San Francisco-based footwear label Corso Como will release handbags for the first time this fall.

The company will offer two collections in association with HBA Accessories: a high-end range called Corso Como and an affordable diffusion line known as Ciao Bella.

The luxurious Corso Como collection features 15 leather handbags in a range of sizes and colors. Opt for a neutral toned tote during the day, then choose a more daring brightly hued or metallic clutch once the sun goes down! The Corso Como bags will cost between $168 and $368, while the wallets will be priced from $48 to $128. You’ll find them at high-end department stores including Bloomindale’s and Nordstrom.

The Ciao Bella line trades luxury leather for more affordable manmade alternatives. This sees the accessories priced between $48 and $98. You’ll find the Ciao Bella bags at Macy’s, Kohl’s, Bon-Ton, and other department stores.

After swooning over Helena de Natalio’s oversized slouchy handbags, I figured it was time to take a look at something smaller and more structured. Meet the Giselle clutch.

It may be a very different accessory, but it’s no less impressive. It has a really modern look, with chevron stripes of smooth leather contrasting with an exotic embossed skin. By using similar tones Helena de Natalio has created a contemporary answer to patchwork. This unique look is paired with edgy zig zag stitching and a foldover zippered top.

The contemporary styling of the Giselle would suit day wear, but the delicate leather means this is more of a special occasion accessory. You’ll need to handle it with care, as you might a cashmere sweater or fine gold chain.

Thankfully when you do carry it though, you’ll enjoy more size than the average. Packrats will invariably need to leave a few things behind, but it should have enough room to carry everything you really need for a party or red carpet event.

There are a few sticking points which won’t see it working for everybody though. There’s no shoulder strap, a real shame when the canapés are being passed around. It also costs $250. The high-quality leather and unique styling perhaps justify that price, but it’s still quite hefty for a clutch that will never stack up to everyday wear.

Miu Miu’s quirky approach to fashion has made the label a staple in the wardrobes of cutting edge fashionistas for decades. I usually swoon for almost everything the line puts out, but honestly, I’m not feeling this bag. There’s just something not quite right about it.

The cat print on the bag is interesting, but it kind of reminds me of crazy cat lovers who just have to have cats on everything. Which is fine, I guess, but it doesn’t really scream sophistication, and it isn’t really quirky enough for me to love that aspect of it. Also, the gathers in the bag pull the cats in awkward directions and cut them off oddly.

The rhinestone clasp would be a lovely touch, but it sort of gets lost here amongst all the floating cats. It’s a shame, because it is a lovely embellished closure that would really make a simpler bag.

I love the soft shape of the bag and the structured hinged frame, so if there were simply another print option, I might be in love. But I’m not. Especially for $795. Quirkiness should come at a cheaper premium, I think, in this case.

Celestina makes accessories that are equal parts art and fashion. Well, maybe that’s not exactly true. Personally, I think the label swerves a little to the side of art, but in the most fashionable way possible.

This clutch reminds me of an impressionist landscape. The colors are muted but memorable. They are hand-painted on luxurious stingray, and the pebbled texture of the leather looks something like canvas. The black edging around the closure frames the top of the bag, and the full effect is extraordinary.

The shape of this box clutch is exciting and new. The bent in barrel shape has a softness to it that is unusual in a hard case. The size, like all of Celestina’s clutches, is meant to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. No trendy oversized notions here.

At $990, you really have to think of this bag as a work of art in order to justify it. The remarkable craftsmanship is totally worth the price, but in this economy, spending that much on bag that you can’t use that often is a little hard to take. Celestina is for serious collectors only.

This stylish traditional tote just goes to show that little-known designers can produce some wonderful looking bags.

The Jesselli Couture purse that we have before us is one such case in point. I don’t know about you, but I have never actually heard of Jesselli, but I am starting to wish that I knew about this label before! Its Grand Buco tote is one of the nicest punched leather bags I have seen in a long time, as it avoids that temptation with this genre of bag to completely over-embellish. Instead, it has let stylish minimal cutouts speak for themselves, and I think the risk has paid off.

Of course, just because you haven’t heard of a designer before doesn’t mean that you will get it cheap. The quality leather on this piece, for example, means that you will have to shell out nigh on $200. If you are hoping for an investment bag, however, then that cost really isn’t over the top, and you get plenty of space for the price. This oversized beauty even offers some design flexibility, with fold in top corners.

Stylish, traditional and very luxurious, this tote will bring a hint of cowboy style to any outfit.

Soapbox channels all of the charm of the Orient for its the Singapore Carpet Bag.

The term carpet bag is a bit of a misnomer of course, as unlike the carpet bags of old it’s not made from carpet at all. The satiny material is much more sophisticated though, so I’m happy to forgive Soapbox for its mistitling. At least it’s got a suitably Asian print as all good carpet bags should.

And the interior is surprisingly well appointed for a frame bag. The fully lined space is equipped with elastic loops of various sizes to hold your cell phone, lipstick, pens, and sunglasses in place. There are also two zippered pockets for the valuables which crave more security.

I also love the satiny strap, which while skinny should feel much more comfortable on your shoulder than a traditional metal chain would.

If I had any gripes it’s the lack of choice Soapbox offers us. This basic black design is perfectly acceptable, an elegant option and one that’s easy to coordinate with any ensemble. But I’d love to see a few more prints and colors on offer all the same.

Green designers Angelina Rennell and Ashley Watson have combined their artistic talents for the release of two limited-edition bags.

Each eco-friendly handbag is crafted from Rennell’s signature handprinted organic cotton canvas. Each is handmade by Watson in her native Vancouver, Canada, who adds her iconic reclaimed leather trim and straps to the designs.

The Duffel, with its blue Ikat Cat print, has a convenient two-way double-zip top and an adjustable detachable strap for easy carrying. Its twin, The Auklet has a slightly glitzier brushed gold print called Helsinki Tent. There are two pockets inside the generous interior, which closes with a magnetic snap.

I love the way the deliciously chocolatey leather helps to dress up the casual canvas finish. The combination helps to make both bags suitable for everyday use. They’ll never work on the red carpet, but they should suit a more formal setting than your typical canvas handbag might.

Samsonite takes a break from its more serious travel accessories with the Frisky Tiger Duffel Bag. Part of the brand’s children’s line Sammie’s, this cute duffel is ideal for pint-sized jetsetters.

While adult bags might have featured just tiger stripes, the Frisky Tiger takes it a couple of steps further. There’s an adorable tiger face on one end, and a long tiger tail on the other! The dark brown handles complement the bag’s brown tiger stripes.

This cloth bag is washable so sticky fingers and spilled juice boxes are no match for it. Sadly though you’ll need to take care of those stains by hand as this duffel won’t survive a trip through the washing machine.

The Frisky Tiger is a sizable duffel, which is both a blessing and a curse. On the plus side, it should hold everything kids need from clothes to crayons. But it’s so bulky that the young children that love this bag probably won’t be able to carry it. If the same features were placed on a smaller duffle, or even an easier-to-carry backpack, it would be much more user-friendly. Perhaps moms and dads won’t mind carrying this duffel for their rugrat, but something tells me they’ve probably get their own luggage to worry about!

It’s a bit of a novelty, but at $26.95 it won’t matter if your kids outgrow the frisky Tiger before too long.

Ralph Lauren says his new boutique on Paris’ Boulevard Saint Germain is more than a store, and he might just be right.

The outlet also features a restaurant called Ralph’s, the designer’s second. Up to 128 diners can enjoy everything from Maryland crab cakes to All-American burgers.

While the store captures the brand’s American essence, it also oozes European elegance with its stylish décor. New life was breathed into the former aristocratic home using traditional techniques to maintain its design integrity. Even the wooden artisan details and floors were treated using the methods used to create the features in the 17th century.

This space isn’t just beautiful and historical; it’s also the largest Ralph Lauren store on the continent. So much room means shoppers can comfortably search for handbags, watches, vintage jewelry, and men’s and women’s fashions spread out over five floors.

The project took three years to complete, and if early reception is anything to go by it seems like it was worth the wait.
