Posted on: Sep 14

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market is making it simpler to ditch plastic grocery bags with its reusable tote giveaway.

To grab one of the free shoppers, just spend $20 or more at a Fresh & Easy store or print out the free coupon from the company’s Facebook page.

We’ve always believed the best option is a reusable bag and we’re excited to see more and more customers use them,” said Roberto Munoz, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Affairs Director. “We’re working to raise awareness and get as many bags in customers’ hands as possible through contests, in-store promotions and giveaways.

Since opening its first store in late 2007, Fresh & Easy has given away more than 600, 000 reusable bags. The measures are part of the chain’s commitment to environmentally friendly practices. The stores typically use 30% less energy than their competitors, thanks to LED lighting, high-tech refrigeration and freezer units, and recycling programs.

If you need more bags to hold your shopping, you can pick them up at Fresh & Easy from 99c. They might not be the most stylish shoppers around, but they definitely do the job!

Kate Spade Book of the Month Clutch | Retro Novel Fabric Box Purse

Posted on: Sep 14

For the most part, we can rely on Kate Spade for classic retro accessories with just a hint of spice. But every now and then she abandons tradition and creates something fun and frivolous like this Book of the Month clutch.

This is a clutch is a great choice for bookworms, with its design which actually looks like a novel. We can choose between literary classics Great Expectations and The Importance of Being Earnest, although their design is anything but traditional. Kate Spade gives these novels her signature retro flair. I wonder what Dickens would think?

The unique exterior hides a slender but functional interior. The structured design means you may need to pare back your essentials, but it should hold the basics. Some girls may be disappointed by the lack of shoulder strap, but I think one would have ruined the illusion. Whoever heard of a book worn over your shoulder after all!

At $325, this is one expensive trompe l’oiel but Kate Spade creates the illusion so well that it might be worth the investment.

  • Silk failed lining
  • Clasp closure
  • Measures 9 x 6 x 1.25 inches

Reed Krakoff Boxer II Grain Leather Tote | Classy Strappy Oversized Gray Leather Tote

Posted on: Sep 13

Reed Krakoff’s new eponymous line is made to please a wide audience. As the former head of Coach, he isn’t exactly a newcomer to the world of handbags. Krakoff knows what women want and delivers exactly that: sharply chic, practical bags that don’t look dated after a season or two. The Boxer II is exactly that.

The seal gray color of this leather is rich and enticing. With Krakoff, subtle textural nuances are crucial. This leather has a softly pebbled finish that gives a slightly grainy quality to an otherwise super classic look. In the same vein, while the bag has an overall tailored look, small pleats in the corner soften it up a bit.

The shape of the Boxer II is very similar to that of the Birkin, a simple, boxy tote. In fact, the horizontal front strap detail is also reminiscent of Hermes’ famous bag. This might explain, in part, the Boxer II’s immediate success, as it has sold out almost everywhere.

But it isn’t just a knockoff. The Boxer has an appeal that’s all its own. The vertical front straps covering the triangular-edged flap front are a unique design detail, as is the loopy handle. Frankly, I don’t care much for the handle – it looks a little offhand for such an elegant bag – but I am sure that it will find its fans.

  • 18″ x 13″ x 8″ size
  • 7″ strap drop

Reed Krakoff Laced Cadet Leather Shoulder Bag | Slouchy Black Leather Minimalist Bag By Hot New Designer

Posted on: Sep 13

If Reed Krakoff’s name is familiar, but you can’t quite place it, it’s because he’s been behind the scenes for a while. Okay, well, not exactly behind the scenes, as he was the creative director at Coach that basically rescued the company and made it into the big name brand it is today. The clean, versatile design of this Laced Cadet bag shows that he can make great designs all by himself, and at a much higher quality than his former employer ever used.

Because this bag is so minimal, it’s important to look really closely at the details, like the quality of the texture and the intricate seam detail. The black pebbled leather is sumptuous and soft. It has a barely textured look and feel that is unique. The whipstitching on the top leather handle is thicker than you usually see, which makes the weaving look almost like studding. This is a slightly edgy detail on an otherwise very pared down bag.

The shape is ideal, as far as I’m concerned. It has a slouchy attitude, but a flat bottom and sides that gives it the tiniest bit of structure. The top zipper opens onto an ample interior that has no organizational divisions save a small zipper pocket. Ordinarily, I might not like such a large bag to be so unstructured on the interior, but in this shape, I think it makes sense. There’s plenty of room to shove all your office essentials inside, if you’d like, or a whole weekend’s worth of clothes.

At $990, the Laced Cadet is well worth the price. Its timeless appeal, minimal look, and versatility ensure that you’ll love it for years to come.

  • 21″ strap drop

Charles David Zelda Hobo | On Trend Leopard Print Handbag

Posted on: Sep 13

Be bang on trend this season with Charles David’s Zelda hobo.

You probably know this already, but underwear and outerwear looks set to continue as a theme into the winter months. Accompanying the lace, satin and leather are some exotic and highly sexy animal prints, such as this racy leopard print. Whilst leopard print clothes run the risk of looking a little raunchy, a bag like this Zelda purse is a great way to get a little animalistic.

Whilst the bag is on trend, I am not sure if the leather is. After all, black is the color dominating the catwalks, although I accept that these brown and red shades would work well with the camel trousers and coats that have also been all over the designer labels. It does, I suppose, make it more versatile.

Pricewise, the $100 tag is surprisingly reasonable. After all, you get a haircalf body and real leather trim, and to get quality ingredients for a normal price is quite rare. It endears this to me even more. Me likey!

  • Also available in a berry shade
  • Contrasting blue lining
  • Leather and haircalf exterior
  • Signature metal tag

Kate Spade Bedford Street Shoulder Bag | Noel Lori Quilted Hobo

Posted on: Sep 13

Quilting always runs the risk of looking fuddy duddy and old fashioned. However, in the Bedford Street Noel collection Kate Spade has managed to update the look.

The modern style features different shapes which make the soft and luxurious looking quilting, mainly circles and funny curved squares (look at the picture, you’ll see what I mean). This, in combination with the sleek glossy leather that the brand is well known for, means that you have a handbag that is undoubtedly mature, yet at the same time not even vaguely outdated.

Of course, being modern doesn’t mean that it isn’t traditional. Vintage style designs are Kate Spade’s strongest point, after all. Consequently the classic brown leather corners and tassels give this a hint of the formal designs and shapes of yesteryear.

This isn’t a remarkable bag, but it is one of those purses that lends itself to everyday use and everyday wear. You even have a hint of the countryside thanks to the green lining, meaning that you can feel all posh and privileged! It is perhaps a little stuffy for me, but it really fits this winter’s fashion trends.

  • Green signature lining
  • Quilted leather exterior
  • Multiple interior pockets
  • 14-karat light gold plated hardware

Kara Ross Nox Koi Fish Clutch | Painted Desert Matte Python Purse with Topaz Clasp

Posted on: Sep 13

Kara Ross has always impressed me with her sophisticated clutches carefully crafted from luxurious exotics. But sadly this Oriental twist on her popular Nox clutch has left me cold.

All of the right elements are there. The nude Painted Desert python is right on trend, a shade that’s feminine without being fussy and incredibly wearable. That smoky gray topaz adorning the front flap is a gorgeous contrast to the pale snakeskin. And then there is the shiny, sophisticated gold hardware to pull it all together.

But then Kara Ross goes and spoils it all with the koi fish. This bright red and orange Asian motif only cheapens the clutch, reminding me more of an Ed Hardy accessory than any luxury purse.

Yet we still see Kara Ross charging those luxury prices. In this case, it’s $1785. Strip away the fish and I might consider it, but right now this is a definite miss.

  • Concealed magnetic closure

Lollington offers an alternative to masculine laptop cases with its fun and feminine range of protective sleeves.

Rather than boring plain black and brown fabrics we see cases embellished with pink elephants, rainbow colored migrating birds, and swimming mermaids.

The cases might look playful, but inside they’re all business. Each one is padded with half an inch of high-density closed-cell foam to protect your precious technology. They’re handcrafted with heavy-duty cotton duck cloth, a material which like the bird which shares its name is water resistant.

PC users are out of luck, as the Lollington cases are made exclusively for Mac products. However, Mac lovers will be happy with the range they’re offered. The cases are available in a variety of sizes for the 13-inch Macbook or Macbook Pro, the 15-inch Macbook Pro, the 17-inch Macbook Pro, and the Macbook Air.

Juicy Couture Tomboy Caroline Satchel | Pink Leather 1970s Cross-Body Handbag

Posted on: Sep 13

I’ve been one of Juicy Couture’s harshest critics, but even I can admit when the brand does something right. And with the Tomboy Caroline satchel, the label has done several things right. While the name might suggest otherwise, this is a bag which delivers femininity with style.

Nothing in pink could ever be accused of being tomboyish, but this gentle shade called Ballet Dancer isn’t as garish or sugary as most of the pink Juicy bags I’ve seen. It’s the sort of shade women could happily wear to the office without being thought of as a Barbie doll, and it might even win over some of the girls who’d never dreamed of carrying pink before!

Perhaps part of its success is that Juicy Couture doesn’t cover this bag in other fussy feminine details. The styling is very practical and even masculine with bold hardware and clean lines, so it gets away with the girly color choice. And if it’s still too girlish for you, you could always opt for the gray-brown dust or black shades.

That practical appearance is matched by functional design. It’s just the right size for everyday use, and its leather trimmed pockets should stand up to that kind of day-to-day punishment. I’ve never been a fan of short handles, which are often awkward to carry once the bag is full, but I can forgive it as we get a cross-body strap too.

At $348 this is one of Juicy Couture’s most expensive handbags, but it’s also much more stylish and timeless than the label’s usual fare.

More Features of This Juicy Couture Pink Leather Satchel

  • Made of sheep leather trimmed with lambskin
  • Lined with logo print fabric
  • A handle with a 2.5 inch drop
  • Measures 10.5 x 13.5 x 6 inches
  • Made in China

The Gap Collaborates with 10 Corso Como | American Brand Marks Italian Expansion with Limited Edition Totes & Apparel

Posted on: Sep 13

The Gap is celebrating its move into the Italian market by collaborating with local retailer 10 Corso Como. The team will launch a limited edition fashion line during Milan Fashion Week.

The Corso Como Gap range will feature men’s and women’s t-shirts and sweatshirts, and cotton tote bags. Tees and sweatshirts are Gap staples, but the totes are something new from the brand.

The collection features two different design themes. The first is the signature circles graphic that Corso Como is famous for. The second theme features art works from American artist Kris Ruhs chosen by Gap founder Carla Sozzani. The art theme may seem unexpected at first, but Kris Ruhs actually oversaw the creative direction of 10 Corso Como’s stores in Milan, Tokyo, and Seoul.

If you’ve got your heart set on owning one of these limited edition items, you may need to start saving for that Italian getaway. The collection will be available exclusively through 10 Corso Como Gap’s pop-up store in Milan from September 22.
