It may still be summer for most of us, but that doesn’t seem to be holding back the trend towards suede that is likely to be a biggy for fall/winter.

If you want to gear up for the trend towards things that are soft, fluffy and comfortable, then I really like the casual nature of the Stuart Weitzman Banff tote. The shape is simple, yet looks incredibly comfortable to carry, as a suede bag with furry trim should. In fact, I bet this is one handbag that a tiny poodle or chihuahua wouldn’t argue against being carried around in!

Whilst it is definitely comfy and on-trend, I do wonder how cool suede can ever really be. Sure, celebrities can look great in it, but us mere mortals may struggle to look fashion forwards whilst wearing a bag that looks a little like one of those novelty fluffy cushions. Don’t get me wrong, I actually really like this suede tote, but the similarity is kind of undeniable.

The Banff handbag is a smart and well constructed bag that is bound to be popular over the coming months.

Matt & Nat is known for being a warm, fuzzy brand dedicated to saving the planet with its animal-friendly, vegan leather accessories. It seems the label wanted us to know it’s got a few edges with the release of the Malik Nappa-Style clutch. I don’t know about you, but this purse doesn’t fool me one bit.

I assume the haphazard placement of the differently sized pyramid studs is intended to evoke a dangerous, rock and roll feel, but instead it just seems sloppy to me. It’s almost as if a child was handed a glue gun and studs! I expect more from a designer accessory really.

Such a spiky purse probably won’t be comfortable to carry by hand, so I admire Matt & Nat’s decision to add a detachable wrist strap. But again, there’s a problem in the execution. I suppose the chunky chain is again supposed to add attitude, but I can’t imagine it’d feel good on my skin. I’d take more of that soft vegan leather around my wrist any day!

I’m not quite sure how they do things in Nappa, but where I’m from a clutch like this just doesn’t fly.

Big Buddha adds some flouncy flair to the traditional shoulder bag with the Millie.

The Millie gets its style from the exaggerated gathers which add texture and drama to its front. As with so many Big Buddha bags though, that striking design feature isn’t continued on the back. I assume that’s how the brand keeps its costs down, along with the use of synthetic material, but it’s disappointing nonetheless. At least Big Buddha offers a zippered pocket here to appease us, although I’m sure we’d all pick more pretty pleats over this practical perk.

After all, Big Buddha hasn’t skimped with these functional features inside. There’s a large zippered pocket on one wall, and a pair of open pouches on the other. Gadgets and valuables taken care of, there’s plenty of space for everything we need to get through the day, and a few extras as well.

I love the summery appeal of this cool blue shade, but if you’re looking for a more classic look consider the Millie in white. Just make sure you handle this pale purse with kid gloves as it’s bound to show grimy stains quickly.

Jessica McClintock gives us just enough sparkle to be stylish with this Sparkles flap clutch.

With its glittering name, I expected much more bling with this clutch. Thankfully Jessica McClintock shows elegant restraint here, restricting her diamantes to a tiny strip running down the center of the flap. This curved flap is gently pleated to create a soft, feminine look.

This is a surprisingly roomy clutch with space for all your party essentials, and even a couple of extras. That makes hand-held clutching a little more awkward than usual, but we do have a silvery chain strap tucked away to help us out. The interior is fairly simply designed though, with just a single slip pouch, so I hope you know how to stay organized on your own!

I can’t go past the classic look of this black Sparkles purse, but if you have a special event coming up consider snapping up one of the other color options. With eight shades to choose from, there’s probably one to suit your dress. And with a price tag of just $20, you won’t mind too much if it doesn’t suit every evening occasion!

Lanvin’s past few seasons have been epic. Its designs have been completely cutting edge, but totally elegant. Its line of Happy bags is totally timeless and chic and is making tits way to It Bag status. This large version is a fantastic  example of why.

The square shape is slightly rounded at the bottom corners, which gives it a smooth, sophisticated look. The front pouch is integrated into the bag in a streamlined fashion. The front flap that covers it has a fabulous turnlock closure made of black, silver, and gold-tone hardware that ties all the colors of the bag together.

The main compartment has a full top zipper and is large enough to carry all the basics without being big enough to weigh you down. The signature chain and grosgrain strap is threaded through the sides of the pouch and fastens to the back with a leather strap. This is a durable, but also chic touch that reminds you that the Happy is meant to last a lifetime. The off-set chain with designer hang-tag is a lovely touch that gives the bag an almost vintage appearance.

At $2,445, the Happy isn’t cheap, but let’s face it, it isn’t meant to be. The Happy is a designer investment bag that will be stylish for years to come.

While I’ve always admired her environmentalist approach to design, I’ve never found Stella McCartney’s accessories very interesting. They’re always a little too decorated to be minimal, and a little too plain to be fabulous. Well not this accordion clutch bag; it is both minimal and fabulous and absolutely a piece of art.

This amazing bag is a feat of fashion engineering. The outer layer is composed of wooden panels arranged into an accordion box design and held together with muted gold hardware. The interior pouch is made of antique rose leather, and is removable, in case you want to go for a less practical, but more cutting-edge look.

Every inch of this bag is well thought out. The simple chain strap has small ball embellishments, and even the clasp is made of wood in a very cool scalloped design. This might be what a handbag would look like if it was designed by an architect with a modern organic aesthetic.

Because the wooden panels are tied together, the bag is not particularly practical. But let’s face it, this is not a bag you buy for utility’s sake. It has “collector’s item” written all over it.

Just when you think Mary Frances had created the oddest handbag she could, she goes and creates something even more distinct!

Distinct may be a bit of a euphemism for strange in this case. An ornithologist’s dream, this signature slouchy purse is embellished with beads, shells and feathers in the shape of a cute little birdy.
