Bally shows it does sleek and chic like few other handbag designers with this Milip Hobo.

The clean lines and classic looks of the Milip are what drew me in. I began to imagine pairing the brown moleskin toned calfskin leather purse with all of my favorite outfits. But there’s something about the Milip that’s put me off.

It’s not the $950 price tag, although that’s more than I’d pay for a bag I didn’t consider to be perfect. No, it’s that hook accent which hangs from the top flap. It’s all a matter of personal taste of course, but I think the metal hook with its military inspired medallion simply clutters this elegant design. I expect just as many fashionistas to say that it brings individuality to this fairly traditionally styled bag though. What a shame Bally didn’t make it detachable to suit all our tastes!

The interior does help to bring me back on side though, with its ample dimensions and durable, leather trimmed pockets. It doesn’t offer much more than many hobo bags, but it’s the attention to detail that makes using the Milip feel like a luxurious experience. I’m also a fan of the long handle, which stylishly flares out at the ends.

I’m just not sure it’s enough to make me overlook that busy hook accent, especially at this price point.

The rumor mill is buzzing with word that Tamara Mellon is set to sell her famous Jimmy Choo label. Sources suggest that Mellon could earn £100 million if she parts with the iconic fashion house.

If the rumors are true, I can’t help wondering what will happen next. As chief executive officer, Mellon has seen Jimmy Choo grow to become a favorite amongst the fashion elite, with Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman, and Gwyneth Paltrow amongst its celebrity fans. She’s certainly driven this success, introducing handbags to the collection and forging a working partnership with Hunter boots. The rain boots which came from this collaboration attracted pre-orders of around £1 million, despite their sizable £235 price tag.

So what will become of Jimmy Choo, and indeed what will become of Mellon herself? Some suggest she may be lured by another fashion house, while others theorize she’ll simply become a full-time mom to her seven-year-old daughter Araminta. Goodness knows she’s earned some down time!

I’m telling y’all, gray is the new nude, which was the new black last season. Seriously, two out of two of the bags I’ve written about today are gray, and they weren’t the only bags I had to choose from either. I am loving this new color trend, and I especially love Stella McCartney’s sporty, minimal interpretation of it on this messenger bag.

The quilted gray jersey is super soft, and the quilting makes it look modern and chic. Plus, since the entire bag is made of cotton and nylon, I bet you could throw it right in the washer, although I guess a lot of elitist fashionistas would frown upon doing so.

The gray jersey gives it a definitively athletic look, but the messenger bag shape is part office, part school. I’m not really sure how it would go over in an your average office, but it would definitely work as a very chic school bag or a very casual everyday bag.

The price is right at $220. I’m not always a fan of Stella McCartney’s pieces, but this one is a winner all around in my book.

One of the things that I love about Marc Jacobs is that his version of hip isn’t too cool for school. In other words, he isn’t pretentious about his hipness. Even if you aren’t particularly cool, you will probably still find something to love about this Francesca leather tote.

Gray is the new nude, or at least that’s what I’m thinking. Nude is great and all, but if you happen to be a bit tomboyish, you might want some other alternative to black. This soft gray fits the bill perfectly. And the smooth leather has a nice diffused shine on it that makes it look expensive, but not too expensive.

The shape of the Francesca is relatively amorphous. It has the cut of a tote, but the heart of a hobo, and it’s super slouchiness makes it perfect for all this season’s rock star chic styles. It has a cool, casual vibe, but with a lot of little details that belie its quality, like the triangular leather reinforcements on the handles.

I wish this bag were slightly less expensive. At $530, it’s just a little too pricey for most of the cool kids I know.

Baggallini strives to deliver the only bag that you’ll ever need with the Only Bagg. Whether they succeed though is up to you.

Personally I prefer a few more stylish options in my arsenal; a teeny tiny evening clutch, a luxury leather bag for posh meals out, and a small cross-body purse for days on the go amongst them. But when it comes to satisfying our everyday needs, the Only Bagg is up to the challenge.

It’s generously sized but packed with organizational features so the dimensions never seem unmanageable. The zippered main compartment has three large zippered pockets, a multifunctional slip for your technology, pen and lipstick holders, a fob for your keys, and an attached zippered wallet. On either side of this central section there is another large pocket, one of which includes a mesh bottle holder. You’d never guess there are so many slots and sections from looking at the clean exterior!

What we can see from the exterior is the detachable cell phone case, which you can keep attached to the handle or stashed away inside. Everything about the design of this bag is really about practicality. The only hint of real personality is the colors; you can choose from 11 different shades from the conservative to the unexpected.

There are definitely more stylish looking bags at the $74.95 price point, but few have the functional features Baggallini delivers here.

Edgy handbag designer Alexander Wang doesn’t typically produce the glossy advertisements of many of the big fashion houses, but next season he’s stepping up his game. The Californian based designer has signed up some big talent for his next marketing campaigns.

Lenny Kravitz’ daughter Zoe will front the print ads for Alexander’s more affordable T line. He’s also enlisted the talents of Australian model Abbey Lee for a video to market his signature collection. British fashion photographer Craig McDean will collaborate with Wang on the short film, which sees Abbey Lee thrust into a high powered world reminiscent of Wall Street.

“It’s abstracted,” Wang told Women’s Wear Daily. “Abbey’s not walking down Wall Street past buildings, but there’s wind and newspapers flying all over the place. It’s very moody and seductive — like looking at a perfume ad where you feel for the girl a lot more. Rather than saying, ‘Here’s the product,’ this is more about expressing ourselves.“

In the same interview he also hinted that a signature fragrance may be in the works.

“I’m thinking and definitely putting together ideas,” he shared. “TBC, to be confirmed.“

This metal purse is, undeniably, gorgeous. It features a solid metal frame decorated all over with intricate patterns of flower and leaves. Of course, the intricate workmanship does go some way to justifying the $278.99 price tag, especially when you consider that the designer is small enough to mean you should be the only person wearing the creation!

The Kanok Elegance purse is slightly impractical though. You don’t want to dent or damage it, after all, and the presence of silver in the metal means it will probably need cleaning. However, it is saved by the spacious interior, and the fact that the designer has given you a long strap. Much appreciated!

This is an unusual metal purse, and will dress up almost any outfit. Wear it with pride!

You won’t get one for anywhere near a bargain price – but if you want a snakeskin bag with real luxury credentials then the exotic Bally Mae satchel will be one of the most impressive choices.

This is one of the first handbags I have seen in a while that actually uses snakeskin, rather than a somewhat tacky snakeskin print. Of course, you are paying $3,195 for the privilege, but even some luxury brands tend to chicken out of using a sleek sexy skin like this. Of course, as with all exotic skins, we need to ensure that they are ethically sourced, and preferably that the skin comes from animals also used for meat, but I shall leave this investigation up to you.

As for the satchel itself, it showcases Bally’s ability to create artistic handbags that are deceptively simple. The skin does all the talking, with the help of some neatly coordinating hardware and a slouchy, pattern-enhancing, shape. If the little handles were the only carrying option I would be less than impressed, but thankfully there is a shoulder strap option too. I do wish the handles were a bit longer though!
