This handbag is subtle in its nautical inspiration, with clean white leather and light brown trim. This preppy purse is just the thing I can imagine carrying as I step aboard a yacht … I can dream, can’t I? Even if you’re yachtless, its gentle maritime style is perfect for pairing with Capri pants and a nautical striped T.

It might look conservative at first glance, but unzip the top and it’s a different story. The hot pink lining makes this practical space seem a lot more fun. A long zippered envelope runs down the center to divide the generous interior into three user-friendly compartments. A small zippered pocket and two open pouches are on hand to take care of your loose change and tech essentials. We’re spoiled for storage space really, with another pocket in the bag’s front and a zippered one on the back. Of course, such pampering is never a bad thing … unless you can’t remember where you’ve stashed your ringing cell phone!

It’s not as trend conscious as many nautical bags, but that’s just what I like about the Regatta. At $138 it’s a relatively affordable leather accessory which should work well beyond this season.

I have to admit from the get-go that I’m not a huge fan of tweed. In wintertime I find it frumpy and in summer I find it incongruous. Now that my bias is out of the way, let’s talk about this tote.

The hot pink tweed fabric on this bag is meant to be trendy and hip, I think, but it just comes off looking cheap. That combined with a not very interestingly shaped bag make for something I would expect to see at Target for under twenty bucks. And, honestly, it doesn’t even look worth that much to me.

The front pouch pocket might be cute if the bag weren’t so slouchy, but on an already unshapely bag, it just looks sloppy. The straps are sturdy and made for comfort, but the contrast between the black leather and hot pink tweed doesn’t look well thought out. It looks as though Marni has sewn the straps of a much different bag on this one.

For $1,090, I expect a lot more than this. In face, I expect more from Marni at any price point.

With this jeweled clutch Menbur provides luxury looks for the unexpectedly reasonable price of just $72.

This bag is simple. It is elegant. It knows the difference between looking classy and looking over-the-top, and it leans more towards the subtle and enigmatic end of the market. If your idea of black tie is a shocking pink number slashed to the thigh, then this probably isn’t your thing. However, it is the perfect accompaniment to a flowing satin gown and a fistful of ladylike diamonds.

Menbur has gone all out to make this satin clutch look pretty. The navy satin itself is a beautiful shade of indigo, which it has contrasted cleanly against the jeweled center decoration. Adding to the color, the slight envelope clutch shape and cute pleated feature just continue to make this look like a bag that costs more than it does.

Although the lighter interior and chain handle don’t look as classy as the rest of the bag, I still think this is a great and sophisticated evening bag.

Whilst the multiple pockets/compartments for all needs and the waterproof fabric address the functional aspects, there is actually something strangely attractive about the looks. In fact, were it not for the size I could see this being worn as utility chic, which means it a lot more fashionable than most backpacks would ever be.

As with all practical bags this isn’t cheap at $174.90, but National Geographic is the expert so it should be good.

Steve Madden pushes the fashion envelope with this surprising Charm School envelope. But is it really as charming as its name suggests?

The style is definitely eye-catching, with its pouch shape and gathered body providing a unique alternative to the traditional slouchy crescent. It reminds me of the sort of bag I imagine a goblin or wizard filling with gold coins in a fairy story, although no doubt theirs wouldn’t be made of such lush leather! This two-toned leather is also an original choice, although a black-on-black bag is also available for those who prefer a more traditional look.

While the rolled leather drawstring is the Charm School’s greatest stylistic feature, it’s also its least practical. It’s a fiddly thing, which won’t be much fun to use when you want to access your goodies in a hurry. I’d keep your cell phone in the zippered front pocket if you don’t want to miss a few calls.

If individual style is what you’re after, this $288.95 purse is a relatively affordable way to get it by designer standards. But if you want a bag that’s practical rather than pretty, you might want to look elsewhere.

Lindsay Lohan has dismissed rumors that she’ll bare all to advertise her 6126 handbag collection.

The idea did seem a little far fetched considering that Lindsay must wear a SCRAM ankle bracelet to monitor her alcohol consumption at all times. However quotes from insiders stating they were hopeful the device could be removed with police supervision did seem convincing.

“We’re thinking of having police on hand so we can remove the ankle bracelet for the pictures,” Richard Luna, a spokesperson for The California Bag, was quoted as saying.

Lindsay took to Twitter to quash the rumors, commenting, “Can’t wait for 6126 handbags! Loving chatter about new collection … contrary to rumors, I’ll be fully clothed for the campaign! Stay tuned!!“

Personally I’m glad Lindsay’s keeping her kit on as I wondered whether the ads would feel a wee bit trashy. That may have been appropriate for Lindsay’s cheaper 7286 collection, but surely her high class line deserves something a bit more elegant.

Those girls who ordinarily struggle to warm to Stella McCartney’s leather-free vegan ethos should find something to smile about here. While fabric bags often seem like luxury substitutes on the street, they’re perfect for a gym environment. After all, no one wants to put their smelly sneakers and T-shirts into an expensive designer purse.

Not that this is a cheap bag, particularly considering its fabric body. You could find many other gym bags for less than $140, but they wouldn’t have that prestigious Stella McCartney name attached.

Not that the Plico trades on its name alone; it’s casually stylish gray body is matched with a practical design. While it might be too small for real sports nuts, it won’t weigh casual athletes down. Its interior has a separate compartment for shoes and another for your clothes and other essentials. Ordinarily I pack a separate plastic bag for my trainers, so I really love the convenience of this feature. There’s another smaller secure compartment in the front for your valuables, and two long handles for easy carrying.

If you’re look for a gym bag and you’re willing to spend a little more for a label, the Plico is a great choice. Just make sure you’re really committed to your fitness kick before you spend your cash.

The ashes of the late handbag designer Lee Alexander McQueen have finally been laid to rest. They were scattered in Kilmur in Scotland’s Isle of Sky on May 29.

His family told fashion website Womens Wear Daily that the location was one the designer held close to his heart.

“Lee cherished the times that he was able to spend on the Isle of Skye,” they explained. “He enjoyed the beauty, peace and tranquility. It was Lee’s final request that his ashes should be buried at Kilmur.“

The daring British designer was found dead in his London apartment after an apparent suicide in February. His right-hand woman Sarah Burton has since been named the new creative director of the company which bears his name.

While Alexander McQueen will be missed, it’s comforting to know that his brand will continue in his honor for years to come, and to know that now he’s found the peace which eluded him towards the end of his life.

The interior is also fitted with a zippered pocket, a much more practical option than the tiny open slips we typically see.

That old saying that you get what you pay for is true. This cheap and cheerful clutch isn’t the most durable or plush accessory around, but it’ll be fun while it lasts.
