I have always said that I have a love/hate relationship to Judith Leiber, but this is one bag that I love without almost any reservations. I’m not even that overwhelmed by the price, which is affordable in a relative way.

I’ve never seen Leiber work in satin before, but she has a real knack with the material. She’s used it in such a way that it shows off the sheen of the material and allows the rhinestone detail to be used in a novel way. The shimmering white jewels stand out beautifully against the black satin backdrop. The fabric has been folded over on the edges and absolutely covered in sparkling crystals, which gives the clutch a very elegant contrast.

The shape of the bag is that of the classic rectangular clutch, but the geometric rhinestone detail adds an origami-esque element. This clutch has a lot of old Hollywood glamour that still comes off as modern. It’s basically made for the red carpet, except the price, which at $1,070, is the least expensive Leiber bag I have ever come across.

Mm, mint green and chocolate brown. It’s a combination that makes me want to eat a box of After Eights, and which also reminds me of Smegs, and Cath Kidson, and other such retro beauties.

As you can tell, I love this tote’s coloring. It may be hard to coordinate with outfits, but I don’t care! Simply give me a 50s swing skirt and cute parasol, and I will be in my element! Equally I love the name of the designer; it sounds like a 1950s pen name, and I am trying to prevent this influencing my rose tinted view of the canvas tote itself.

However, there isn’t much negative to say. The cute bow detail adds another dimension of adorability to this bag, and the polka dots will never go out of fashion. It is also roomy and spacious, and I can’t even complain at the $69.95 price tag.

OK, so it is just another tote, and not a particularly remarkable one at that. However, if you are on the hunt for something cute and retro, then I think it hits the mark!

There’s a space in every wardrobe for a classic exotic handbag, but unfortunately there’s not always the space in our budgets for such an extravagance. Jessica Simpson offers us the next best thing with this Vapor tote.

One look at the price tag should probably tip you off; this isn’t an authentic crocodile bag. In fact, it’s not even a genuine leather bag. But the croc-embossed synthetic does a remarkable impersonation of the prized skin. The scales are beautifully rendered in soft black or brown leatherette.

This exotic texture really shines on this simply shaped tote. Its silhouette is one that we’ve seen so many times before, but that only ensures we’re not distracted by any extra details. There are just a handful of studs near the handles and reinforced corners, which are more functional additions than aesthetic accents.

A sunken zip ensures we get the security we crave without interrupting the Vapor’s clean lines. It opens to reveal an interior which is both roomy and practical, with synthetic trimmed zip and slip pockets. The cotton lining is a bit busy with its colored plaid and stars, but if the worst thing you can say about a tote is that you don’t like its lining than it’s not a bad bag.

If you can afford a genuine crocodile tote, this affordable alternative probably won’t have a lot of appeal. But if you’re on a much tighter budget, you’ll happily pay $128 for this snappy purse.

Who says you need to leave the waves behind now the weather’s cooled? Jessica Jensen allows us to hang on to summer with this fall-ready Wave Tote.

The curved stitching recalls the big swell of Malibu, but it’s abstract enough that it never appears kitschy. The lush Italian leather and sedate color combinations help to bring it into this season; choose from black and storm gray or earth brown and lilac.

The Wave tote is traditionally shaped, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. While it doesn’t push the envelope, it does allow for maximum storage space. The canvas lined interior is packed with pockets, which are all leather trimmed for extra strength. I only wish there was a clasp to keep our items secure, but at least with the platform base we don’t have to worry about them tumbling out once we set the bag down. Just watch out for pick pockets!

Consider its simple, open top design this Jessica Jensen tote seems a little pricey at almost $1000, but its dramatic wave texture and elegant craftsmanship does help us justify the expense.

You heard it first here, people, navy blue is the new black. This is not entirely new news, of course, but there are a lot of fabulous new navy bags out there making a splash. I am loving this braid-embellished navy blue hobo by Bottega Veneta.

The color is rich and luxurious, and even though you’re not supposed to wear navy with black, this color is just light enough that not only will you be able to get away with it, but you’ll look totally fabulous doing it. The ultra soft leather is the perfect balance of sleek and slouchy to pull off this semi-structure hobo style.

The hobo shape is pretty traditional, but the braided inseaming gives it both textural complexity and also a bit more structure than your average ultra-slouchy bohemian hobo. The braided detail on the edges of the bag and on the handles will protect the leather from wear, and it also looks amazing.

This is a perfectly-hued, well-designed hobo that will look amazing with your favorite fall styles. At $1,400, it’s too rich for my blood, but I’d be willing to take a transfusion.

Yesterday, I found myself a little depressed about the terrible Marc Jacobs sequined bag I reviewed. It’s hard when a designer that you rely on to be amazing lets you down. I feel much better today, and it’s due in no small part to the casual fabulousness of this striped leather bag.

The colorful woven fabric material that makes up this bag is what initially won me over. I love the rich, but subtly muted color palette. The woven pattern gives it a bohemian look which contrasts with the overall military-inspired vibe of the bag.

This is a small, practically-shaped bag that has a lot of utilitarian features. The long, canvas shoulder strap is totally adjustable, so you can shorten it to carry over your shoulder and lengthen it to wear it cross body. The front flap secures with a fabulous brown leather strap and gold buckle that opens onto the frill-free interior. Usually I would complain about the bag’s lack of internal organizing pockets, but on a purse this small, pockets would just take up space.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Marc Jacobs bag this reasonably-priced. At only $260, they’re practically giving it away! And I don’t mind if I do take one.

This is a bit of a break from the norm for luxury brand Lodis. Normally its handbags are sleek and glossy, whereas the Carnival Cafe clutch is much more fun!

Don’t get me wrong, I love Lodis bags. However, it is nice to see some texture in that crocodile print pattern, and I love the way it maximizes the reflective qualities of the bright emerald metallic leather. This is like Lodis on acid, and as long as the whole brand doesn’t go down this route, I think it could be quite enjoyable!

As for the bag itself, it is a versatile little thing. The size means that as a clutch you will be limited, but thankfully it can also double up as something else. A coin purse, for example, or a pouch for your cell phone. There are plenty of things that a luxury leather purse like this could be used for, so you shouldn’t find it useless.

Of course, it had better be useful. After all, Lodis is charging $140 for it, and whilst the Carnival clutch is pretty, that is still pretty pricey for something so small. However, it is great fun, so I can forgive it!
