When it comes to handbags that cost under $50, you don’t often get a whole lot of quality design. However, I think that the Cosmopolitan is set to change all that, with its modern Eames-esque looks and surprising style.

So, what is special about this clutch? Well, the color for a start, a cool metallic gray/silver that manages to look slightly space age. Add the modern shape, clean and simple, and suddenly this looks like something out of a 1970s imagining of how the fashion world would look today. Only the fact it is made from straw breaks us out of the fantasy; I doubt that was what our parents had envisaged!

That straw does mean we will have to treat this Big Buddha handbag carefully. No rough and tumble for this little purse! Indeed, since the price means we can’t expect high-end luxury workmanship, we probably ought to be as gentle as possible, so as prevent it getting damaged. Still, for the great looks and the equally great price, this seems a fair deal!

Bally bags are luxurious and beautiful, without a doubt. However, the label don’t often branch out from the timeless black and brown leathers that allow its bags to last for years as a true investment piece. This is why it is so refreshing to see this cool gray color break up the monotone.

I like the shape of this bag. Sure, similar designs are available for far cheaper than the famous Bally price tag of $1,095. Sure, it isn’t really revolutionary. However, if you are buying a Bally handbag it is likely you aren’t buying it purely based on how unique it is, but mainly because of the name. If that is the case, then this will meet all your luxury brand name requirements, whilst looking pretty and fashionable at the same time.

Of course, the materials on the Caryne tote are pretty spectacular. You wouldn’t expect any less for a handbag of this caliber. The softest, supplest leather combines with a sexy red wine interior, and some cute vintage style hardware. You do get a well-made and delectable handbag, and because of this it should stay in top condition for a long time. At least it is an actual investment, although I sense some stocks and shares may be more sensible.

Expensive, granted. But if you can’t resist the urge to spend your hard earned cash on a Bally, then you could do worse!

We can always count on Bodhi to deliver an accessory that will turn heads. This Oval Box Handbag is another example of the brand’s commitment to original style.

There’s something decidedly retro about this structured handbag. The unique oval shape is made from classic quilted leather. Big Buddha keeps it simple with this restrained Allie hobo.

The world of hobo handbags is overrun with purses covered in fringe and embellished with tassels. That makes the clean, smooth lines of the Allie come as somewhat of a breakthrough. Big Buddha is careful that simple doesn’t mean boring though. The pinked and perforated trim brings just a hint of retro without interrupting the purse’s sophisticated good looks.

This is somewhat like Mary Poppins’ bag. It’s enormous, yet no matter how much you pack inside it never seems to appear bulky. I’m not quite sure how Big Buddha does it, but I’m glad that it does! It’s another miracle that the bag never seems to feel really heavy, even when filled to the brim. Perhaps Big Buddha’s had its hands on some of Mary Poppins’ magic after all!

Big Buddha doesn’t offer us real leather here, but the synthetic does keep this large and practical purse down to an affordable $80. I love the look of this springtime green, but if it’s not for you consider the girly fuchsia pink shade or classic black.

While the Marc by Marc Jacobs line is always hip and fresh, the Marc Jacobs collection is always ladylike and chic. Jacobs has, in the past few decades, literally redefined American fashion. The understated sophistication of this Camille tote shows Jacobs at his best.

The keys to the Camille are in the details. The curved handlestraps and front padlock are delightful and classic. The only problem I see is in constantly having to open that front flap to get into the main compartment. The solution is to never keep it actually locked.

We have already seen an Art Nouveau bag from Whiting & Davis, in the form of their large and sumptuous hobo. Now, however, they bring this colorful design to a much more evening appropriate purse.

The colors aren’t perhaps what you would obviously expect in an Art Nouveau clutch. The images are, sure, with their curls and angles, but the colors make this very different to the typical palette of greens, blacks and silvers. The mustard isn’t particularly to my taste, but others may disagree, and I suppose it does tie the whole thing together with that shiny gold chain handle. The metal mesh, of course, is much more of that era, and this is probably what manages to make this wristlet look so vintage and suitable.

As for the purse itself, this is surprisingly large for a wristlet. It even has a interior zipped pocket, which hands down beats those useless slip pockets most designers offer. This means you do get more practicality, although I don’t see what has been gained by adding only a wrist strap instead of a shoulder strap.

This is an interesting and pretty bag, which will be likely to stand out from the crowd.
