Why carry a bag made from just any old billboard, when you can carry one made of a recycled movie poster? Modulab takes old vinyl movie advertisements and turns them into totes, handbags, and wallets for pop culture junkies. As movie posters are so large, the bags feature extreme actor close-ups and movie fonts. This makes the bags look quite abstract, and utterly original.

Designers Pamela Castro and Filepe Ferrer source the billboards from their native Chile to minimize their carbon footprint. The bright and unique prints make the classic Modulab designs really pop. They’re practical too, with the fabric ensuring the bags are durable and waterproof. Each is lined and trimmed with cotton, and appointed with several interior pockets for organization.

Modulab is also a socially conscious company too, committed to creating its bags locally in Chile using Fair Trade certified practices.

French actress Marion Cotillard has winged her way to Shanghai for the latest Christian Dior advertisement. The exciting image continues the series starring Marion as the jetsetting secret agent Lady Dior. Steven Klein shot the advertisement, which is titled Lady Blue.

This advertisement is the third in the four chapter series. To coincide with its release, a 12-minute film, also starring Marion Cotillard, will debut on Ladydior.com on May 15. With screen legend David Lynch at the helm, it should be something to see.

May 15 will be a big day for Christian Dior, as the brand will also showcase its cruise collection in Shanghai. Where else?

Head designer John Galliano seems to be reveling in the synchronicity of these marketing endeavors.

“In the David Lynch film, Marion is reciting a poem that he wrote, and was inspired by the Pearl Tower itself,” he explained. “The words and building fuse in the picture he paints on-screen. Shanghai is such a vibrant and inspiring city.“

I’ve loved all of these Lady Dior ads, and the newest addition is no exception. I wonder where Marion Cotillard will turn up in the final installment!

When I spotted this Mario briefcase I could barely believe it was made by Bally. Where is the personality and pizzazz? While this office bag may not be what we expect from the brand, it definitely does the job.

While its lack of flair may disappoint Bally fans at first, we must remember what that job is. When we consider the stuffy environments of most workplaces, we realize the classic design of this dark brown calfskin bag is entirely appropriate. Hardware is kept to a minimum, which only makes the lockable circle clasp look more appealing. It adds interest and an old world appeal to this Bally briefcase.

But we all know a briefcase must offer more than a conservative exterior. We need an interior which makes our work day easier, with the zip and slip pockets Bally provides. And we definitely need that longer cross-body strap for our daily commute. It’s much more practical than the short handle, but that will be enough for taking your bag from your office to the board room.

The biggest stumbling block is the price; at more than $1000 this is not a briefcase for an intern. But if you’re climbing the corporate ladder, this Bally bag could be just the thing.

Christian Louboutin is a megalith in the fashion accessories world. He basically brought back the stiletto, and his signature red-soled heel is as iconic as any object I can think of. Thankfully, he also does for handbags what he does for shoes.

This is one of the most interesting evening bags I have seen in a long while. At first I thought it was made of perforated metal, but it’s just that the sequins are so intricate that it looks hole-punched. Even though it’s made of leather and sequins, it has a naturally occurring look to it, like seashells or wood grain. Louboutin has made sequins into a thing of natural beauty.

The silver quilted leather behind the sequins is inventive in itself. The pillowy way that the leather pokes in between the sequined circle appliqués gives it a nice balance of hard and soft. The gold metal hardware and frame keep the Carillon from becoming too matchy looking, and as always, the trademark Louboutin stiletto clasp is right on target.

This is a fabulous bag for a fabulous woman with fabulous places to go. She will probably also need a pretty well-stocked bank account, as the price of all this fabulousness is a whopping $1,150; a little steep for a bag that is really only worthy of black tie.

Lanvin is the oldest surviving couture house in Paris. Everyone thinks that it’s Chanel, but Lanvin predates Chanel by ages. Lucky Brand takes the bowler bag to a down south diner with this Roadside Attraction.

It’s an inspired take on the bowler. The distinctive domed shape of these handbags tends to take us back to the swinging sixties, but with a few cleverly chosen accents this one gets a Western vibe. The whipstitch trim, lacy details, and ruffles along the top help to create a bowler that’s more rustic than its contemporaries.

The curved pair of handles look great, but they’re a little shorter than I’d like. Most girls should be able to fit the straps over their shoulder, but they’re slightly too short to be really comfortable.

In a recent interview with Stylist magazine, 40-year-old Lulu admitted that she’s become more receptive to the opinions of others as she’s matured.

Lulu has also begun to delegate more work, although the self-confessed control freak struggles to do so!

“It’s been painful but I’ve learnt to delegate. I’ve realized now I can’t manage everything and I get great satisfaction in watching my team develop. The only thing I do insist on is signing off visuals, because the look of my brand is everything.”
