In a sea of delicate evening purses, a daring clutch like the Rebecca really stands out from the pack.

There’s no missing this style statement with its vivid rainbow colored swatches. These textured asymmetrical pieces bring a bold sense of retro fun. The hot pink gemstone clasp even reminds me of a disco ball. It’s a brave design, but one that is bound to appeal to more than a few 80s fans out there.

The framed interior is fitted out with a red satiny lining which is every bit as bright as the exterior. It’s a simple space, but one which affords us more room than most evening bags. That’s a good thing too, as that delicate tuckaway strap isn’t detachable, so prepare for it to add a bit of clutter when it’s not in use.

Individual style never comes cheaply, but with its synthetic body I expected to pay less than $285 for this. That seems like a lot of dough to spend on a purse which doesn’t offer real luxury, or versatile looks.

French label Givenchy is scrapping its famous catwalk shows in favor of more personal showings.

The brand’s artistic director Riccardo Tisci says he will distill the collection into ten key looks, which will then be shown at an 18th century townhouse in Paris. Individual clients and editors can make appointments to see the line, while other interested parties can view the collection in the look book which will be created for the event.

While many luxury brands have scrapped their runway shows as a cost cutting measures, Tisci assures us that Givenchy’s decision is not financially motivated. In fact, this approach will actually cost more! Instead the brand hopes to make its couture seem even more exclusive and upmarket.

It’s a risky and bold move, but I can definitely see the logic in this brave marketing decision. But only time will tell whether the new approach pays dividends for the luxury French brand.

The Hommage II Boston bag from Samsonite is just the thing for those summer getaways and weekends by the coast.

Whether you’re a frequent flyer, or you just enjoy a sleepover with the girls, it’s hard not to be impressed with this Boston bag’s features. It’s made from denier twill polyamide, a fabric which isn’t as luxurious as leather but is a lot more durable and resistant to stains to boot. I prefer it in olive green, with its contrasting tan leather racing stripe and handles, but there’s also a black on black option if you prefer a more classic look.

It’s got space to spare, so you should have no problems carrying all of the goodies you need to enjoy some time away from home. I probably wouldn’t want to use the short handles once the bag is loaded up to capacity, so thankfully we’ve got a few more carrying options. There’s an attachable strap which is long enough to suit over-the-shoulder or cross-body wear. The Hommage II is also fitted with inline skate wheels which should roll smoothly about an airport terminal. Or you could use the smart sleeve on the back of bag and slip it over an upright traveling case.

With its regular price tag of $400 this seems to be a bag for serious travelers, but with Amazon discounting it by half it’s currently more attainable for occasional tourists.

Luxury Parisian luggage brand Goyard is releasing a limited edition book celebrating its history. This hefty tome comes packaged in its very own bespoke trunk.

The book reportedly “resonates with and celebrates the golden age of luxury travel, from horse-drawn carriages to the great transatlantic ocean liners.” It was crafted using traditional letterpress techniques, and printed upon watermarked and custom made vellum paper. Art publisher Devambez helped Goyard put together this truly special publication.

Goyard is a favorite amongst real life royalty and fashion’s elite, with the Grand Duke of Russia, the Duke of Windsor, and Karl Lagerfeld all proud owners of Goyard cases. I wonder whether any of these luminaries will snap up one of the 233 numbered books.

Goodness knows, they’re probably the only ones who can afford the whopping price tag of around $7250. Before you choke, that price does buy an individualized trunk. All are custom made to order, with clients able to choose one of 12 colors, their monograms, stripes, and other embellishments. Of course, Goyard will jack the price up if your individual details are more opulent than the norm.

If you’re after a classic briefcase with a side order of luxury, this Revival bag from Salvatore Ferragamo should fit the bill.

To the uninitiated this looks like so many other office bags. But to the discerning eye, the Revival is a thing of real beauty. Its body is made from classic pebbled leather in timeless tan. Its design is traditional too, with an elegant flap, double gusseted body, and durable box shape. The silvery clasp has a push lock and number lock closure; just the thing for keeping office snoops out of your personal files.

While the exterior is mercifully bare of logos, the interior is lined with Ferragamo’s signature jacquard print. The generous space is complemented by a zippered storage pouch and leather organizational pocket complete with six slots for your business cards.

While the sturdy handle is fine when you’re traveling light, it’s not the most user-friendly carrying option. I prefer the longer detachable strap; it’s completely adjustable with a wide leather patch for comfortable carrying.

There’s a lot to like about this briefcase, but the price isn’t so appealing. Only corporate high rollers will feel comfortable spending more than a thousand dollars on such a traditional office bag.

Tory Burch’s latest line of accessories has been remarkably street savvy for the usually upper crust designer. She has brought her signature minimal elegance to a host of bohemian and rocker designs, and the effect is fabulous. Case in point is this Sawla fringed messenger bag.

The luxe purple leather is bright enough to become a conversation starter, but it isn’t so over-the-top that it won’t work with a lot of outfits. The shape is a rounded-off version of the traditional messenger. I love this refined feminine take on a blue collar classic.

I find the fringe a bit perplexing though. On the one hand, the bag might not be super interesting without it. But on the other, I just don’t know if it works. It looks a little like two disparate elements were thrown together in a not totally coherent way. The bag itself possesses a classic elegance, and I’m just not sure what the fringe adds. I know it’s supposed to be edgy, but it falls a little flat.

The straps are also somewhat irksome. Messenger bags have straps for an entirely functional reason, but on the Sawla they are not only not functional, but I also think they take away from some of the clean lines of the design.

At $465, the Sawla is a reasonably-priced designer bag, but not so reasonable that I want to buy it.

Boho chic just doesn’t seem to want to disappear. It has evolved a lot since its inception several years ago, and bags like this keep it going strong. This suede cross-body bag by Marni isn’t the overdone, over-embellished boho of season’s past. It has a sleeker, more polished, more wearable look for everyday.

The black suede has a soft, touchable texture, and the flexibility of the material ensures maximum slouchiness. Suede is one of those fabrics you have to be kind of careful with though, as it wears and tears more easily than regular leather. But while this boho bag may not be the most durable, its stylishness might trump any utilitarian concerns.

The combination of dual handles and a shoulder strap make this bag super versatile, although even with the cross-body strap I wouldn’t really fill it to the top. The dark brown leather straps contrast well with the body of the bag, and add another layer of texture.

The stud detail edging the sides and bottom of the bag is what really takes it to the next level. Between the nubbly suede, the smooth leather, and the shiny studs, this bag has basically all the textural bases covered, and it comes together beautifully.

At $640, this bag is a pretty good deal on the low end of designer bags. Its chic versatility will definitely win some fans this season.

Be warned – don’t look directly at this hobo as you may well go blind!

OK, OK, so maybe I am being a little unfair. After all, I have certainly seen brighter colored bags, and ones with bigger, badder and generally worse combinations of prints. However, it is pretty much undeniable that this is one bright and LOUD tote, a fact that not even Fossil themselves would try to deny!

The question is, I suppose, does the look work? Whilst my staid and traditional side is willing me to scream “Nooooo!!!”, a little creative bit of me actually thinks the prints work. Teamed with an appropriate outfit, this bag would seem tribal, interesting and perhaps rather fashionable, but this wouldn’t happen if it was teamed with the wrong clothes!

The hobo shape and beaded accessories keep making me want to love the Ari tote … but I’m not really sure if I can.

Miu Miu’s usually edgy aesthetic has seemed a lot more pared down to me, lately. They seem to be attempting to grab a larger demographic. This bowling bag has some of Miu Miu’s usual charm, but in its attempt at refinement, some of the quirky appeal has been lost.

The rich chocolatey brown leather has a luxurious pebbled texture, and it contrasts beautifully with the bright gold hardware. The shape is slightly unusual. I wouldn’t really call it a bowler in the traditional sense. It lacks the usual structure and shape of a bowler, but the seam detail is similar. The generous size and slouchiness of this bag make it good for women who want to stow away a lot of goods, or who need a bag big enough to carry a change of clothes.

My favorite aspect of the bag is the threaded leather grommet detail on the shoulder strap. It lends a little personality to an otherwise bland bag. My fear, though, is that this lovely strap isn’t actually wide enough to support the weight of this bag comfortably when full. You can always use the hand straps, but then you lose emphasis on this lovely design accent.

Overall, I think this bag is mostly practical and very versatile, but it’s just a little humdrum. And for $1,350, I really want a little more oomph.

The time has come to buy a refreshing white bag for summer, and this Elaine Turner clutch is right on the money.

This patent white clutch looks more than a little Sex and The City, and I could imagine one of the SATC girls carrying it with a beautiful white maxi dress. A cotton dress would work particularly well, as it would allow the patent leather to shine through. That gloss is further enhanced by the folded and wrinkled texture of the large stylized front bow, creating a great effect.

The shape of the bag is large and spacious, with lots of room and an interior pocket. It may be a little too big for many to comfortably carry as a clutch, which is why it is handy that you get a short chain strap too. As always I would prefer this to be leather, but at least the gold tone coordinates with the cute bamboo style front hardware.

Available in a range of bright patent colors, the Ava clutch will set you back $150, but you do get style for the money.
