There’s something about Miu Miu’s quirky, irreverent approach to design that keeps it both bizarre and elegant. This suede and python clutch is the perfect example.

The pink and black stripes are classic enough to keep this bag timeless. The shade of pink is amazingly well chosen, as one step brighter and I would be thinking “candy striper”. The simple shape of the bag shows off the stripe design and the elegant scalloping on the front flap.

The texture on this clutch is mesmerizing. I love the black python contrasted with the ultra soft suede, and the python bird appliqué really ties the whole thing together. You might think that a snakeskin bird would look patchworky or over the top, but the lovely little swallow just comes off as cool.

This clutch is going to suit a lot of women, from quirky artist types to ladies who lunch just looking for a little sense of humor in their handbag. Unfortunately, at $1,495, not everyone is going to run out and buy one of their own. It’s just a little steep.

The brand is starting small with 12 black leather handbags featuring a curious blend of equestrian and military influences. Fans of Pour La Victoire may be a little disappointed with the prices though. We can expect to see these edgy rock and roll inspired accessories in stores around the world this June.

Betsey Johnson is back to what she does best with this Blingin’ Tiger Tote from her Betseyville line.

Of course, for many bagistas Betsey Johnson’s best is their worst nightmare. It takes a certain kind of girl to warm to this hotter than hot pink cotton canvas tote with its crystal accents. But for those girls, this is a dream bag. The tiger face created with crystals adds attitude and flash, and the tiger stripes down the sides are just the frosting on this very ostentatious cake.

It’s worth mentioning that this Blingin’ Tiger Tote is also available in black, but don’t think that’s a tamer alternative. The rhinestones have an even louder pop against the dark canvas. This is no basic black tote.

The interior is generous, but there aren’t really a lot of surprises. Of course, that doesn’t mean we’re not grateful for the zippered pocket and pair of open pouches Betsey Johnson provides. A magnetic snap closure is hidden inside to keep your possessions safe without interrupting the tote’s exterior.

I tend to prefer more conservative handbags, but strangely enough I don’t hate this. Perhaps its appeal lies in Betsey Johnson’s confidence. Here she’s delivered a bag that’s not trying to be anything that it’s not, and that sassy attitude has to be admired.

While sources earlier this week had Lindsay Lohan touted to design for Ed Hardy, the Hollywood actress has quickly quashed the rumors. Li-Lo took to Twitter to tell fans she planned to focus on her own 6126 label instead.

“FYI … I am NOT designing for Ed Hardy. JUST 6126,” the starlet Tweeted.

I must admit, I’m fairly nonplussed by the development. Lindsay didn’t wow me during her stint as artistic adviser for Ungaro, and Christian Audigier’s colorful Ed Hardy have never really been my cup of chai. Perhaps that would have made the pairing heaven sent, but alas it’s not to be.

Personally I think the move could have increased Lindsay’s profile in the fashion world. Goodness knows that thus far 6126 hasn’t really set the industry alight. Maybe her moves to add handbags and shoes to the collection will change all that, but I won’t hold my breath!

Ed Hardy Bags on eBay

All too often metallic purses look gaudy or garish, but when you find just the right one it can make your little black dress pop. I think this J. Furmani Pleated Metallic Flap Clutch is a real contender for the title.

The secret is the rich pewter color which looks like smooth liquid metal. The pleats create drama, with lights and shadows adding interest to the angular flap. The rhinestone accent on the base of the flap adds more bling than I’d prefer, but the use of clear crystals rather than colored gems helps keep things subtle.

Traditional clutches never offer much storage space, but this one has more room than most. J. Furmani makes this purse long and narrow, so it’s both pretty and practical. You’ll find room inside for the tuck-away chain strap and everything else you need to get through your evening. The strap won’t feel comfortable when you’re wearing that strappy cocktail dress, but it looks gorgeous against the clutch’s metallic body.

There’s very little to fault here, which makes the tiny $30 price tag seem all the more appealing.

It isn’t very often that I come across an affordable (nay, cheap!) handbag that I really really like. However, this KC Malhan sequined clutch costs just $58, and looks lovely.

$58 I hear you ask? And it is fair to question it! However, despite the fact that most handbag designers feel they have to charge a lot for any evening bags they produce, the actually materials aren’t that different. The main distinction is that these sequins are just likely to fall off a lot faster!

However, aside from the materials being cheaper, the design is actually very stylish. It isn’t particular on-trend if that is your priority, but personally I think the Grecian inspired pattern and combination of golds, reds and silvers makes for a very attractive bag indeed. Even better, it is different from the rest, and you should stand out (and glitter) in any crowd!

With a silver lining and original looks, this is a great budget bag for people who still want to have fun, even if there is no strap to carry it with!

Woven black bags aren’t exactly revolutionary, but a really well done version can definitely be worth spending your money on.

OK, so this Cole Haan tote isn’t high fashion. It isn’t jumping aggressively on the bandwagon of every trend that passes through town. It isn’t even in a bright or unusual color. Despite this, however, I would say that as a general all-round bag this one will last you for years and years thanks to the luxury quality of the materials, and should never really go out of fashion.

The advantage of a timeless bag like this is that you have something that yes, you spent a lot of money on in the first place, but which will stay steadfastly in your life from year to year. Add to this a comfortable and flexible woven leather exterior and you have something easy to carry over all that time too.

The space of this particular Eve tote is a major selling point, and is the final thing that tips me from liking this into loving and respecting it. You can fit everything in, and it is slouchy enough to be easily accommodating.

Smart, sophisticated and a wise investment, this Cole Haan purse is $348 and may well be worth the money.
