Alexander Wang always strikes the perfect balance between minimalism and rocker chic. He doesn’t flood the market with a bunch of his designs, but instead releases just a few bags that instantly become iconic. The Millie is destined to become one of these.

The practical, squared-off shape of this bag perfectly suits the leopard ponyskin embellishment. The exposed zippers give it a little more edge, and it ends up with sort of a post punk, Blondie sort of feel about it.

But there’s nothing DIY about the Millie except it’s edgy aesthetic. The intricate seaming, buttery leather, and luxurious ponyskin belie its posh status. This is a fabulous everyday bag for a woman who wants to retain her hipsterdom while adding a little punch to an all black wardrobe.

At $875, The Millie is well within reasonability, in terms of designer bags, but for all its punk attitude, shouldn’t it have a less capitalist price tag?

It might be inspired by the King of Rock and Roll, but this gorgeous Presley satchel is more straight-laced handbag than hip swiveling rebel!

It’s not that Treesje doesn’t take a few risks here, but they’re all very well calculated. The curved lines of seams adorning the front panels add interest to the lush Italian lambskin, and the vertical zip pockets are almost edgy. But they’re balanced nicely with more traditional choices. There’s nothing new about the long duffle shape, or the color choices of toffee and wine. Some may complain about Treesje’s uncharacteristic decision to toe the line, but the choice happily makes the Presley appropriate for any workplace.

You might not spy the side pockets at first, but they’re a lovely complement to all the storage space we see inside. It’s big enough to hold important documents, or a resume if you’re climbing the corporate ladder, while the zip and slip pockets can take care of stationary and your Blackberry.

The rolled handles are long enough to suit over-the-shoulder carrying, but it’s still nice to see Treesje add a detachable shoulder strap. This converts the Presley to a cross-body bag for your daily commute.

It’s refreshing to see Treesje dismissing fads and creating a bag that’s truly timeless here, just like the music of Mr Presley himself!

Mulberry’s Alexa Chung inspired Alexa bag just got a whole lot more luxurious with the launch of a limited edition gold variety.

Just 40 of these distressed metallic gold bags were made exclusively for British retailer Selfridges. Gold bags so often look gaudy, but the distressed finish makes the metallic look much more subtle than its peers. Shiny gold hardware is the perfect foil to this surprisingly subdued body.

The bags are priced at £795, which doesn’t seem a bad price for such a good looking, limited edition handbag. They will be available at Selfridges’ Oxford Street, Manchester Trafford and Exchange and Birmingham boutiques and the new Selfridges.com website. No release date has been announced, so it looks like we’ll have to keep our eyes on the website to snap up one of these ultra exclusive beauties!

Elaine Turner is one of those designers whose style I can never seem to pin down. Just as I think the label is best at creating casual beach accessories I spot a bag like the Lainey which makes me change my mind.

This doctor tote is all retro sophistication. The crocodile finish may not be the genuine reptile, but it is authentic leather. Lovers of high class luxury may not be satisfied with that, but this cheaper alternative does help us save a bit of cash. The embossing isn’t the best crocodile imitation I’ve seen, but it does give the finish a more opulent appearance than plain leather.

The domed body and shiny turnlock closure make the Lainey look as if its stepped out of a vintage Hollywood movie. The dark colors may not set the fashion world on fire, but they help to maintain the tote’s old-world appeal. Personally I’d choose chocolate, as it’s always a little less predictable than basic black.

Well placed external pockets complement all the space we get inside. I love the practical leather trimmed pockets, and that fun red signature lining.

Elaine Turner fans may find the $475 price tag a little steep, but I think it’s worth it for the high-quality craftsmanship and time-honored style.

A simple evening bag for the affordable price of $59 is always going to be a good option. Finding one in a really unusual shade of royal blue like this is even better.

OK, so this isn’t the most remarkable wristlet. It features a soft folded blue satin body and a typical Menbur styled sparkling embellishment. It’s simple, yes, but also quite elegant, and very easy to coordinate with elegant evening outfits and long gowns. Plus, a satin exterior never goes out of fashion, which manages to make an affordable bag into somewhat of an investment.

Of course, although this has the space of a normal sized clutch, you have to consider that it only has a wrist strap. Although this makes it quite cute, it does mean it will be harder to carry, which is always worth considering! At least you have room for your belongings, and there is a long chain strap if you need an emergency option; it just doesn’t look as neat!

Classy, pretty and with sequins to boot, this is a very pretty clutch!

For the most part, Juicy Couture doesn’t really do it for me. I am not a fan of sparkly, dangly, fussy details on my bags, and I dislike prominent logos. But every now and again the label really surprises me. The Blue Blood Weekend Bag is the perfect example of that.

The fabric of this bag is logo-stamped cotton. Usually, I would balk at a bunch of logos, but they almost look like watermarks on this bag, and I love the royal crest effect. The colorful stripe overlay is what makes the bag interesting to me though. It has a preppy, sporty look that both contrasts with and complements the brown base.

I am also a major fan of the tan leather straps and edges. Brown and tan together always remind me of horses and posh racing events, which makes sense with a name like Blue Blood. Even the stamped clasp looks horsey, in a good way.

The best thing about the Blue Blood is its reasonable price. $350 is amazing for such attractive luggage.

Lanvin can make things work that seem totally contradictory. If you had tried to describe for me a bag that looks both antique and modern, that is made of brown pebbled leather but doesn’t look sloppy boho, that will work for day or night, I probably would have scoffed.

But the Genereux leather shoulder bag is all these things. It is so many things, in fact, that I wonder what it would work for in real life. The brown leather sets off the chain and jewel link strap perfectly, and the gem clasp is a great touch.

But what’s going on with the chiffon on the strap? It’s kind of killing me with it’s incongruence. I guess because of the small shape Lanvin wanted it to work for evening, but I’m just not convinced that this bag needed silk chiffon and grosgrain.

Luckily, all of the parts of the strap are removable, so you can break this baby down to its beautiful bare bones if you so desire. I would rock it with long dresses and giant necklaces. Unfortunately, at $1,610, I won’t be rocking it with anything.

This drawstring bag has a slightly hippie-like feel to it. This means it looks nice, but it also appears relaxed and casual; more of a bag for the weekends than for business office environments. This is probably why the label has chosen the slouchy round style, as it is visually interesting as well as comfortable for you, and forgiving for your belongings.

Drawstring bags don’t offer you as much security as a more traditional bag with a zip or clasp. However, you still get a functional magnetic closure in addition to the woven tie, which should protect you against pickpockets a little more. Add to this a handle of a reasonable length and flexible leather comfort and you have a purse that actually achieves functionality, although not if you want to carry folders!

This slouchy look is becoming a signature style for The SAK, and if you want to own one it will cost you a fair $139.
