There is a certain touch of Alexander Wang styling to this over-the-top box clutch from Inge Christopher, just without a price tag into the thousands of dollars.

Of course, this edgy St Petersburg minaudiere isn’t quite as a stylish as some of the Wang styles on the market. The difference, I think, is in the shiny embossed snakeskin print leather that covers this purse. Rather than a rocky matte black, this gleams and glistens, and adds more of a clubbing vibe than other, more black-tie evening bags. I like this in combination with the shiny silver hardware, but at the same time I am conscious that it won’t be great for really smart events.

The Swarovski crystals on the outside of this purse may well tip it over the edge for some people. After all, most people seem to either love or hate these shiny designer jewels. If their bold black shapes are your cup of tea, however, then this snakeskin purse will be popular indeed.

Inge Christopher can’t change the limitations of a restrictive box clutch. However, I think the hot pink satin lining and interesting exterior do their best to make you want to buy it.

Betsey Johnson has always had a thing for tigers, but never before has the designer used the motif of these wild animals so blatantly. There’s certainly nothing subtle about the Tiger Eye tote.

The tiger’s face glares menacingly from the front of the tote bag. His intense, yellow eyes pop against the purple animal print. This Tiger Eye tote has an aggressive look, and one that only the most confident chickas will pull off, but if you’ve got the guts to carry it this bag is sure to be noticed.

Disney Parks and Dooney & Bourke have just released their latest co-branded collection of handbags. The four-piece collection inspired by Dooney & Bourke’s Pop Novelty line celebrates the famous Disney princesses.

Amongst the colorful line drawing print you’ll see classic cameos starring Disney’s four most famous princesses: Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Belle. Their images are placed beside classic fairytale elements including flowers, crowns, and castles. The vibrant pattern is the work of Disney designers Darren Wilson and Donna Kozatek.

Aspiring princesses can choose from four different bag styles: a tote, bucket bag, satchel, and small wristlet. Each is available white black or white backgrounds.

Disney lovers can purchase the new limited edition Pop Princess purses first from DisneyParks.com ahead of their official release at Disney Parks stores later this month. I’m not sure the cute printed bags will find many adult fans, but they could be just the thing for budding fashionistas.

With its pretty perforated ruffles, it was only natural for Bebe to call this tote the Lacey.

This tote’s ruffled finish really looks like lace thanks to the tiny perforated holes which dot the polyurethane material. These ruffles fan out from the ruched band which runs down the center of the tote. The dramatic textures make this cheap fabric appear rich and luxurious, although I’m not sure that justifies the price tag. At almost $160 I would have expected genuine leather rather than a synthetic alternative.

At least Bebe offers us a bag that’s as thoughtfully designed as it is stylish. The bucket shape makes the most of the tote’s dimensions by offering maximum storage space. There’s a zippered pocket and a couple of open pouches for organizing your gadgets. The rounded braided handles aren’t just chic; they’re also comfortable to carry.

The Lacey fits nicely into the current 80s revival. I can just imagine Madonna carrying it with her lacy fingerless gloves and bubble skirt. I wouldn’t suggest you try the same outfit, but it might be just what you need to inject a dose of retro style into your wardrobe.

We’ve seen many fashion labels reinventing the hobo of late, but I’ve never seen any brand reinterpret the boho staple quite like Be & D has done with the Jefferson.

The typical crescent shape is gone, replaced instead with this elongated bucket style. This striking silhouette is enhanced with large studs, whip stitching, and lush wrinkled black leather. The details are bold but less flamboyant than they might have been thanks to the use of complementary tones. The cone-shaped studs are covered in leather to mute them, and the whip-stitching on the front flap and handle is done in that same black tone. The only pop of color comes from the shiny silver hardware, which gives the hobo the right amount of rock star edge.

The dimensions are very generous; this is a bag which is almost as long as it is wide and deep. That makes it perfect for carrying fat wallets, chunky novels, and other bulky items. A zippered pocket, two open pouches, and a hook for keys all help to make this vast space user friendly.

The whip-stitched handle is lovely, but it’s not the most practical carrying option once the Jefferson is full. That’s no problem though, as Be & D also adds an attachable cross-body strap. This leather strap features a movable leather cushion to protect your shoulder from strain.

With a retail value of almost $1000, this hobo is one of Be & D’s most expensive bags, but it’s also one of the label’s most versatile and stylish.

I have news for everyone. Backpacks aren’t just for students and athletic gear isn’t just for athletes. Backpacks are an amazingly convenient solution to a lot of urbanite’s problems. They let you carry most of your life around without being weighed down on one side. And Stella McCartney’s designs for Adidas have an appeal much wider than the gym set. Even if you are neither a gym rat nor a college student, you still might find a use for this bag.

The quilted black polyester on this backpack is durable and, well, kind of cool. The quilting makes it look either very current or totally 1999. Either way is equally hip. The black patent leather trim adds a bit shine, but it also ensures that you can’t throw this baby into the washer. Oh well.

I love the unusual shape of this bag. The fold-over flap with buckles makes it look a little bit chicer than your average backpack. Even if I’m not personally a fan of the giant silver buckles themselves, I think they add a modern touch that keeps the bag from looking too Sporty Spice.

The best thing about this bag is that it’s totally practical. The drawstring closure will allow for a lot of unusually shaped and sized items, and the plethora of front and side pockets will keep all your smaller stuff organized. Plus, at $130, this is a bag you can afford, even on a student’s budget.

I’m not really a fan of woven bags. They often look, to me, like baskets, and while I am a fan of baskets, I’m not sure I really want to carry one around. This chic woven leather Veneta Intrecciato bag by Bottega Veneta has all the style and elegance that the label is known for.

The black leather of this back is soft and smooth, but durable enough that I’m not worried about it falling apart. The woven design is intricate and fascinating, a real feat of craftsmanship, and it looks nothing like the crafty woven bags I’m used to.

The shape of this Veneta bag is pretty extraordinary. The malleability of the woven leather material has been molded into a sculptural shoulder bag design. It’s also such a versatile shape and style that it could easily work for day or evening, and the size is a nice, ladylike, easy-to-handle medium.

I really want to praise Bottega for not interfering with the clean design of the Veneta. The only embellishment it really needs is its fabulous material, and that’s all that it’s got. Adding anything else would have made it look fussy.

At $1,995, the Veneta is definitely in the investment bag category. But as far as investment bags go, it’s a pretty safe bet. Even worn in, it will look fabulous, and its timeless chic will stay fashionable for generations.

Prepare to shine carrying the Balmain Night Pearl clutch, if you can afford it.

There’s no way around it; this is one expensive little number. Unless your social calendar is full of black tie galas, you’re going to struggle to justify that whopping $2120 price tag. But if you can spare the cash, I can’t imagine being disappointed by this pretty purse.

Balmain has created a real beauty here. Its black leather body is wrapped with silver chain and thin black leather cords. These leather straps are then dotted with silver heart and flower charms. A glittering diamante in the center of each accent brings the sparkle you look for in the evening. Up close, these playful charms look a little childish, but viewed from a distance the effect is breathtakingly whimsical.

This is really a purse that’s all about the looks. Its interior is luxurious lined with satin, but not as well appointed as we might like. The slit pocket does little to keep us organized, although this purse doesn’t hold so much that that will be a struggle. Practicality hasn’t been completely abandoned though; there is a chain strap in that same snappy silver.

This Night Pearl clutch is glamorous and just a little bit edgy, the kind of purse I can imagine Rihanna carrying with a body hugging little black dress and caged pair of platform shoes. As I don’t have nearly the nest egg of the Barbados beauty though, I’ll just have to dream about owning it!
