Celebrity handbag lines are rarely inspiring, but Jessica Simpson has proven herself to be the exception to the rule with her affordable handbag collection.
The Karma satchel is the latest Jessica Simpson purse to catch my eye. I’ve long been enamored by the preppy appeal of cut-out fabric, but I’ve never seen the trend interpreted in such a fun way. Rather than simple dots, we see cute flowers cut from the synthetic fabric. It could have appeared kitschy, but Jessica Simpson has kept these blooms dainty and delicate enough to keep it this side of chic.
This slouchy purse will look adorable hanging from your shoulder, but once you sit it down it’s a different story. Without a platform base, the flimsy synthetic body of the Karma simply becomes a puddle of unrecognizable material. That also doesn’t make packing and unpacking the easiest of tasks.
But the Karma isn’t without practical charms. It’s designed with organization in mind, a real plus for all those scatterbrained bagistas out there. A large zippered pocket divides the interior into three easy to use spaces, and there are pockets on the outside for the essentials you need at hand.
The Karma satchel is available in conservative luggage brown and the more playful options of lemon, aqua, saffron, and magenta.

Carlo Fellini knows how to give women million dollar looks on a shoestring budget. I’m not quite sure how the designer does it, but purses like this Prudence look so chic and cost so much less than their competitors. Who would imagine such a clutch would cost just $60?
Burberry is known for creating classic accessories that get passed down from generation to generation. The high quality of its pieces and traditional approach to design explain this. But, for the most part, Burberry isn’t as stuffy as all those check-print scarves might lead you to believe. It has a modern edge that keeps the label current, and it really shows through on bags like this Fielding leather tote.
Giuseppe Zanotti isn’t one of my favorite designers. It seems like he starts with a good idea (sometimes someone else’s good idea), but then takes it a little too far. This suede clutch perfectly demonstrates what I mean.
I’ve been seeing a lot of
Matelasse is a kind of quilting that you usually find in textiles, but Miu Miu has used it here in an entirely innovative, not to mention beautiful way. The quilted leather has been sewn together in a sort of zig-zag pattern that shows off the sheen of the material, and gives it sort of a metallic look.
Anya Hindmarch is a relative newcomer to the fashion scene, and her initial reception was warm and welcome. But this season she has relied heavily on casual canvas totes that aren’t particularly exciting. This Newspapers And Magazines totes is another disappointment.
Miu Miu’s quirky signature style is the stuff that dreams are made of. Literally. The designer of the line, Miuccia Prada has said that she thinks in Prada but dreams in Miu Miu. This patent bow clutch is sleek and elegant, but has a hip vibe that will appeal to fashionistas of several generations.
Handbags shaped like bows are always good fun, and the Alexis Hudson Snowbird purse manages to make that fun shape into something practical too.
