Gucci is bringing back its iconic Bamboo Bag for a brand new limited edition line.

The original Gucci Bamboo was released way back in 1947. The Japanese bamboo accented purse quickly became one of the world’s first It bags in the 1950s and 60s.

Taking its cues from this historical handbag, the new Bamboo combines Gucci’s traditions with modern innovation. Just as it was in 1947, the bag is crafted from pig skin. But today’s version is treated in a modern way to create brand new textures. There’s also a sporty neoprene option and an exotic python bag for bagistas who love luxury.

Whether you’re opting for snakeskin or not, the new Bamboo bags are not cheap. Prices range from €1, 300 to a whopping €13, 000. It’s hard to justify those sorts of price tags, but keep in mind that each handbag takes 13 hours to make. There are also just 140 available, so the cost also guarantees you real exclusivity.

When a bag is called a Bitsy, it’s no surprise to find it’s very small. That is sure to polarize fashion fans; packrats will long for more storage space while busy girls will love its lightweight design. Those very same girls will likely warm to its long, adjustable shoulder strap which helps the Bitsy convert from shoulder bag to cross-body purse.

While there are a lot of things to love about this tiny purse, the price isn’t one of them. I’m struggling to work out why Ed Hardy thinks this bag is worth the $165 it asks for. It’s only made from synthetic and nylon, and there’s very little of that after all!

There’s no doubt about it, Marc Jacobs is a trendsetter. His designs are always fashion forward and completely ahead of the pack. Being a trendsetter, however, means that sometimes his designs aren’t well received. I have a feeling that this Parachute bag is going to be one of those misunderstood accessories.

Let’s be honest here. This bag was never meant to please the masses. It’s loud, it’s shiny, it’s metallic, and it’s got a voluminous, nightclubby feel to it that just won’t work for the average Jane. But despite it’s foibles, it really is a fun bag. The puffy shape and pleating take the space age appearance of the fabric to a totally new level.

This bag has almost endless details to be discussed. From the snake print detail to the chain strap, I can barely look at it without finding some, new fun something to look at. Even the hardware has an unusual, utilitarian look that adds a little touch of funky to an already funky bag.

Overwhelming as it is, this bag definitely has an audience amongst a hip, young, flashy set.

Instead, Lauren Merkin uses a thin and simple row of on-trend studs to add some attitude to what is otherwise quite a sophisticated satchel-style tote. The studs are slightly edgy, but not so over-the-top that you can’t use it for work, and when you are paying $575 this is the sort of versatility that matters. Some will wish those studs were in silver shades, but style rebels will like the bronze against the gray.

This is a spacious and stylish bag that manages to combine the trends with function and an effortless eternal fashion sense. You don’t see this often, and although the price is high I am tempted to think this may be an investment.
