray, it should suit most outfits.

I was so wowed by the texture I barely noticed the two zippered pockets running vertically on the front and back. That’s four pockets in all, offering more than ample space for the items you need on hand. Of course, using vertical pockets is never easy, but they look so modern I’m willing to struggle.

The interior is much more user-friendly, with plenty of space and pockets to match. Inside you’ll find a secure zippered pocket for loose change and valuables, two open pockets for your gadget, and a handy key hook. A magnetic closure keeps your precious cargo safe.

At $670 this is one of Treesje’s most expensive purses, but I think it’s also one of the brand’s best.

Preppy fashion label Steven Alan will expand its fashion empire to include handbags this fall. The brand will start small, with a capsule collection featuring just six handbag styles.

Steven Alan promises to release several traditional purse designs, including hobos, satchels, and shoulder bags, all with a distinctly equestrian vibe. The combination of bridled leather and brass hardware should be just as popular away from the track though!

This may be Steven Alan’s first handbag collection, but it’s not the designer’s first attempt at accessories. Alan recently collaborated with V Australia, an offshoot of Virgin America, on a limited edition travel bag.

While that carry-on bag cost $777, we can expect the new women’s handbags to be much more affordable. You can buy them soon at Steven Alan’s New York City and Californian boutiques and other selected retail stores for between $398 and $565.

Big Buddha gives us vintage style for less with the Tiffany clutch.

While the looks might resemble the elegant 1950s, the quality doesn’t quite stack up. The body isn’t real snakeskin, or even embossed leather, but the synthetic skin with its patent shine does a good impression of a more luxe fabric. That’s helped by the beautiful color options; rich brown and gun metal are perennial favorites and this gold purse doesn’t have a hint of gaudy glitz. This exotic looking skin is offset with a shiny oversized buckle.

The Tiffany’s slender profile is sophisticated and elegant, but not really very practical. There’s little space for stashing your essentials, so I hope you know how to travel light. While it’s disappointing, it makes the Tiffany’s lack of shoulder strap not so surprising. You wouldn’t want to clutter the interior with a chain when it’s not in use after all. While I often prefer a hands-free carrying option, missing out is in keeping with the Tiffany’s vintage good looks.

It’s easier to accept the Tiffany’s flaws when you peek at the price tag. At just $40, this purse looks much opulent than it really is!

Joseph Ettedgui, British fashion pioneer and the founder of the retail store Joseph, has passed away at the age of 71 after a long battle with cancer.

“We were the three musketeers,” Joseph’s brother Maurice told Women’s Wear Daily of the bond between himself, Joseph, and their brother Franklin. “We worked together all our lives. I’ll remember Joseph for his kindness, his generosity, and his vision. He could see things before anyone else. He was a remarkable man.“

Joseph espoused a simple fashion philosophy, once commenting that “An entire wardrobe can’t be made up of only designer clothes. People need good trousers and good shirts that they wear all the time.”

Joseph sold his majority share in the fashionable retail chain in 1999, but continues to be remembered as one of Britain’s greatest style icons. He is survived by his two brothers, wife Isabel and three children, Gigi, Peter, and Paul.
