In a world of oversized handbags, the cute and compact Full-Flap Multi-Compartment Purse from Mywalit really stands out.

When I received this bag I was immediately struck by its pint-sized luxury. The Italian leather finish is one of the softest I’ve ever felt, the kind I’m sure will only improve in age. While the flap over design and simple shape seem conservative, the rainbow colors inside give it real personality. Lime green and orange yellow hues clash so delightfully with the staid exterior.

This isn’t an everyday bag, at least not for girls like me. There’s not a lot of storage room, which may initially put a lot of people off. Strangely though, this is also one of the aspects I grew to love. It might be a small bag, but it packs a real organizational punch. There are three zippered pockets inside; I used one for my change, another for my cell phone, and the last for my keys. I even managed to slip a lipstick inside on a night out. Two open pouches behind these take care of dollar bills and receipts, and the seven card slots were more than I needed. Of course, packing all that in does add a bit of bulk, but when you close it with the magnetic snap you’ll barely notice.

The extra long strap gives us the choice of over-the-shoulder toting or cross-body wear. You can also attach it to a belt when you’re out and about, or tuck the strap away and carry it like a clutch. Personally I prefer it cross-body, but it’s lovely to have all those options. The strap is skinnier than I often prefer, but the leather is such good quality I’m confident it’ll last. After all, you won’t be loading this purse up so it’ll never really be under pressure.

This Mywalit bag will never replace my larger everyday totes. They’re invaluable when I’m out and about as they hold everything I need, and anything I think I might! But when I need to step out for a shorter time, for lunch with the girls or a concert with my husband, this is bound to become my go-to accessory. It doesn’t weigh me down, and its classic appearance suits daytime and evening wear. Whoever said good things come in small packages clearly knew what they were talking about!

Chanel is helping cashed up luxury lovers get ready for summer with the launch of this bocce ball set.

The set of eight stainless steel balls are all engraved with the Chanel trademark. The balls and a wooden jack are packaged up in a summery woven wicker and leather case. The case also features the interlocking Cs cleverly rendered in braided rope on the lid.

With its brown saddle leather accents and wicker finish, this Chanel case reminds me of an old-fashioned picnic basket. It’s got a lovely vintage vibe to it, but I’m not sure that justifies the $2800 asking price. Although considering this comes from Chanel, I’m not at all surprised by that hefty price tag!

It’s hard to rationalize a splurge unless you’re a serious bocce nut. But if you’re looking for a way, consider this. Alexa Chung has been spotted carrying the bocce case as an ordinary handbag. If it’s good enough for Alexa, perhaps the wicker case could work double-time for the rest of us!

In a world of unisex styled messengers, this delicate Blossom bag from Mellow World really stands out.

Rather than the traditional flap-over style we’ve come to associate with messengers, this one features a simpler shape with pretty daisy cut-outs. These art-deco styled blooms are laid over a tan ramie background. The flowers are feminine without being fussy, and right on trend for spring. Tiny studs in the center of each blossom are another nod to current styles.

While I love the unique direction Mellow World has taken the messenger, the tiny dimensions are a little disappointing. This isn’t a messenger for toting your documents to the office, or textbooks to class. But it would look cute on those days, or evenings, you’re happy to travel light.

The Blossom is small in stature, but it’s packed with features which make the most of its size. A zippered pocket divides the interior into three separate sections. This envelope can take care of your cash, while the eight credit card slots can handle your essential cards. This eliminates the need for a wallet, which makes for one less thing you have to carry.

It won’t suit everyday use, but at $36.95 this Blossom bag doesn’t have to. I’d use it to add a little femininity to your favorite T-shirt and jeans or complement a floaty sundress.

We’ve all seen affordable handbag brands creating homages to luxury lines, so it’s refreshing to see the high-end designers getting in first. No mere designer imitation, Alexander Wang has created this affordable tote in the style of his popular Coco duffle.

The bag was created to celebrate Opening Ceremony’s new Ace Hotel boutique. It uses black canvas instead of luxury buffalo leather, but that studded base is unmistakeably Alexander Wang.

Maison Martin Margiela has an aesthetic that is impossible to predict and growing in popularity. He has managed to combine minimalism and experimentalism in a way that is somehow accessible to a wide audience. This clutch is a fabulous, and bizarre, example.

I am having a really hard time wrapping my head around the appearance of this bag. It looks like a plastic-aluminum candy wrapper, but it’s made out of patent leather. I literally cannot fathom how they managed to make the leather that shiny, but it is simply extraordinary.

The shape is also amazing. Earlier today I really didn’t know that I wanted a handbag shaped like disposable packaging, but now I’m not sure that I can live without it. It’s so tongue-in-cheeky and perfectly rendered and also quite pretty at the same time. I’m hooked. The serrated edges are the piece de resistance. And, it’s even lined in silver!

The only thing I don’t like about the bag, besides the $1,035 price tag is the size. It’s just a little too big to carry comfortably when full. Honestly, though, if I had the money, I’d just deal with the discomfort.

With its Freebird line, The SAK takes the hobo back to his boho roots with this Spirited bag.

This hobo unashamedly oozes Native American style from its contrast stitching to its rainbow colored bead accents. Some might suggest The SAK takes the look a tad too far with its wooden bird mandala and dream catcher keychain, but these trinkets are happily removable.

The Spirited’s coolly casual appearance is balanced with a practical design which doesn’t skimp on modern conveniences. The playful pink lining has a trio of open slips for gadgets and a secure zippered pocket in the back wall. In the rear of the bag you’ll find another pocket for holding your cell. As a girl who rarely hears her ringing cell phone when she’s out and about, I think this is a great touch. I’d simply feel it vibrating against my body, and never miss a call again! An attachable cross-body strap gives us another carrying option for days on the go.

In tan and cognac, The SAK maximizes the Spirited’s indigenous appeal. I can’t imagine a real Shaman toting a lipstick pink or turquoise purse, but these shades are fun choices if you don’t mind breaking the rules.

OK, so the BGrace tote isn’t the first ruffled handbag to hit the shops in the past few years. However, this Steve Madden handbag is worth a mention for a few features that make it an individual.

First off, most bags tend to have large oversized ruffles these days. Instead, this particular example has multiple layers of small delicate ruffles, which makes it a lot more complex and quite distinctive. Add to that the stylish and ever popular metallic silver shade, and the on-trend studs, and you have something that stands apart from the crowd.

Of course, many will find the plethora of ruffles to be a bit much. However, unlike many over-the-top design features, this doesn’t actually detract from the practicality, and you still get a spacious tote space and comfy handles. You don’t get real leather, but for $98.95 we have come to accept that.

With a bit of a rock edge, this Steve Madden tote is a flirty one for the girls.

Smart, sophisticated and subtly stylish, this brown purse is a very elegant choice.
