Add a dash of whimsy to your summer wardrobe with this adorable Butterfish bag from J. Renee.

It’s a curious name, but one which makes sense when you spot the tiny crystal covered fish which adorns the leather front flap. Some might call this embellishment tacky, but I think if you view it in the spirit it was intended it’s actually kind of sweet. And besides, if you can’t enjoy a little kitsch in summer when can you?

The Butterfish is made from clear vinyl and trimmed with luxury white leather. Transparent fabrics tend to divide bagistas, but I don’t mind it here. With the white patent and trapezoidal shape, the clear material gives the Butterfish a playful, retro charm.

It’s a bit of a double-edged sword though. On one hand, it makes it really easy to find the items you need. On the other, everyone will know what you’re carrying. This definitely isn’t the purse to take on a hot date, or when it’s that time of the month! Sometimes a girl needs a little mystery after all!

Whether this is worth its $80 price depends on your personality. I assume those looking for classic looks will pass this over, but if you dare to be different the Butterfish could be your bag.

Roger Vivier will release a new limited edition concept line to bridge the gap between its mainstream collection and couture range. The Rendez-Vous range will feature high class handbags and shoes.

The fashion house’s creative director Bruno Frisoni says the Rendez-Vous collection marks a fresher and more modern direction for Roger Vivier. I’m not sure whether I agree with that, as the fashion items are really just reworked versions of the brand’s already iconic designs. They might be more modern, but rehashing something you already have hardly seems fresh does it?

It might not be as inspiring as something entirely new, but I still love the delicate teak sequins adorning the brand’s iconic Miss Viv bag. I’m less convinced by the wooden pearl version, although I’m sure some boho babes would flip over it.

Audiences will be introduced to the Rendez-Vous collection when it tours a number of Roger Vivier stores around the world from January 2011.

Foley + Corinna shows us you don’t need to take the slouch out of the hobo to create a head-turning style. You just need to change its shape.

As its name suggests, Foley + Corinna gives this hobo a contemporary, asymmetrical silhouette. It’s so different that I’m not sure whether I like it or not, but I know it’ll stand out in a crowd.

I’d definitely dismiss it in the glitzy gold shade; it’s not the brassiest gold I’ve seen but it still shines too brightly on a bag which is already so striking. The much subtler caramel tone helps to rein in the hobo’s wild styling.

I can’t help wondering how difficult this unique style will be to manage. It’ll require careful packing to distribute the weight of your precious cargo evenly. Get the mix wrong and this could be an awkward bag to carry. At least the long strap is wide and soft to cushion your shoulder against the strain.

This unique hobo hasn’t really convinced me, but if you’re looking to turn heads it’s probably worth its $450 price tag.

We’ve all heard the saying that one’s man trash is another’s treasure, but I’ve never seen trash looking quite as stylish as this, or costing quite as much. But Trash is the unlikely name of the latest luxury travel bags from Travelteq.

I’m not sure what is behind the puzzling moniker, because there’s nothing trashy about these bags. They’re handcrafted from Florentine Vachetta leather, in your choice of classic panther black or fox brown. Inside you’ll find a water-resistant nylon compartment which seems tailor-made for toting laptops or portable DVD players.

The Trash Messenger, Trash 17-inch, and Trash Cougar bags are the latest handbags to join the Travelteq roster. The Messenger and 17-inch versions satisfy jetsetters need for large, over-the-shoulder bags, but it’s anyone’s guess why you’d buy the smaller Trash Cougar. Honestly, the name is almost enough to put me off! Juliet said that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but when it comes to these Trash bags I’m not sure that rule applies!

Etienne Aigner doesn’t create the trendiest accessories around, but its timeless looks shouldn’t be overlooked.

Its shape is just a little out of the ordinary, and its deep seams add interest to its smooth leather body. The stirrup-shaped hardware adds just a hint of equestrian vibes to this classic tote.

A tote is intended to be an everyday bag, and Etienne Aigner ensures this one is. A large zippered pouch divides the stripy interior into three user-friendly compartments, while pockets in the side walls can handle your gadgets and other valuables. And don’t forget about the front slip pocket when you’re searching for storage space. I wouldn’t stuff it full if you want to maintain those smooth lines, but it’s great for storing a few small items you need on hand.

The Velden Core tote is the sort of wardrobe staple that could take you from work to the weekend for years to come. It’s so subtle that you might miss it, but for $118 this is money well spent.

Chloe’s past few seasons of accessories have been covetable, to say the least. They have been chic, understated, and of impeccably high taste. The Marcie is another great piece in a line of classics.

I’m not always a fan of tan leather, but the rich, caramel-y color of this leather is absolutely delicious. It has the smooth, hard look of equestrian equipment, and the intricate seam detail to go along with it. This is one handbag that will not only stand up to wear, but it will look better as you break it in and weather it.

The shape of this bag is also somewhat equestrian-esque. It has the curvy lines of a saddlebag, but is slightly more square. The front flap adds a touch of luxe with its inset leather straps and embroidery-style seaming, and the horsebit-shaped hardware on the straps is another classic touch.

This bag could easily become a modern classic, but unfortunately, at $1,790, one that will only be accessible to the upper classes.

Metallic leather handbags have enjoyed a long run of popularity. More than five years, by my count, which is basically a century in the fashion world. Frankly, I’ve gotten a little bored of shiny metallics, and am thrilled to see some interesting new styles hitting the market. This gorgeous matte gold leather tote is a great example of how fresh metallics can look.

The traditional tote design is well-suited for showing off the metallic leather. The surface of the bag is relatively free of embellishment, the only exception being the seam details, which add a little extra texture to the material and reinforce its strength.

Pulling the drawstring gives the bag a totally different look, one that is slouchy and casually chic. The slender leather straps are as simple, minimal, and finely crafted as the rest of the bag, and I love their gold hardware attachments. What this bag lacks in trendy details it makes up for in understated elegance.

Unfortunately, the high level of taste demonstrated on this drawstring tote comes at a less than understated price. For $550, it’s a very lovely tote, but just a little pricey for what it offers.

That nautical storm doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of slowing. You’d better batten down the hatches in that case, because the fire engine red of this bright Maxx New York tote is bound to make the weather even worse.

Of course, all those terrible nautical metaphors are essentially just my way of saying that I really like the simple sailor inspiration going on in the Hibiscus tote. The hot red body gleams, and the contrasting white strips complete the look. Throw in a hand full of metal studs for good measure and you have something that definitely has a nautical feeling, but without being plastered in anchors and rope.

Of course, having a very large tote bag in a patent red fabric will no doubt be a little obvious to passers by. Whilst you can rest safe in the knowledge that you could use it as a lifebuoy or flotation device should you go over board, the sheer expanse of such a bright color may put people off. However, I think the cute retro pin up shape minimizes any negative associations, and makes the red much more wearable!

Cute and fun, this synthetic leather tote is a bargain at $56.40. Land ahoy!

When I think Juicy Couture I think of velour fabrics and plenty of pink. I definitely don’t picture the kind of conservatism that we find in this Cape Mini Satchel.

If I hadn’t seen the tag myself, I never would have known that this was a Juicy Couture creation. It’s just so sensible! Its classic dome shape is made richer with gold-tone hardware. Those rich good looks are no illusion either; this is a satchel made with real leather and trimmed with luxuriously soft suede.

As it is a mini bag you needn’t expect a whole lot of space, but it’s a bit more generous than its name suggests. I’d personally call it mid-sized; you needn’t leave too many items at home if you’re setting out with the Cape. The exterior slide pocket also makes it feel a shade larger without undermining the satchel’s clean good looks.

I’m not sure this purse will win any fans amongst Juicy Couture’s faithful as it’s just so darned tame. But it might convince those who’ve never warmed to the brand that it’s worth another look.

Giambattista Valli is expanding its horizons and opening its first ever store this fall. Parisians can look forward to buying the fashion house’s ready-to-wear fashions, handbags, shoes, and jewelry from the boutique on rue Boissy d’Anglas.

The French fashion capital location is an obvious choice for the Roman-born designer, as he’s been based in Paris for many years. He recently told Elle Canada, that he loves “the studied approach and the rituals that you find in French fashion houses,” so no doubt we’ll see that influence in Valli’s own store.

Giambattista Valli opened his fashion house in 2005, and quickly became a favorite of celebrities like Diane Kruger, Katie Holmes, and Victoria Beckham. His fashion items are stocked at more than 220 stores in 40 countries around the world, but the move to beyond the wholesale market will surely take this brand to the next level.

Hopefully many more Giambattista Valli stores will follow once the Parisian one is established!
