Stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe is taking the next natural step and becoming a designer. The woman responsible for the signature looks of Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, and a host of other Hollywood starlets recently inked a deal with LF USA to design a comprehensive fashion line.

Not so originally titled The Rachel Zoe Collection, the fashion range will feature apparel, shoes, handbags, and other accessories.

“Subconsciously or consciously, my whole final goal – I don’t want to say final because that sounds very like it’s the end – but I would say my ultimate dream scenario was to be on the design side,” Ms. Zoe said.

Rachel Zoe made the kind of splash that celebrity stylists rarely enjoy, and I wonder whether her strong fashion sense will translate to her fashion line. We all know there’s a big difference between working with already established fashions and creating your own, but I’m still intrigued to see what she comes up with.

Prezzo gives us fringe, and plenty of it, in this eye-catching purse.

Rather than using the fringe as an accent, Prezzo makes this boho embellishment the main act. If you like fringe, you’re going to love this, and if you don’t this purse probably won’t change your mind.

It’s easy to criticize a bag as obvious as this, but I think Prezzo has made some smart choices here. While it’s called a hobo, Prezzo resists giving us the slouchy crescent shape we expect of this type of bag. The more basic box shape is a more striking choice; it lets the fringe hang neatly without getting caught up in a slouchy fabric. Keeping the purse free of other embellishments ensures it doesn’t look cluttered, except perhaps by more and more fringe!

It’s a well designed handbag too, with ample space for your belongings and clever features. I like the addition of a zippered pocket on the back of the bag; it’ll sit snugly against your body as extra protection for your valuables. We have the choice of using the dual shoulder straps or the much longer detachable cross-body strap.

This bronze shade is a lovely muted metallic, and the chocolate brown shade is also gorgeous. I could have done without the animal print options though; in giraffe or zebra there’s just too much going on for my tastes. Still, I respect Prezzo for offering something to suit traditionalists and less conservative fashion fans!

Jessica Jensen gets arty with this $198 luxury clutch.

It is nice to see some creativity coming into the world of woven leather handbags. Whilst other areas of the fashion industry have been playing around with the effects created by woven strips of different colors or textures, the handbag world has preferred to stick to single fabrics building a luxury texture. However, to see a clever design like this achieved so simply makes me wonder if maybe we have been missing a trick.

Aside from the fading yellow pattern adorning the right of this wristlet, the rest of the design is perhaps as you would expect. The wrist-strap, in a thin band of leather, is removable, however, and that means this is as much a clutch as it is a tiny purse. The rest is simple and self explanatory, letting that complex exterior really shine through.

Elegant yet effective, Jessica Jensen has used expensive leather to create this great look.
