What an appropriate name this Temptation clutch from Lodis has. This reptilian beauty definitely has me salivating!

It’s such a simple clutch really, with its frame top and chic silver clasp. But it’s the finish on the leather that’s really revving my engine. The scaly embossing is so sophisticated, a worthy equal to the exotic it represents. But its appeal can also be owed to that ombre finish, with its black center gently fading into fiery red. This purse would definitely pop against a little black dress, but if you prefer something more somber consider the Temptation in deep emerald green.

It’s a fairly compact clutch, but its length affords you a little more space than the average. This should be enough to help you smuggle an extra tube of gloss or mascara into this party purse.

I can stomach the Temptation’s small stature, but I’m disappointed by the lack of shoulder strap. Some may argue that such a tiny purse is easy to carry by hand, and that may be true. But for the hefty price of $335, I feel we deserve the option of going hands-free.

This flaw combined with the price is enough to sour the taste, but it’s not enough to spoil my appetite for the Temptation completely.

The shape of the Loubis is that of a traditional, frame-topped clutch. The medium size ensures that you will have enough room for a special night’s worth of necessities, but it isn’t so large that you’ll be tempted to bring your whole cosmetics case.

While the size and shape of the Loubis are both middle-of-the road, the overall effect is nothing less than drop dead glamorous. The gorgeous red calf hair material is the definition of luxury, and its cool blue undertones are contrast beautifully with the gold-toned hardware. The texture of the calf hair is softened by the gentle pleating at the center of the clutch.

The Loubis clutch would be an amazing addition to any wardrobe, but while the $1,495 is not unheard of for a calf hair bag, it’s still a little pricey. But, let’s be honest, who isn’t willing to pay a little extra for that signature double stiletto clasp at the top?

Santi is the king of decoration, but has it gone over the top with this complicated clutch bag?

I have to hold my hands up and admit that I am not a great fan of this clutch. It is just too much, too complex, there are too many layers of complication and decoration. Some may enjoy the contrast of soft cream canvas against bright patent red, and this is obviously going to be popular with fans of crocodile print, but for me it is all just a bit over the top!

I am also disappointed with the fact that for over $100 you don’t get real leather. To me, that doesn’t seem all that much to ask. Obviously the synthetic fabric will be more waterproof, but not with the canvas background added into the equation.

This slouchy tote is an interesting creation, and I sense that some will love it whilst others hate it. Which court are you in?

If you want a simple clutch with some understated glamor, then this Pura Lopez clutch will tick all the boxes.

This studded purse is essentially a simple affair, a rectangular pouch of smooth soft suede in an incredibly traditional  shape. Zip tassel, top zip, small interior space. It is one of those purses that isn’t too on-trend to be out of fashion next year, yet which will also manage to be stylish with most looks.

The decoration on this suede clutch is what makes it pretty, rather than practical. A scattering of studding looks like an evening bag covered in diamantes, just with the attitude ramped up a notch. The combination of different studs makes it more interesting, yet it is in no way too rocky for everyday wear. The tassel may be a touch far for some people, but I think it works thanks to the suede.

This Pura Lopez evening bag is a subtle way to inject a little attitude into your outfit.

I’m used to seeing edgy accessories which ooze New York attitude from the Big Apple’s Rebecca Minkoff. But she’s not all edges and angles. With this Belle clutch, Rebecca Minkoff tips her hat to classic vintage style.

The scaly skin we see here isn’t authentic alligator, but embossed leather. Purists may turn their nose up at this exotic imitator, but personally I don’t mind when the mimicry is this convincing. It also keeps the price down; $350 isn’t exactly cheap but it’s a lot more affordable than a genuine alligator purse would be.

The skin is available in a choice of four colors. It’s not the largest range I’ve seen, but with classic shades black, gray, and brown sitting alongside this vibrant purple there’s probably something to suit most tastes. The embossed finish looks a little more luxurious with a golden turn-lock clasp and matching chain strap. That strap is happily detachable so it need never clutter your purse when you’re using the Belle as a clutch.

This is a fairly large clutch purse, despite its compact look. That might make hand-held clutching awkward, but it does help the Belle make the transition from day to night. It may not hold everything you want to carry, but it should have the space to hold everything you really need.

The Belle is a bit of a design departure for Rebecca Minkoff, but I think it’s one risk that’s paid off.

This Candy bag from Big Buddha is every bit as sweet as its name suggests.

Of course, most modern girls aren’t looking for sweet in a satchel. They’d prefer something more sophisticated than this baby pink canvas number. Combining the feminine fabric with shiny metallic trim only adds to the gooeyness.

Even if you are a girly girl, I can’t imagine this bag having enough to impress you. Canvas is a great inexpensive alternative to leather, but the glitzy faux patent trim only cheapens it. At least it’s lightweight though, a real bonus considering how full this baby can get. It’s also mercifully free of the bows and buttons that could really take the design over the edge.

With space to spare it’s a good thing Big Buddha has given us plenty of pockets. Those zip and slip pouches are sure to help keep our goodies in order when we’re out and about. A zip top closure keeps all your precious cargo safe and sound.

This is the kind of purse I can imagine the Harajuku girls of Japan lapping up, but I’m personally looking for more sophistication in a satchel.

Once we could rely on Whiting & Davis to create classic vintage style mesh accessories, but these days the brand relishes pushing the envelope of metal fabric fashion. With this Bubble and Flat Mesh Clutch, we see the label striking a delicate balance between vintage good looks and modern styling.

This clutch’s smooth, oval shape is classic, but it’s given a contemporary twist with the vertical stripes. This striking look is created with an intriguing mix of bubble and traditional flat mesh in two tones. I love the stark contrast of black against pewter, but if you prefer something a bit glitzier consider the gold and silver alternative.

The hard oval case helps the clutch hold its shape, but there’s a down side to this design. It restricts storage space more than a softer body would, so you’ll really need to pare back your party essentials. Either Judith Leiber’s design sensibility is totally schizophrenic, or I am. Because sometimes she makes totally absurd cartoon-y zebra bags, and sometimes she makes totally amazing, beautifully crafted bags like this Goddess clutch.

This hard-cased clutch has all the glamor of Hollywood in the 1940s. It looks like something Rita Hayworth would have carried wearing a slinky bias-cut satin gown, idly dangling a cigarette from her other hand.

The faceted jewels that cover the bag are made of finely crafted, champagne-colored crystal. Their rectangular shape catches the light in a magnificent, but subtle, way. I love the way that the crystals mimic the shape of the clutch and vice versa.

The large crystal clasp finishes the bag beautifully, but the luxury of this bag doesn’t stop with its exterior. The interior is lined in buttery soft silver leather and includes a small vanity mirror.

For $2,695, the Goddess clutch isn’t particularly accessible to the masses. But then again, it isn’t really supposed to be. It’s made for a goddess.
