Susan Farber delivers a clutch for boho fashion fans with the Sterling.

Its name suggests an upper crust pedigree, but this is a much more approachable number. Long, fringing hangs from the striking scalloped flap to create a look which seems straight out of the American Wild West. The glossy waxed leather in deep, sexy hues brings a little class to proceedings.

The gingham lined interior is generous when compared to many evening clutches, but I’d appreciate something a little larger for such a versatile looking purse. It’s a well equipped space though, with a practical zippered pocket and a comfortable looking tuck-away leather strap.

Honestly, I think the Sterling will look its best when converted to a shoulder bag. Then the tassles can hang freely, rather than getting tangled up in your fingertips.

It’s not exactly red carpet worthy, but the Sterling is no slouch either. I imagine many girls working this purse during the day and well into the night, at least if they know how to travel light.

Louis Vuitton has recruited a who’s who of modeling for its fall/winter 2010/2011 advertising campaign.

Christy Turlington, Karen Elson, and Natalia Vodianova star in the vintage styled advertisements set in an old-fashion dressing room. Fashion photographer extraordinaire Stephen Meisel captured the images, which were shot inside a New York studio.

Louis Vuitton’s director of communications Antoine Arnault says “The atmosphere was very fifties, very elegant.“

It’s so refreshing to see ladies of all ages looking so lovely, with their coiffed hairstyles and retro attire. But I’m less impressed by the execution. Honestly the ads appear cluttered to me. I’m finding it almost impossible to focus on the lovely leather LV handbags and the gorgeous girls carrying them with so many distractions in the background. It’s enough to make a girl want to do a little belated spring cleaning! I’m sure any real 1950s women would have been all over the housekeeping before the final shots were taken!

This Sun N’ Sand really needs these accents to stand out from the pack, because when you take them away this is a stock standard tote. The simple shade is matched by a fairly basic interior. The open top design could pose a security risk, but at least we get a zippered pocket for keeping valuables safe.

The Diane Von Furstenberg Stephanie hobo is a modern classic. This new version features a few changes including a sleeker strap, larger size, and more subdued color palette than previous versions. I’m not always a fan of woven bags, because sometimes they just come off a little too folksy to me. I’m also not a huge fan of hobos, because the slouchy, unstructured style often looks sloppy. I don’t even really like metallic leather. But I am in love with this Stephanie hobo by Diane Von Furstenberg.

The woven metallic leather material is simply extraordinary. The weaving creates an almost faceted look that really catches the light, and since it’s not just a vast expanse of smooth metallic leather, the effect is really subtle. The super dark color palette is also amazing, as it looks almost black, but with delicate touches of green.

The shape is that of a traditional hobo, and while I do have concerns about all my stuff sloshing around the bottom of this bag, Von Furstenberg has taken care of part of that problem by including four interior pockets. The Stephanie is pretty huge for an everyday bag, so I might be tempted to fill it to the top. Which might not be such a problem, because it also has really great strap options. The short strap is good for carrying in the crook of your elbow and the long is great for throwing over your shoulder when it gets too heavy.

At $875, I’m not going to be rushing out to buy this baby anytime soon, but if you have the cash on hand, it’s a solid boho chic purchase.

Remember all the giant bows of the 80s? It seemed like they were everywhere; in hair, on bags, on belts. Well, I have been beginning to see a lot of them again lately, and I hugely prefer Chloe’s sleek version on the Rodas to the variety found in mall kiosks.

The smooth matte leather that makes up most of the Rodas contrasts nicely with the sleek patent leather bow and strap detail. The asymmetric placement of the bow makes it look a little less girly and a little more funky, a la Madonna circa 1984.

The shape of the bag is pared down enough to carry the giant bow embellishment easily, and the medium size makes this clutch suitable for day or evening. The long shoulder strap is great for carrying the Rodas across the body, but you can also tuck it inside if you want to hold it as a clutch.

The Rodas is an extremely covetable bag for a surprisingly reasonable price. At $295, its quirky versatility will find a lot of fans.

Ah, yet another pretty summer straw clutch. Big Buddha is an expert in the area, and I think this is one of its classiest creations yet.

When something becomes fashionable it inevitably means that there are lots of different options available. This means that to stand out from the crowd you have to do something a little different, which is probably why Big Buddha has opted to give its finely woven straw a metallic golden sheen. This makes the lightweight material more evening appropriate, meaning that you can wear it to an evening BBQ or party on the beach.

To get a day clutch and an evening clutch in one for just $45 is quite a bargain. This is why I don’t mind too much that the attractively shaped metal decoration looks a little bit thin and tacky, because you aren’t paying an arm and a leg for it. Plus, the advantages of a full lining and convenient shoulder strap make up for it.

Wear this Martini bag with chunky metallic wedges to really make it evening appropriate.

With so many designers looking to reinvent the hobo bag, it’s great to see a label getting back to the style’s boho roots. This Waco bag is everything we love about a classic hobo, from its slouchy crescent shape to its easy bohemian attitude.

The pairing of soft suede and long fringe screams hippie chic, although in this deep blue shade it’s more elegant than most boho bags. This is the kind of purse I can imagine a glamorous bohemian type like Nicole Richie or Sienna Miller carrying to the hottest new club or restaurant.

After all, this is more luxurious than your average hobo. Its suede body is complemented by lush satin lining. The space is luxurious too, with enough room to carry everything we need to make the transition from the office drudge to happy hour. The pale lining probably wasn’t the most practical choice, although I guess anyone that buys a suede accessory knows how to handle their bags with kid gloves.

At $650 though, this hobo might be a bit rich for the wallets of thrift store loving boho fashion fans.

We’ve got our first look at Madonna’s Material Girl collection for Macy’s courtesy of these colorful sketches.

There are some great fashion forward looks here, including the on-trend studded black flap bag and cute floral skirt and matching corset top. It’s all very retro, almost like something I’d imagine Madonna’s character in Desperately Seeking Susan wearing.

But we should bear in mind that this apparel and accessories are targeted at girls aged between 13 and 25. The styles are certainly appropriate for girls in their twenties, but I can’t imagine allowing any 13-year-old daughter of mine to wear such revealing and sexy outfits.

I suppose we need only look at the clothes Madonna’s own 13-year-old daughter Lourdes wears to see where Madonna’s taken her inspiration. I wonder though whether the racy looks will appeal to the moms that shop at Macy’s.

We’ll find out when the Material Girl collection hits Macy’s stores around the country in August. The pieces will range from $14 to $46.

Former model and rock star spawn Jade Jagger has designed a limited edition eco tote as part of Carnaby Street’s 50th Anniversary.

The bag is 100% organic cotton, which actually gives it more green credentials than Anya Hindmarch’ revolutionary “I’m not a plastic bag” bag. It features Jagger’s colorful “I want Jezebel” logo on the front, and a Carnaby Street 50th Anniversary print on the rear.

The tote’s eco-friendly design has been a labor of love for Jagger, who says “I think the environment is so important to use, we must protect it with everything we have as it protects us and all we do.“

Sales of the limited edition tote will help do just that, as its proceeds with support the Environmental Justice Foundation. The charity does important work protecting the environment and basic human rights.

Jade Jagger’s green tote is available for 15 from the Environmental Justice Foundation online store.
