Coach walks the wilder path less traveled with this Madison purse. Handbags emblazoned with tiger stripes and python scales are almost commonplace these days, so Coach takes its inspiration from the spots of the snow leopard!

The result is a bag more sedate than many adopting animal prints. While most delight in colorful contrasts, here we see a more muted mix of black, gray, white, and silver. The Coach name is subtly nestled amongst the spots, a little nod to the brand but one that doesn’t overwhelm the design.

The appeal of this Madison hobo goes beyond its slightly slouchy good looks though. Playful purple satin lines the sizable interior, which is well appointed with two slip pouches for girly gadgets and a zip pocket for small valuables. It’s a relatively roomy space, but not one that’s unmanageably so.

A collection of straps offers a couple of carrying options. In standard mode, the leather strap can easily fit over one shoulder. When you’re on the go just add the longer strap and you’ve got a cross-body bag. I’d prefer the original strap was detachable for a cleaner look in cross-body mode, but it’s a minor complaint.

At $279 this purse isn’t cheap, but the price tag isn’t likely to startle Coach’s loyal fans.

Ellington gives the traditional backpack a modern makeover with the Laurel.

The revamp is purely aesthetic, with sleek, clean lines giving the Laurel an almost futuristic appearance. I love the look, but think it’s a shame Ellington haven’t offered us more cutting edge colors. This conservative tan shade is frankly drab, and a less than ideal match for the red stitching and zipper pulls.

Backpacks have always been practical, and this one’s no exception. Nylon may not be a luxurious choice, but it helps make the Laurel light enough to carry all day. It’ll be comfortable enough to do just that, with both straps adjustable to create the perfect fit. Zip pockets at the front and back can carry the items you want on hand, and the main compartments are large enough to carry textbooks, important documents, and other office and school essentials.

Backpacks are never high fashion items, but the Laurel’s distinct looks are more stylish than its peers. While it might not convince High Street fashionistas, its $55 price tag makes it an appealing prospect for down-to-earth girls on the go.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has launched a new campaign reminding the stars that wearing genuine exotic skin fashions is just as unethical as wearing real fur.

Celebs including Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Victoria Beckham were all sent this video urging them to reject clothing and accessories made from snake, crocodile, and other exotic animals.

“Did you know that mother snakes keep their eggs warm by wrapping their bodies around the eggs and then shivering to generate heat?” asked Joaquin Phoenix, who put his face to the campaign. “Exotic animals are mostly unknown to us, and so is what they suffer before being turned into belts and bags.“

I must admit, before PETA took a stance I didn’t really think of the double standard. I’d never wear fur, but I’ve coveted authentic snakeskin accessories. Yet really no animal should give its life for fashion, should it? After all, with brands like Abas and Jessica Simpon’s own label creating lustworthy alternatives for less, faux snake is looking pretty appealing!

Matt & Nat have always been great at using unusual recycled materials to create stylish bags. Sometimes their designs err on the side of caution, but with the Laroux clutch they have thrown that to the wind and just decided to go wild. I for one am pleased with the fact that the vegan-friendly designers have decided to branch out. The shape is lovely, especially with the bordering of zips, and studs haven’t gone out of fashion yet. It is fair to ask whether a more structured look would have worked better, but that is just personal taste.

Inside and out this is a functional purse, which has lots of pockets and a long handle to boot. I think a fabric handle would perhaps have looked better, but at least you have one at all.

It costs $185, but with so few fully vegan quality bags on the market it is a great choice.

A new auction site is doing its best to lure luxury lovers away from eBay. Oohilove.com offers incredible bargains on some of our favorite brands. Just last week a Gucci Interlocking Hobo Handbag went for a mere $13 (including sale price and bids), a fraction of its $1134 retail value.

It all sounds too good to be true, but CEO Chris Couhault assures us it’s definitely not. The site uses a new pay-to-bid auction model; you buy a package of bids for 99 cents each and then bid on the luxury items that catch your eye. The goodies increase in value by two cents every time someone bids, at which time the auction is extended by 10 seconds. When there are just 30 seconds left things get really exciting. The auction duration is capped at 30 seconds, but the bids start to fly. You’ll need to be one cool customer and wait until the last second to take home the goods!

There are a number of cool features which make this site a cut above the average auction house. You can track the bidding history of your competitors to scrutinize their auction style, and use the Bid Assistant to automatically bid for you. It’s a great idea if you’ve got a busy schedule, or a computer that’s prone to crashing!

The prices people are paying for purses from Prada, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton are just incredible. Something tells me this site could be very addictive.

It seems like Hobo International purses just keep getting better and better. Once the stable of basic but boring bags, the brand has now learned how to jazz up its classic shapes with contemporary accents.

The Alene shoulder bag is an excellent example of Hobo International’s fresh new approach. The slightly curved corners and edgy angular seams help to take this bag from classic to cutting edge. The colors too are something new; red wine and this yellow yam shade are a far cry from basic black and brown.

But don’t think Hobo International has completely forgotten its roots. While so many designer labels care for style over substance, we can count on this brand for its practicality. Considering its medium size, I was surprised to find a whopping four pockets inside. If you’re still feeling short changed, just look on the back; there’s another zippered compartment there.

Sadly though, that’s all you’ll find on the back. While I’ll rarely complain about more pockets, I’d rather have seen Hobo International continue those beautiful pleats on the back. It makes the design look a little unfinished, which is a great shame. That sticking point prevents this solid Hobo International offering from being sensational.
