It might not have been inspired by Susanna Hoffs’ popular girl group, but there’s more than a touch of the 80s in this Roxy Bangles bag.

The Bangles bag is available in four fun retro prints. The feathery aqua “Ceramic,” colorful “Rfb,” and stripey “Royal Purple” are probably the tamest of the bunch, in more ways than one! Surprisingly my favorite is the daring mishmash of animal prints in this black and white bag. It’s a little bit Cougartown, but with the right confidence and the right outfit I think a woman of any age could rock this look.

The knotted canvas handle is embellished on either side with a bold plastic bangle. Of course, it’s this fun accent which gives the hobo its name. Yes colored plastic is cheap, the kind of detail which fashion snobs will turn their nose up at, but it gives this bargain basement bag real personality.

I’m impressed with all that our $34 buys here. The interior isn’t just spacious; it’s remarkably well appointed. A zippered pocket and pair of open pouches make this more than your average beach bag. In fact, it helps the Bangles double as a casual shopper or day bag.

I see so many celebrities toting their Louis Vuitton bags to the beach and cringe. This hobo might not be as fashionable, but I know what I’d rather expose to the sand and salty sea air!

Rather than using the label’s favorite fabrics silk and satin, Inge Christopher has opted for heavier suede here. It might seem like a strange choice for an evening bag at first, but no other material could create the structured shirred flap quite like this. It’s dramatic and daring, a welcome change from the tired old traditional closures we’ve seen.

The fabric’s uniqueness goes beyond the choice of suede though. Look closely and you’ll see the subtle silver ripples peeking through the embossed material. The delicate detail is guaranteed to attract a second glance when you make your grand entrance!

The Margo Ripple is a generously sized evening purse. How refreshing to find a nighttime bag which can actually fit the essentials inside! The soft walls mean you might even be able to squeeze in a few luxuries!

The $270 price tag is a little hard to take, but if this same bag was sold by a more renowned European fashion house I probably wouldn’t bat an eye. Perhaps it’s best to break my budget and embrace the Margo Ripple’s dramatic style!

If you are looking for an expensive and classy bag for your wedding, then why not consider this Menbur clutch?

First off, I  must mention that this isn’t a cheap purse; it costs a massive $633! This is probably partially because it is designed as a wedding clutch (and all wedding items have a price hike), but it is also due to the mesh of amber crystals that cover the outside. Few evening bags are cheap anyway, but when they are literally dripping with crystals and sparkles they get even more costly.

Although it is expensive, I do like the look of those gems. I especially like them in combination with the decoration on the front, raised bumps that let the light reflect off even more dramatically. As the bag is already quite noticeable, it is probably a good thing that Menbur has kept the decoration simple!

With a long optional strap and sumptuous gold satin lining, this is without doubt a pretty purse. What it really comes down to, however, is how it looks with your wedding dress!

Salvatore Ferragamo will open the doors to its new flagship store in Shanghai late next month. At 680 meters squared, it will be the brand’s largest store in the Asia-Pacific region.

The boutique will carry all the usual Ferragamo products and the only Creation Corner in China. This exclusive section will sell the brand’s quirky museum line known as the Creations collection.

Salvatore Ferragmo will release a limited edition handbag, available exclusively at the Shanghai store, to commemorate its opening.

While bigger isn’t always better, Salvatore Ferragamo might just steal Coach’s thunder next month. Both designers are opening flagship stores in Shanghai at roughly the same time, but Ferragamo’s boutique dwarfs Coach’s 650 meter square space. The designers will need to compete for the loyalty of Shanghai’s bagistas, but for shoppers the choice of new luxury players can only be a good thing.

The trend for studded bags might be waning, but don’t tell Steve Madden that! This BDazzle hobo puts the edgy accents up front and center!

BDazzle by name and BDazzle by nature, this is one hobo that doesn’t do things by halves. The front of the purse is covered in literally hundreds of the shiny accents. The metal really pops on the black bag, but it’s not much subtler on silver or white synthetic.

If you love studs, this is your purse. That’s why it’s so disappointing that the back is completely plain. Perhaps Steve Madden should have spread the metal out, rather than overdosing on the studs up front! I suppose we could argue that carrying the BDazzle with the plain side out gives you a whole new look, but it’s so pedestrian that that seems a stretch.

I suppose by cutting corners here, Steve Madden can keep the price down without skimping on the practicalities. The fabric lining isn’t the world’s most luxurious, but it does the job. The dimensions are very generous, allowing us to carry large items like a chunky wallet, glossy magazine, and water bottle with space to spare.

At $88.95, this Steve Madden purse is a relatively affordable way to enjoy the tail end of the studded trend.

Louis Vuitton’s case against Google has come to a close, with the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg ruling in favor of the internet search engine.

The ruling states that Google has not violated trademark law by selling brand-name keywords to the design house’s competitors. But it’s not all good news for the internet search engine.

New restrictions state that brand name keywords cannot be used to promote businesses associated with counterfeit products. This could have major ramifications for Google and its AdWords advertisers.

“While these rulings improve Google’s legal position against trademark owners, the news isn’t uniformly good for the keyword advertising industry,” explained Eric Goldman, an Associate Professor of Law at Santa Clara University School of Law. “The opinion identifies a number of potential legal pitfalls for keyword advertisers.“

While Google has avoided paying Louis Vuitton now, the ruling may still see the brand take a hit. It’s predicted the search engine’s revenue will decrease with advertisers more concerned than ever about their legal exposure.

The case may be over, but I predict we’ll be talking about the fallout of this ruling for some time to come.

Cole Haan puts a stylish spin on the traditional hobo with the Prudence bag.

In a world of tightly woven purses, the much larger weave of the Prudence really stands out. It might not follow the trends, but that’s exactly why I like it. The north/south orientation of the hobo and the woven finish gives the Prudence more structure than the typical hobo. This too works in the bag’s favor, giving it a more luxurious feel than its boho counterparts.

That makes the tassel accent a curious choice. Tassels are typical of bohemian styled fashion, but that doesn’t seem to have been the look Cole Haan was aiming for here. It clutters the purse’s exterior, stealing our attention away from the wicker finished Italian leather. At least in a complementary shade it’s a little easier to ignore.

It’s not the largest hobo around with its sophisticated slender profile, but it does hold a surprising amount. Pockets in both side walls can take care of your cell phone, PDA, and other valuables, leaving the rest of the jacquard lined interior for your other daily essentials.

At $428 the Prudence is a little expensive, but I think it’d be a great investment piece. The style’s got a few twists, but it’s elegant enough to wear for several seasons.

Marc Jacobs makes bags that women everywhere covet. The Marc by Marc Jacobs line is replete with hot, young accessories while the Marc Jacobs line hits a more sophisticated demographic. The Hillier hobo walks the line between both.

The pebbled leather of the bag gives the hobo shape a more classic appeal, as does the elongated structure, but the large grommets keep the Hillier looking new and modern. I’m not really a fan of the rolled leather handle, and I think it looks a little awkward on this bag. A flat strap would have been more attractive, not to mention more functional. But at least it comes with a shoulder strap, which I love.

The pleating at the front of the Hillier gives it a feminine, almost girlish charm that makes it seems more casual. This is a fabulous everyday bag for someone who wants something clean and cute that is also functional. At $400, it has a competitive price for a designer bag, but honestly, I’d rather have it for $200.

This cute colorful tote is a great and fun alternative to the normally stuffy signature totes.

Whilst the Coach Poppy range is intended as a budget option, most people would accept that $265 isn’t exactly bargain basement. However, you do at least get something remarkable and different for the money, rather than something everyday. Not only do you have bright cartoon applique against the signature Coach patterned fabric, but you even get glitzy straps; it is great fun!

As always, the shape of this large tote is eminently functional, and rather work friendly. More work friendly, in fact, than you would have assumed from the colored Coach accessories. As it is, folders and books will easily fit in, and as usual there are lots of pockets inside and out with coordinating gold hardware.

Smart, classy and a break from the norm, this Coach tote is a glamorous daytime option.
