It is unusual to see the word “vintage” and the name LeSportsac in the same sentence. After all, LeSportsac product sporty handbags from nylon or polyester, and this isn’t something that usually fits neatly in to the vintage category.

So, flaws with the naming aside, what do we think of this little wristlet? Well, as a heart fanatic, I am a big fan of the pattern. The metallic gold against the matt black instantly makes it eye catching, and the scribbled effect really helps with the cuteness factor. In fact, despite the lightweight and practical materials, this almost looks like it could be an evening bag.

However, it doesn’t qute achieve this, thanks to the always sporty fabric choices. Synthetic is great if you need something waterproof or durable however, and if you are a girl who has an active lifestyle but who wants pretty belongings too, then why the hell shouldn’t you have access to a bag like this? Whilst it isn’t posh by any means, this laid back clutch still brings that sparkle to the mix.

Lulu Guinness is renowned for her cute and kitschy accessories, and they don’t get much cuter, or much kitschier, than this Doll Face cross body bag.

Yes, there may be something slightly creepy about carrying around what looks like a severed head, but I’m sure the emo kids will love this little face with her thick black mascara and tiny bow shaped mouth.

Even if it’s not to your tastes, it’s easy to appreciate Lulu Guinness’s handiwork here. Every part of the face is cut from leather, making this purse a kind of modern take on patchwork. It’s pretty small, as so many evening bags are, but its two separate zippered compartments make it very easy to organize. And that long cross-body strap is detachable, so you can convert the Doll Face to a clutch for a night out with the girls.

This quirky purse won’t appeal to everyone, but Lulu Guinness has never been a designer to cater for the masses. The $290 price tag seems a bit steep for something so small and strange, but if it’s won your heart you won’t find another cheaper!

This is a real boho bag, with its relaxed cotton-linen body and drawstring cinching in the top. Can’t you just imagine some Beatnik from San Francisco slinging this bag over his shoulder as he hitch-hiked around the country?

Well, perhaps you could if it wasn’t for that colorful flower. I suppose the metal accent does give the Drifter a certain girlish charm, but it doesn’t seem to fit with its roving spirit. Thankfully it’s easily detached though, so you can remove it from the Drifter and add it to your favorite boho dress!

While I’m finding fault, it’s also worth mentioning that skinny shoulder strap. While it should hold as it is leather, I can’t imagine it’ll feel too comfortable once the Drifter’s full of your worldly possessions.

At $79 it might be a bit rich for any real hobos, but it’s quite reasonable for any fashionistas who want to enjoy that authentic bohemian look.

Matthew Williamson gave us a sneak peek at his handbag line for Bulgari in August, and now he’s unveiled it in a breath-taking launch party.

The event saw a Milanese garden transformed into a colorful jungle befitting the range’s brightly hued bags.

“I wanted to create a particular kaleidoscope drawn from the rich Bulgari heritage in fine jewelry whilst also attaining a modern, contemporary feel,” Williamson told his guests.

The Italian made collection combines Williamson’s colorful and relaxed design aesthetic with Bulgari’s signature conservative style. Bulgari says the collection’s hexagonal motif is intended to echo “the dynamic heartbeat and architectural geometry of the modern metropolis.”

The hexagonal shapes are mirrored in the oversized jewel closures and gemstone textured calfskin. The inner linings are just as wild as the exteriors, with kaleidoscopic emerald palm, sapphire galaxy, and crystal butterfly prints.

Prices start from $550 for the wallets and top $2200 for the hobo bags. You’ll find these colorful designer creations at Bulgari stores around the world in January 2011.

I wonder whether swarthy actor Benicio del Toro inspired Luba J to create this satchel which shares his name. It definitely reminds me of the Puerto Rican honey with its large, imposing silhouette, and dark brooding good looks.

It might be a women’s satchel, but there’s very little that’s feminine about it. Pleating down the center and along the pockets helps to soften the deep forest green textured leather, but it’s still quite a masculine bag. That might disappoint girly girls, but I can imagine most guys happily carrying this purse if it gets too heavy for you!

And honestly, it might do just that. With so much space inside on out, it’s so tempting to cram items into every nook and cranny. If you do fill it up you’ll need to add the longer strap, as the handles are just a shade too short for over-the-shoulder carrying. I like the versatility the carrying options bring, although I have a hunch I’d rarely detach that longer shoulder strap.

At $768, the Benicio satchel is well priced for a Luba J handbag. We get a lot of bag and some serious quality for our dollar.

I am so crazy for Antik Batik’s eclectic, quirky designs. The line’s fanciful approach to accessories keeps me intrigued time after time. Even though the Dream isn’t my favorite of the bunch, it still has a fabulous look that I really admire.

The surface of the dream is composed of layered circular patches of olive green leather. The effect is something like scales or fur. It has a definite organic influence and a little bit of an avant garde impulse.

The simple rectangular shape of the Dream is meant to show off the texture of the leather, but it has hidden design features. For example, there’s a drawstring closure with a tassel fastening under the flap front. The drawstring peeks through subtly on the edges in a way that adds to the overall design, but it doesn’t look fussy in any way.

At $495, the Dream is well-priced for an edgy, high quality handbag, especially given its versatility, but it’s a little more expensive, it seems, than it should be, for a bag from a less established line.

The Marc Jacobs line is one of those rare beasts that manages to appeal to both sides of the preppie/hipster divide almost equally. This Parachute bag, however, is far from preppy, is is definitely not for women with a more reserved style sensibility.

Marc Jacobs calls the shiny glaze on the canvas material of the bag “olive”, but it’s really more of a tarnished bronze color. The ultra-shiny surface of the bag looks almost like patent leather, but is less sensitive to the elements than leather would be. The python-embossed brown leather trim makes for a great contrast with the glazed canvas, both in terms of color and texture.

The shape of the bag is utilitarian and military-inspired with a few feminine details thrown in. The practical shape gives way to a lot of gathering a pleating, which softens up the look and adds volume. The chain and leather strap is kind of a strange touch on an already pretty ostentatious bag, but it doesn’t look weirdly out of place or anything.

Truthfully, I can’t really decide whether I like this bag or not. I can tell you that I wouldn’t carry it, just because it definitely doesn’t go with my own personal style, but I can’t tell what I think of it for another woman. On the one hand, it is pretty freaking loud, but on the other, I really respect the in-your-face nature of its design.

I do like a good box clutch. There is something about a strong shape and unusual pattern than can make me feel more like a princess than any other bag could ever hope to. This Jessica McClintock plastic clutch is one example that manages to combine bold edgy style with a pearly dose of glamor.

Were this box clutch made from real mother of pearl, then we would be shelling out (excuse the pun) a lot of money. However, because the ingredients in this rectangular purse are man-made, we instead only have to pay $75. Even so, you still get style, thanks to the pearlescent swirling black and gray pattern sweeping across the glossy exterior. I love it, especially with the addition of the cutely shaped clasp.

Inside, I like this handbag even better. The chain handle is a little bit ugly, but it is always a matter of function over form. However, the cute tartan print and surprisingly roomy space more than make up for it. In fact, they make a pretty evening bag into something fun and cute.

I said I loved a good box clutch, and this Jessica McClintock creation has confirmed the fact!

Who says leopard print can’t be posh? This $950 tote from Bally just goes to show that there is a way to make this raunchy animal print classy.

How has the label done it? By changing the traditional yet difficult to wear shades into tones of gray. In this soft yet still exotic print, the handbag becomes much more versatile, and somewhat justifies the expensive price tag, in that at least you can use it for lots of different things. So as to ensure that the muted print isn’t under-dramatic, they tszuj it up with the addition of a hair calf texture, once again delivering bang for your buck.

Despite the advantages of the spacious Macy tote, the price would still hold me back. After all, it is still just a handbag at the end of the day. Plus, the leopard print seems a little risky, as it has a tendency to go in and out of fashion on a regular basis.

Stylish and strangely sophisticated, this pricey Bally tote may just bring out the animal in you!
